Chapter 577 Margaret Hopes to Look Up to Raymond for a Lifetime
Margaret looked up, worry etched on her face. "You're a grown man, how can you be so careless? Just answering a phone call and you end up hurting your hand like this."
Though her words were a bit nagging, Raymond felt a warmth in her concern. It felt good to be scolded by Margaret.
He flicked away the cigarette he was holding between his fingers.
With his uninjured hand, he suddenly grabbed her waist and pulled her into his arms.
Margaret stumbled into his embrace, held tightly by him.
She was a bit bewildered, finding his behavior odd and tried to struggle free.
"Margaret, don't move. Just let me hold you for a moment."
Raymond feared she might leave him the next second, so he held her even tighter, as if trying to merge her into his body. His chin rested in the crook of her swan-like neck.
The faint scent of her hair was intoxicating, so he couldn't get enough of it.
His large hand gently stroked her hair, the feeling of holding her bringing immense reassurance.
After a while, she pushed him away, her face slightly flushed. "Alright, I won't say anything more. Don't act like you're all aggrieved from my scolding. It's too hot here. Let me take you to the nurse to get your hand bandaged."
The nurse came to bandage Raymond's hand, but he refused, insisting that Margaret do it.
Margaret had no choice but to take the bandages from the nurse and carefully clean the wound on his hand.
He winced in pain, but his gaze remained fixed on her. He had no idea where Waverly was now, or what she was planning with her sudden disappearance.
His gut told him that his peaceful life had been disrupted.
Waverly was like a ticking time bomb between him and Margaret, ready to explode at any moment.
After the bandaging was done, Margaret started her nagging again, telling him to be more careful in the future. Maybe women were just like this, only nagging and worrying about the men they truly care for.
Raymond didn't find it annoying. He lied, "Alvin messed up something, and it really pissed me off."
"He's usually so meticulous, how could he mess up?" Margaret looked at him in surprise.
They walked side by side towards the hospital room.
"That's why I'm so angry."
"Raymond, you need to work on your temper. Anger is bad for your health."
"But Margaret, I'm facing a particularly tricky situation right now."
"No matter how tricky, I believe you'll handle it perfectly. You're Raymond, after all. Just relax." Margaret patted his shoulder encouragingly.
Seeing her cheerful and naive smile, he felt even more guilty.
If she knew about Waverly, would she still be able to smile?
Probably not.
Margaret was a decisive person, he had seen it firsthand. Back when he secretly gave her amnesia-inducing drugs to donate his liver to her, she regained her memory and coldly jumped from his villa.
He had turned gray overnight.
Raymond didn't want to return to those days of mutual hurt.
Back in the hospital room, Raymond looked out the window, his brows furrowed.
Margaret picked up their daughter and placed her in his arms. Their daughter smiled happily at Raymond, making his feelings even more complicated.
"Raymond, give your daughter a name. She's been born for so long and still doesn't have one." Margaret knew he adored their daughter and deliberately asked him to name her.
She wasn't in a hurry about this, but now she wanted to distract him.
Raymond thought for a moment, suggested several names, and Margaret agreed on Felicity.
Just then, the nurse came in, saying it was time for Felicity to sleep. He handed Felicity to the nurse, and Margaret looked at him inquisitively. "Explain yourself. What tricky problem did you encounter?"
"It's nothing serious, don't you trust me?" He smiled at her.
She looked at him coldly. "I'm not joking, Raymond. If you dare get involved with another woman, don't blame me for divorcing you."
"There's no other woman." Raymond said nervously.
"That's not certain. Who knows what you've been up to? You were so tense just now. Maybe you have a mistress out there?" Margaret was just speaking offhandedly.
Raymond swallowed nervously and touched his nose. "If it were true, what would you do?"
"You better hope it's not true." Margaret stared at his features. "Raymond, I told you, this is your last chance. Remember what you said when we got married? You should still remember. Before you do anything wrong, think about your wife and daughter. If you disregard us, I have nothing to say. I still have The Hughes Group, I can raise our daughter without you. But don't expect to see us again."
"Raymond, some mistakes you can make, and I won't mind. But I, Margaret, can't tolerate betrayal. If one day you don't love me anymore and fall for someone else, don't feel conflicted, just tell me. I'll let you go." Margaret grew more emotional as she spoke. "I'm not one to cling."
He pressed his hand on her shoulder, seriously promising, "I swear, there's no one else. Trust me, Margaret. I love you and our daughter."
"Then why did you say you had a tricky problem?"
"It's because of some issues at the company. Don't worry, don't you trust my abilities?"
"Is it really just the company?"
"What else could it be?" Raymond touched her flushed face, seriously saying, "Honey, cheer up. I want you and Felicity to be happy every day."
Even though they'd been together for a long time, hearing his cheesy lines still made her blush and her heart race. He was taller than her, so she had to look up at him. "If I'm happy, will you be happy too, Raymond?"
She had been looking up to him for so many years, it had become a habit. She thought, 'God, if possible, I hope I can look up to Raymond for a lifetime. Rely on him for a lifetime, stay by his side.'
