Chapter 585 The First Time Staring at a Girl for So Long
Nia was starting to doubt if she was even their biological daughter. How else could her parents treat her this way, not caring about her well-being and only thinking about selling her for a good price?
Her heart ached, and tears welled up in her eyes.
She went to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked tight from the outside.
No matter what happened between her and Daniel tonight, as long as they were found in the same room tomorrow morning, alone together, there would be no way to explain it.
Nia wiped her tears with the back of her hand and walked over to Daniel.
He was lying on the bed, dressed in a high-quality business suit. His hair was messy, with soft bangs covering his forehead, but his features were still handsome.
He was clearly from a wealthy family. Immaculate, completely different from someone like her.
Nia was momentarily lost in thought, then reached out to shake Daniel's arm. "Hey, wake up."
He was in a deep sleep.
No matter what she did, he wouldn't wake up.
Of course, her mother had drugged him. How could he wake up so easily? If he did, all her mother's schemes would be a joke.
Nia sighed. What should she do?
She hurried to the window and tried to open it, but it was stuck.
The night wind, hot and stifling, blew against Nia's face, making her sweat even more.
From the next room, she heard a man coughing.
Nia's eyes widened as she looked at the narrow windowsill.
From the sound, she judged that the man who came with Daniel was in the next room.
She didn't know if the window next door was locked.
But she was sure that if she found Walter, she would have an ally.
Nia, a country girl born and raised, wasn't afraid of climbing trees or anything like that. She easily climbed onto the windowsill.
The windowsill was just wide enough for one foot.
She glanced down. Two stories high. If she fell, she wouldn't die, but she'd be seriously injured.
Nia's heart pounded as she carefully balanced on the edge, her hands gripping the rough, scratchy wall.
Finally, she reached the window of the next room.
She tried to open it, but it was locked.
Walter had been asleep but was awakened by the sound of knocking on the window.
He always slept in his shirt when he was away from home, never undressing.
Hearing the noise, he sat up, put on his shoes, and went to the window.
He was startled by what he saw.
In the moonlight, he saw a girl in a cream-colored dress standing by his window, knocking frantically.
He recognized her immediately. He was both surprised by her courage and shocked by her reckless determination.
If it weren't for the fact that he and Daniel were staying here, he wouldn't have wanted to get involved, fearing she'd blame him if she fell.
Walter opened the window with a cold expression.
She tried to jump into the room but lost her footing and almost fell.
Luckily, she quickly grabbed onto Walter's neck, and he helped her inside.
But within a second, he pushed her away, one hand in his pocket, smirking. "So, you've decided to change your target?"
Earlier that night, she had seemed so righteous and proud. It hadn't been long, and now she was climbing through his window.
Walter thought this family was too cunning. He didn't plan on going back to sleep. He took out a cigarette and lit it in front of her.
He looked quite handsome smoking.
But Nia didn't have time to notice. She urgently said, "My mom drugged that man. She's forcing me to spend the night with him. The door is locked. I had no choice but to come and tell you. Please, help me save him."
"Your mother is something else," Walter said, surprised, then added, "Alright, how about this? I'll sneak into my mom's room and steal the key. You carry him out of here. If we leave now, they won't catch us."
Walter realized she genuinely wanted to help.
As she was about to steal the key, he couldn't help but ask, "Can you do it alone?"
"Don't worry, they're both asleep. It's not my first time. I'll be fine," Nia said with a bright smile, though her eyes were sad.
He was momentarily lost in thought.
Ten minutes later.
Nia had the key to Daniel's room and unlocked the door.
Walter followed her inside, carrying the unconscious Daniel out.
Nia held a flashlight, lighting their way.
She walked ahead, the winding path illuminated by the beam.
Walter, carrying Daniel, followed her, watching her legs move under her dress.
He studied her silhouette.
The cream-colored dress swayed as she walked.
She didn't dress up much, but if she did, she wouldn't be any less attractive than the women in Silverbrook.
Walter rarely stared at a girl like this, even just her back. He'd been single for so long, he had little interest in women.
It wasn't that he wasn't pursued. As Daniel's assistant, he held a high position. It was impossible not to be chased.
He was not only an assistant but also had a more hidden identity.
Not finding anyone he liked, he remained single for thirty years.
His family urged him to date and have children, but he didn't care.
When they reached the car.
Nia opened the back door, and Walter carefully placed Daniel inside.
"Don't come back here. The person you're looking for isn't here," Nia said, holding the flashlight and tucking her short hair behind her ear. "Safe travels, drive carefully."
She turned to leave.
"Wait!" Walter called out.
She turned back. "What's wrong?"
"Can you drive?" he asked, looking at her.
She thought for a moment and nodded. "A little."
"Then come with us. It's a two-day drive to our destination. I don't know when he'll wake up. Driving alone, I might get tired and crash," Walter said seriously. "If you stay, your parents will give you trouble when they find out we left. Coming with us is a win-win."
