Chapter 437 Raymond Turns White Overnight

Two days later.

It was Margaret's funeral.

It was grand.

The arrangements, the flowers, the photo of Margaret—all in her favorite color, pink.

People came and went, paying their respects.

Most of them were there because of Raymond; they had no real connection to Margaret.

When they saw Raymond's hair had turned white overnight, they were stunned.

How deep must his love and grief for his late wife be to turn his hair white in a single night?

Guests placed flowers in front of the photo, shaking their heads and sighing, "What a pity for these lovers, separated by life and death."

Daniel arrived, holding a bouquet of daisies. He saw Raymond kneeling with his back to him.

When Daniel noticed Raymond's white hair, he was taken aback. "Are you okay?"

Raymond forced a smile. He was far from okay.

Margaret was gone. How could he be okay?

Margaret was his whole world.

"Mr. Taylor, there's no need to worry," Raymond said in a low voice.

Daniel placed the daisies next to the photo.

He glanced at the pink decorations and frowned slightly.

"She loved pink. It was her wish."

When Daniel heard this, his frown relaxed a bit. He then turned his gaze to Raymond. "What are your plans for Margaret's funeral?"

"I thought about reuniting her with her family, burying her next to her parents. But then I realized how cold and dark it is underground. She would be scared. Keeping her with me, as my companion, gives me something to hold onto."

"Once someone is gone, the arrangements don't matter as much."

"I just wonder if she'll blame me for making the decision and not letting her rest in peace."

Daniel squinted. "If you need help, just let me know."

"Mr. Taylor, I thought you didn't want to be friends with me?" Raymond said with a pained smile.

Daniel sneered. "Just being polite because I feel sorry for you."

Raymond wasn't angry. Thinking about his own limited time, he looked at Daniel and pleaded, "If I die one day, please bury my ashes with Margaret's."

"You should ask Alvin for that," Daniel scoffed, bowed to Margaret's photo, paid his respects, and left.

His assistant called. "Mr. Taylor, as per your instructions, to avoid suspicion from Mr. Cade Taylor and Mr. Howard, I've booked your flight to Aquilonia. It departs in an hour. Please keep track of the time."

"What's the situation there?" Daniel asked, opening the car door and sitting in the driver's seat.

He fastened his seatbelt and listened to the assistant's report. "Margaret was taken into the emergency room half an hour ago. If you hurry, she'll be out of surgery by the time you arrive."

"I understand." Daniel hung up, started the car, and drove to the airport.

At the funeral, Alvin arrived with his wife.

He was able to marry his wife thanks to Margaret's help.

Alvin's wife, upon learning of Margaret's death, cried until her eyes were red and insisted on bringing their child to pay respects.

They placed flowers and observed a moment of silence.

Hubert also arrived, no longer in uniform.

He wore a fitting black suit and respectfully approached Raymond. Seeing Raymond's white hair, he was surprised. "Mr. Howard, are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Raymond said, kneeling, his face looking grim.

Hubert said, "Mrs. Howard was kind to me. She was a good person. It's tragic what happened. I came to pay my final respects. I hope Mrs. Howard finds peace in heaven, free from pain."

Raymond gave him a look.

Hubert placed the flowers and sincerely said, "Mrs. Howard, rest in peace. We will take care of Mr. Howard."

"Margaret, my Margaret."

Suddenly, a wail echoed.

Raymond, Alvin, and Hubert turned towards the door.

Sarah stood there in a black suit, a designer bag on her shoulder, crying uncontrollably, leaning against the doorframe.

Seeing Margaret's photo, Sarah sobbed, her steps unsteady. "Margaret! Last time I saw you, you were picking out your wedding dress! You wanted to be Raymond's bride again! How could you leave me so suddenly? Margaret! I'm here to see you off! Your best friend is here! You fool, why didn't you share your troubles with me? Why keep everything inside?"

Sarah's tears fell like rain as she staggered to the photo, seemingly oblivious to everyone else, focused only on Margaret.

Sarah hugged the photo, crying bitterly, her fingers tracing the cold image. "Margaret, my Margaret, your death is so tragic! What could be so unbearable? Why take such extreme measures? Didn't you think about my feelings? About those who love you? Raymond loves you so much, and so many people care about you! Why didn't you consider the consequences? We promised to be happy forever. How could you break that promise? You left without a word!"

Her voice was hoarse from crying.

Alvin frowned. Since when were Sarah and Margaret so close?

In his memory, they were always rivals.

"Mr. Howard, isn't Ms. Martinez being a bit dramatic?" Alvin whispered to Raymond.

Raymond looked at Sarah. "They were close in college. Sarah was Margaret's only friend. Respect the deceased."

"You're right. I was overthinking." Alvin sighed.

Sarah, exhausted from crying, bowed to Margaret.

"Margaret, the road to heaven must be lonely for you. You were so afraid of the cold and the dark. You must be scared. I'll come with you. We'll go to heaven together!"

Sarah stood up and suddenly rushed forward, hitting her head on the table corner.

Blood gushed from her forehead, blurring her vision.

She tried to hit again, but a large hand grabbed her arm. "That's enough!"

"It's not enough! How can it be enough? I need to be with her! My only friend is gone, and I couldn't do anything for her! I'm guilty! I'm not human! I must atone with my death!" Sarah cried, trying to break free, but Raymond's grip was so strong that she couldn't escape.
