Chapter 400: Am I a Man, Wouldn't You Know?

"Sure," Margaret said, picking up her phone and quickly adding Sarah as a friend.

On the way back, Raymond was driving. Margaret glanced at him. "Does Sarah like you?"

Raymond's grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Margaret."

"Is she your ex?" Margaret guessed.

He sighed. "She helped me out once, kinda like how Daniel helped you."

"But she likes you. The way she looked at you today, it was obvious."

Margaret's tone was tinged with jealousy.

Raymond reached over and held her hand. "But the person I like has always been you."

Feeling a bit better, Margaret's ears turned red. Was he confessing to her?

The air suddenly felt still.

The phone on the passenger seat lit up.

Margaret picked it up and saw a message from Sarah on WhatsApp: "Margaret, do you want to regain your memory? I know a doctor who can help."

Regain her memory?

Margaret stared at the screen. If anyone else had said this, she might have thought it was out of kindness. But coming from Sarah, it felt suspicious.

Those lost memories included her and Raymond. Did he want her to remember?

Margaret felt it was a pity she couldn't remember the past.

"If you don't like her, I can make her leave," Raymond said, gripping her fingers tightly, sounding worried.

Margaret looked at him. "Raymond, have you ever thought about me regaining my memory?"

The atmosphere became tense.

She saw Raymond's Adam's apple move. He let go of her hand and loosened his tie with his long, pale fingers. For some reason, the tie felt suffocating.

Margaret thought he was angry and quickly said, "I was just asking. If you don't want me to, I'll listen to you."

"Do you want to regain your memory?" Raymond's heart was in turmoil, though he showed no fear on his face.

If Margaret regained her memory, he feared everything now would be shattered.

But he was used to facing challenges, so he remained calm.

Margaret held his hand again. "I want you to be happy."

Raymond was taken aback, his eyes reddening. Her words were sweet, but only by maintaining the status quo could he be happy.

Feeling guilty, Raymond knew Margaret needed another booster shot soon. He couldn't risk it. His happiness was at stake.

"Margaret, I don't want you to regain your memory because your past wasn't happy. You were an orphan and had a tough life. We fought a lot during that time."

Raymond continued, "You wanted a divorce because of Daniel. It was a rough time, and our relationship only recently improved."

Margaret remembered what Alvin had said at Everpeak Mountain Hospital—that she was too close to Daniel, afraid of pain, and uncooperative with treatment.

Raymond had done so much for her. She was just an orphan, but Raymond had always been there for her, loving and protecting her.

Other men might have left her, but Raymond stayed, even risking his life in a car accident.

Such a good husband, so loving, how could he feel so insecure?

Margaret felt guilty and pained for Raymond. She bit her lip. "I was just saying. Don't worry, I won't try to regain my memory."

"Really?" Raymond's expression was pitiful.

Margaret thought he didn't believe her. "Of course. Raymond, I want you to be happy. If that means staying like this, it's fine. Even if I forget the past, being with you now is what matters."

"Margaret—"

"Enough with the mushy stuff. I get it. I promise, no matter what anyone says about you, I'll believe you. But you have to promise not to lie to me. I hate being lied to. You're the person I trust most now. I can't handle you deceiving me."

"Margaret, everything I do is for our future."

Back at Raymond's apartment, he knelt to help her change shoes. She protested, but inside, she felt happy.

She picked up her phone and remembered she hadn't replied to Sarah.

"No need," Margaret typed and sent to Sarah.

Soon, Sarah replied: "Margaret, a new cake shop opened recently. Want to go tomorrow?"

Margaret ignored her and turned off her phone.

Raymond carried her to the shower, and things quickly got steamy. His hands roamed, teasing but not going further.

Margaret's cheeks flushed. He was doing this on purpose.

She stood on tiptoe and kissed him lightly, her eyes misty. "Raymond."

"Yes?"

"Am I not attractive to you?" Margaret teased, pulling his tie.

With a tug, Raymond was pulled closer, pinning her against the tiled wall.

Margaret smiled seductively. "Are you even a man?"

"Don't you know?" His voice was deep and magnetic.

She looked down and saw his feet firmly planted in front of her, trapping her against the wall.

Margaret looked up and saw Raymond's eyes filled with desire.

Of course, she knew. The night they came back from the hospital, he had exhausted her.

But Margaret, being stubborn, lifted her chin. "How would I know?"
