Chapter 487 He Wants to Know Your Whereabouts
"Sir, I'm sorry, but you'll need to make an appointment if you want to see Mr. Taylor," the receptionist said, trying to keep her composure in front of the strikingly handsome man. She picked up the phone and dialed the internal line, asking Daniel for his decision right in front of Raymond.
After confirming that Raymond still couldn't see Daniel, she looked at him apologetically.
Raymond shot the receptionist a cold glance, then surveyed the bustling Taylor Group with equal indifference before turning to leave.
Night had fallen, and the dark sky was sparsely dotted with a few stars, emitting a faint, hazy glow.
Daniel had deliberately worked past ten o'clock before leaving the Taylor Group.
He stepped into the elevator, pulled out his phone from his misty blue coat, and dialed Margaret's number.
She answered quickly, and her voice soon reached Daniel's ears. "Mr. Taylor."
"Raymond's back. He wants to know where you are. If you want to see him, I can bring him to you," Daniel said, holding the phone. He felt it was necessary to inform her that Raymond was looking for her.
He wanted her to make her own choice.
His principles wouldn't allow him to take advantage of the situation.
A few days ago, Margaret had found a place and moved out on her own.
No one knew where she was except him.
Margaret didn't hesitate, her voice weary. "It's over between us. Please keep my location confidential."
"What if there's some misunderstanding?" Daniel couldn't help but ask, "Won't you give him a chance to explain?"
Margaret forced a smile. "I gave him plenty of chances, but he didn't cherish them. Mr. Taylor, I have things to do. I'll treat you to dinner once I'm settled."
Daniel agreed.
The elevator doors suddenly opened.
Daniel was still holding the phone to his ear when he saw a tall man in a black coat standing at the elevator entrance, staring at him expressionlessly.
Fearing that Raymond might notice something and cause trouble for Margaret, he quickly hung up the phone and put it back in his coat pocket. "Mr. Howard, you're still here?"
"Mr. Taylor, you're quite impressive. I've waited hours just to see you," Raymond said coldly, glancing at him. "Let's talk."
They left the elevator and headed to a nearby coffee shop.
The shop was nearly empty at night.
They sat by the window.
Daniel took off his coat, revealing a white turtleneck sweater. His well-defined fingers stirred the steaming coffee with a spoon.
Raymond recounted how Sarah had deceived him, how she and Hubert had conspired, and how they had been caught.
Daniel's expression remained calm, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "Mr. Howard, are you done?"
"Yes," Raymond replied, taking a sip of his coffee. The bitterness numbed his mouth.
Daniel stood up, grabbed his coat from the chair, and gave Raymond a distant smile. "I have an early meeting tomorrow, so I'll be leaving."
"Daniel," Raymond said, slamming his coffee cup on the table, his eyes filled with danger.
Daniel turned to him, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "Mr. Howard, I heard you loud and clear. Your story was a snooze fest."
"Where's Margaret?" Raymond demanded.
"I don't know," Daniel replied, his tone flat.
"Are you kidding me? Who are you trying to fool? Did you hide her?" Raymond sneered. "Weren't you the guy who didn't mess with other people's wives? What changed?"
Daniel squinted, his gaze piercing. "Raymond, she's divorced from you now. You have no claim on her."
"Divorced or not, we can remarry. She loves me, not you. Daniel, don't you get it? Margaret doesn't love you! If she did, I wouldn't be in the picture. No matter what happens, she won't love you."
Raymond's words undoubtedly hit Daniel's weak spot.
Yes, it had always been a series of unfortunate coincidences.
Whenever Raymond was in trouble, he would leave Margaret in Daniel's care, only to come back and take her away once he recovered.
Why should he have to endure this? He had feelings too; he could be hurt and sad.
Daniel threw his misty blue coat aside, stepped forward, and grabbed Raymond's collar. Before Raymond could react, Daniel punched him in the face.
Raymond fell to the ground.
Daniel grabbed his collar again, his eyes blazing with anger. "Raymond, are you proud of yourself? Did you come here just to get beaten up? What do you take me for? Your nanny? Your subordinate? You come to me when you need something, and act superior when you don't? What do you take Margaret for? Someone you can call and dismiss at will? Do you ever consider our feelings before you act?"
Another punch knocked Raymond to the ground.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. Raymond wiped it away with his rough fingers and smiled. "I'll let this go because you've taken care of Margaret for so long. But Daniel, people should know their limits. I will get Margaret back."
Daniel scoffed, shook his head, picked up his coat, and turned to leave.
"One last time, where is Margaret?" Raymond's eyes flashed with cold light.
Daniel stopped, turned back. "No comment."
"Daniel, you're not the head of the Taylor Family yet, are you? If I can't find out where Margaret is, I'll have to ask Mr. Cade Taylor. As a bastard child, you won't fare well if your father gets involved, right?"
"Are you threatening me?"
"Not a threat, just a friendly reminder. Daniel, if you don't tell me, I'll find a way to make Margaret come out herself," Raymond sneered.
Daniel looked at him with disappointment. "Is this your idea of reconciliation? Raymond, after all these lessons, you still haven't changed."
Raymond pressed his lips together. It wasn't that he didn't want to show sincerity; he simply didn't have much time left. He needed to find her quickly and get admitted for treatment. His body couldn't wait any longer.
Without finding Margaret, he couldn't face treatment with peace of mind.
"Mr. Howard, if you're so capable, find her yourself. I won't be joining you," Daniel said coldly, then walked out of the coffee shop.
