Chapter 173 How Is Sarah's Depression Her Fault?

Margaret's mind went totally blank. How could Sarah's depression be her fault?

Seeing the confusion in Margaret's eyes, Raymond tightened his grip on her chin and sneered, "What are you playing innocent for? You took a secret photo, lured her to the lake where there were no cameras, and slashed her face with a knife? Margaret, you're truly vicious!"

"Did she tell you it was me?" Margaret laughed bitterly, anger bubbling up inside her.

She started to get it; this was Sarah's usual trick.

Raymond and she were the married couple, so why did he believe Sarah's words so easily?

Was he really that blind? He didn't even ask what happened and just blamed her?

Did he know that Sarah tricked her to the lake that day, kicked her stomach with her sharp high heels, and shoved her head into the water?

Perhaps he knew. Sarah had told Margaret that he couldn't wait; he wanted her dead.

Seeing that she wasn't dead, he must have been disappointed. He spread the news of her father's death to lure her out, just to torment her again.

Margaret blinked her dry eyes and didn't ask any more questions. There was no point in asking anymore. "Raymond, since I'm so bad, why don't you just send me to prison?" She laughed painfully.

Her words infuriated him, and she felt as if her chin were being crushed. Raymond said angrily, "If it weren't for the fact that you're carrying my child, do you think I'd let you off so easily?"

So all his tolerance was because of the child. But if he valued this child so much, why let Sarah harm her? Margaret sneered. At this moment, Raymond made her feel hypocritical and nauseous.

Raymond suppressed his dissatisfaction and said in a questioning tone, "You were with Daniel these past few days, weren't you?" Margaret didn't speak, feeling stifled and blocked.

"You don't need to explain; I've already found out. You ate and lived together. Your landlord told me everything." Raymond's mocking voice hit her hard once again, like an invisible knife, leaving her feeling torn and wounded.

But she didn't want to be misunderstood. Daniel never lived with her! He was just worried about her, bringing her meals every day, watching her eat, and then leaving quietly. Daniel was a gentleman, never doing anything inappropriate, not even touching her fingers.

Raymond's filthy gaze made her feel as if she had already been defiled. "It's not like that, he..." Margaret instinctively wanted to explain.

He sneered and interrupted, "I don't want to hear about your shady affairs."He didn't even want to listen to an explanation. And he labeled her and Daniel's relationship as shady. Margaret thought to herself, 'But, Raymond, if it weren't for Daniel, I would be dead—killed by Sarah. I came back, and all you do is suspect and resent me. You never even tried to find out the truth.'

Margaret's heart ached so much she could hardly breathe, and the air around her seemed to thin. She stared at his handsome, cold face as she said, "Raymond, are you disappointed that I'm not dead?"

"What do you think?" He blurted out without hesitation, still angry and jealous about her running off with Daniel.

He had no clue his words had already twisted things in Margaret's mind! What did she think? How could she think otherwise? His actions were so obvious.

Raymond said, "Do you remember what I told you? Margaret, don't mess with her!"

"I didn't mess with her!" Margaret snapped, losing control.

Raymond suddenly let go of her chin, his lips curling coldly as he said, "You disfigured her, caused her depression, and you call that not messing with her? She tried to commit suicide several times because of you, almost couldn't go on!"

"This is her scheme, Raymond, are you a fool? Are you blind?" Margaret roared.

He frowned and shot back, "Do you think she's as bad as you?"

Margaret was speechless, anger burning in her chest like a wildfire. If she were really that bad, how could she have foolishly fallen in love with him, gone against the Howard family's opposition, and insisted on marrying him?

She sacrificed her youth, love, everything from the Hughes family, Marlon's health, Nancy's originally stable life, and in the end, he didn't have a bit of gratitude for her! All she got was the label of being bad?

"I'm bad—not only is my heart bad, but I'm also blind. Otherwise, how could I have married you?" Margaret laughed bitterly, tears streaming down her cheeks. She wiped her tears, her eyes red at the corners.

Only then did Raymond realize he had said something wrong. He pursed his lips and said, "She said that as long as you apologize, she will forgive you. This matter was your fault in the first place. I'm a fair and just person; I can't protect you just because you're my wife."

Margaret replied, "Have you ever protected me? Raymond, I gave you the recording pen of Sarah forcing Ashley to attack me, and you didn't even want to listen, you just stomped on it! When we got married, you promised to be good to me for a lifetime. But with my dad in a coma after falling down the stairs and the Hughes Group entirely under your control, you asked for a divorce! When I refused, you fought with me and moved out of the Hughes Manor! You ignored me for a whole year!"

She continued, ''Is this your fairness and justice? Do you know what happened to me this past year? You don't! You were busy taking wedding photos with Sarah, cheating! When have you ever been partial to me? Raymond, I've seen hypocritical people, but I've never seen someone as full of righteous words as you!''

She added, ''Do you really want me dead that much? Are you that impatient? I told you, I would follow the contract. As long as you fulfill your promises, I will also fulfill your wishes. You don't believe me at all. Whatever I say is false, and whatever Sarah says is true!"

Margaret's eyes were red, tears streaming down her face as she murmured, "I'll say it again, Sarah's injuries have nothing to do with me! On the contrary, she wants to kill me! Now she's framing me!''

''Whether you believe it or not, I have to say it. I haven't done anything to wrong her, so I won't apologize to her!" Margaret wiped her tears and stubbornly spoke.

Clearly, Raymond didn't believe her and said coldly, "There's no surveillance, and you expect me to believe just your words?"

This sentence completely enraged Margaret. She looked up at him with bloodshot eyes, tears streaming down her face, and gritted her teeth as she spoke the next words.
