Chapter 462 I Will Accompany You Forever
"Are you jealous? Are you mad?" Sarah asked, sensing something was off with Raymond and trying to get closer.
Raymond subtly avoided her. "There's plenty of time."
Sarah loved that phrase. Now that she had become Margaret, she had all the time she needed to win him over.
She reluctantly got out of the car and watched as Sarah entered The Hughes Manor.
Sarah received a call from Hubert.
"Can you give him that medicine again?"
"Yeah," Sarah sighed. She had been basking in happiness, but hearing Hubert's voice abruptly ended her joy.
"Then I'll wait for good news, Sarah. Four days left, and if he isn't dead, you know the consequences."
Threats, always threats. Sarah gripped her phone, unable to speak, and hung up.
Alvin was driving, the car moving along the asphalt road.
Night had fallen.
Streetlights towered over the trees lining the road.
Snowflakes kept falling.
Alvin hesitated but decided to speak up. "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard was acting a bit strange today."
"What?" Raymond looked at him.
Alvin pursed his lips. "Mrs. Howard didn't touch her favorite dessert today. Her tastes seem to have changed a lot. I remember she always added sugar to her coffee, but today she drank it black."
Raymond scoffed, his eyes cold.
He then asked Alvin to stop the car and drove himself back. Alvin didn't ask any questions.
Before leaving, Raymond handed him a box and a white pill bottle.
"Get these ingredients tested by Rufus as quickly as possible."
"Mr. Howard, do you suspect something in this watch?" Alvin opened the box to reveal an expensive watch.
He examined it but found nothing unusual.
Raymond looked down. Ever since the imposter had given him this watch, he had been emotionally unstable and irritable.
Today, Margaret had given him another watch of the same style and brand, just to replace it without the imposter noticing.
Alvin opened the pill bottle, which was filled with white pills. He sniffed them but detected no strong odor.
"Tomorrow, buy a bottle of vitamins and put them in this bottle. Make sure the pills are the same color, shape, and size."
"Got it."
"Keep this secret. No one should know, including Margaret."
"Do you suspect Mrs. Howard?" Alvin's eyes widened in surprise.
He gripped the pill bottle tightly.
Raymond stared at the snowy landscape outside the window, expressionless.
The imposter had already shown too many flaws.
Margaret had been with him for so long, and even though she had worked as a cleaner for a while, her fingertips were still tender, without any calluses.
And the parrot, the plants—Margaret had bought them herself.
Regarding the movie incident, he hadn't actually gone. He was jealous, and during their intimate moments, he had made Margaret say things the imposter didn't know. Yet today, the bloodied Margaret had said them accurately.
Whenever Margaret talked about the mute boy, her eyes sparkled like bright stars in the night sky.
But the person beside him just now had lifeless eyes.
He had used the mute boy to determine who was real and who was fake.
"Mr. Howard?" Alvin's voice snapped Raymond back to reality.
Raymond didn't answer. He still didn't know who the imposter was or who was behind it all. He had to play along, go with the flow, and lure the snake out of its hole.
The imposter had gone to great lengths to infiltrate his life, but he had no idea what their goal was.
"Follow my instructions. Report back to me immediately with any news," Raymond said lightly. The fewer who knew, the safer.
Alvin opened the car door, got out, and took a cab, carrying the watch and pill bottle.
Raymond didn't drive immediately but rolled down the window. He picked up a cigarette from the console, lit it, and took a deep drag, expressionless.
With Daniel taking care of the real Margaret, he felt reassured. He could focus entirely on rooting out the evil around him and clearing the path for Margaret.
Before he died, he had to remove all obstacles and hand over The Hughes Group to Margaret, intact and safe.
His phone, charging, suddenly rang. He glanced at it and answered.
"Mr. Howard, have you and Mrs. Howard discussed it?" Rufus's voice was urgent.
Raymond knew Rufus was going to urge him to get hospitalized again.
"No rush."
He rubbed his furrowed brow with his cigarette-stained fingers.
Rufus was anxious. "How can you say that? Mr. Howard, you have leukemia, and it's in the late stages. You need to understand the severity of your condition. Get hospitalized and start treatment immediately. You need to find a bone marrow match. If you don't find a match while you can still be treated, it will be too late."
"Don't I have five months?" Raymond chuckled bitterly.
Rufus was stunned. "That's under the best circumstances, with treatment. You could die in two or three months. Mr. Howard, life only gives you one chance. You can't just think about living for a few months."
A man as successful as Raymond surely wanted to live a long life.
After a long silence, Raymond said weakly, "Just wait. Once I handle my affairs, I'll get hospitalized."
"But the cost of waiting is too high. You're gambling with your life."
"Alvin will come to you tomorrow. Cooperate with him for some urgent tests." Raymond found Rufus too nagging and hung up.
The snow outside the window was falling harder.
Although Margaret had wanted to talk about the mute child today, which had annoyed him, he had thrown her into the police station to show the imposter and make them lower their guard.
But he couldn't stop worrying about her. He started the car, gripped the steering wheel, and drove towards the police station.
The wheels spun on the wet road, just like his heart, eager to see Margaret.
Raymond muttered to himself, 'Margaret, bless me to live until the day I clear out the evil, bless me to live until I can hand over The Hughes Group to you, intact and safe. My illness is not serious. Because I have brought you so much pain, even if one day I become a star in the sky, a snowflake in winter, or a fallen leaf in autumn, I will always be by your side. You have my liver inside you, a different way to be with you forever.'
