Chapter 144 Blooming Delicate Flowers
"Yep, that's right," the delivery guy said with a confident nod.
Margaret's eye twitched. Wow, had it really been half a month already?
She told the delivery guy she'd come to pick it up right away.
Mary flagged down a taxi and opened the door for Margaret, even putting her hand above Margaret's head to protect it. Once Margaret was in, Mary slid in next to her.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at Hughes Manor and Margaret had a small cardboard box in her hands.
She didn't open it right away; she figured she'd check it out when she got home.
On the way back, Margaret and Mary decided to walk.
They passed an old lady selling green plants. The sunlight made the plants look like they were covered in a golden glow.
One of the plants had a tiny, delicate flower blooming on it.
Seeing Margaret's interest, Mary bought it for her.
Margaret then wandered through the market. As she reached the entrance of a small shop, she heard a sharp voice, "Hello!"
They turned to see a gray parrot in a cage, staring right at Margaret and saying, "Hello! Take me home!"
The parrot's words were clear, and its voice was surprisingly pleasant.
Margaret was charmed and ended up spending two thousand dollars to bring it home.
Back at home, Mary moved the green plant to the balcony, watered it, and then headed to the kitchen to cook.
Margaret played with the parrot. It was pretty smart; once home, it got all aloof and wouldn't talk unless it got food.
After some time with the parrot, she picked up the delivery box from the coffee table.
She opened it carefully, and inside was a voice recorder.
Margaret was puzzled. Why would Ashley send her this?
Could there truly be some conspiracy behind Ashley's death?
She went to the master bedroom, closed the door, and turned on the voice recorder.
Then a voice crackled to life. She listened to it three times.
"Margaret, by the time you get this, I won't be around anymore. Don't be sad for me; I brought this on myself."
"Watch out for Sarah! She used my daughter to blackmail me into following you and then trying to kill you in Eldoria! But you were so kind, giving me the presidential suite, money, and even celebrating my birthday. Your kindness showed me there are still good people in the world."
"I couldn't hurt you, so I crashed through the Eldoria railing. I wanted to tell you Sarah was forcing me to kill you, but I was too scared. Mrs. Hughes, I'm sorry for what I did to your dad in the hospital. I hope you have a happy and healthy life."
Margaret stayed in the master bedroom for a long time. So, Ashley's death was tied to Sarah.
She knew Sarah's character was deplorable, but she never expected her to stoop so low!
What if Raymond found out?
Would he clear Ashley's name?
After lunch, Margaret drove to the Hughes Group.
The receptionist saw her and said with a blank look, "Mr. Howard is on a business trip."
"When will he be back?" Margaret asked, surprised.
The receptionist didn't even glance at her and replied, "If you don't know, how would I know?"
Margaret was speechless.
She was still Raymond's wife, and she didn't know his whereabouts. How would outsiders know?
She called Raymond on her phone, but the call was blocked.
Just as she didn't know what to do, the elevator door beside her opened.
Raymond, dressed in a dark suit, walked out of the elevator surrounded by people, heading in her direction!
Margaret, extremely angry, laughed and walked up to him as she said, "Raymond, I have something to tell you!"
He ignoredher completely, and walked past her.
"If you don't listen to me, I'll follow you until you do!" Margaret looked at his tall figure and said in a resolute tone.
As soon as she finished speaking, he stopped, whispered a few words to the senior staff beside him, and then the senior staff walked out of the Hughes Group's revolving glass door.
Margaret walked up to him and said with a mocking smile, "You're really good at making up lies just to avoid me, aren't you? Weren't you on a business trip? Why are you still here?"
"Knowing I don't want to see you, you still cling to me? Margaret, you're really pathetic." He curled his lips and spoke disdainfully.
Margaret's heart clenched. He seemed to be right.
She really was quite pathetic.
"I only have three minutes for you!" Raymond looked impatiently at his watch, urging her.
Margaret laughed at herself. They were clearly married, yet he only had three minutes for her!
How ironic!
"Raymond, do you really know Sarah? She has a bad character, do you know that?"
Raymond said, "One more minute!"
"Raymond, I'm not joking with you. Do you remember when I went to Ironwood Lane? Ashley committed suicide! Actually, Ashley didn't want to die; she was instructed to kill me. But she couldn't bring herself to do it, so she crashed the car into the bridge railing to commit suicide!"
"Are you saying that Sarah is the one behind all this?" Raymond squinted his eyes, scrutinizing Margaret.
Margaret nodded and said in a resolute tone, "Yes, it's really her!"
"Margaret, are you that bored? If you don't slander her, you feel uncomfortable?"
"I'm not slandering her! I'm telling the truth! I just found out, and I have evidence!" Margaret hurriedly handed him the voice recorder in her palm and said in anxiety, "This is the voice recorder Ashley sent me. Listen to it, and you'll know if I'm telling the truth!"
Raymond's cold eyes glanced at the voice recorder in her palm. He took it and smashed it hard on the ground.
With a crack, the voice recorder shattered into pieces!
"What are you doing? Raymond, what are you doing!" Margaret was shocked and hurried to pick up the voice recorder on the ground.
Raymond stomped on the voice recorder, grinding it continuously.
"Get your foot off!" Margaret tugged at his leg in dress pants.
However, he remained motionless.
Raymond squatted down, gripping her chin tightly as he said, "Do you think at this point, I would still believe your lies?"
She even faked illness, made counterfeit pills, and demanded huge benefits in exchange for giving birth to his child!
Last night, she told him to get out, not wanting to hear him speak!
Raymond sneered. He must have been too good to her, which is why she acted so recklessly!
"I'm not lying! Raymond, you made a judgment without even listening?" Margaret looked at him in shock.
They were clearly married, yet they doubted and suspected each other!
