Chapter 161 You Should Come See Her

Raymond's face turned dark, and he dumped all the feed from his hand into the food box in the cage.

Margaret really hated him, huh? She'd been badmouthing him to the parrot.

His phone rang out of nowhere.

He thought it was Margaret, maybe Nancy had called her, and she was finally gonna show up!

But when he checked the caller ID, a wave of loneliness and disappointment hit him. It wasn't her.

Margaret was really sticking to her guns this time.

It was Alvin. Raymond answered the call with a blank expression.

He didn't say a word, and Alvin respectfully said on the other end, "Mr. Howard, Ms. Martinez's surgery is done, but she's really upset and kicked out all the doctors and nurses trying to give her meds. You should come see her."

Raymond hung up without a word and left.

He drove to the hospital where Sarah was. As soon as he got to the ward, he saw Hubert and a bunch of nurses pacing nervously in the hallway.

Seeing Raymond, Hubert immediately perked up. Adjusting his glasses, he said urgently, "Mr. Howard, you need to talk to Ms. Martinez. If she doesn't get her meds on time after surgery, it could be life-threatening!"

"I'll go see her."

Raymond felt a knot in his chest. He walked to the door and gently pushed it open.

A cup flew at him out of nowhere.

It shattered at his feet.

"Get out, all of you!" Sarah screamed hysterically. When she saw it was Raymond in his grayish-blue coat, her nose twitched, and tears started falling. She said in a shaky voice, "Raymond, you're here."

Her face was wrapped in layers of bandages, only her eyes, nostrils, and lips showing.

It was both sad and a bit funny.

He walked towards her, and she threw herself into his arms.

Raymond instinctively wanted to push her away, but she was crying so hard, her whole body shaking. Considering she had helped him financially, his hand, which was frozen in mid-air, awkwardly patted her back, "It's all over now."

"It's not over, Raymond. My face is ruined. It hurts so much. I've always been kind, always tried to do the right thing. Why did this happen to me?!" Sarah sobbed in his arms.

Tears soaked through her bandages.

Raymond frowned and asked angrily, "Who did this?"

Sarah cried even harder but didn't say who did it.

He didn't push. He'd find out no matter what.

After crying for a long time, Sarah's voice was hoarse.

Raymond told her to listen to the doctors and take her meds.

"Raymond, can you come see me every day?"

He just looked at her, not saying anything.

"It doesn't have to be for long. Just seeing you every day would make me feel so much better. I'm really down right now, and seeing you would cheer me up. I'm such a loser, I don't even have a friend."

"Okay, but you have to take your meds properly. I'll find the best doctors to fix your face." Raymond couldn't be too harsh on his benefactor and finally gave in.

A spark of hope lit up in Sarah's eyes.

She agreed obediently.

Raymond had Hubert bring people to change her meds, and she didn't cry or make a fuss.

After the meds were changed, Raymond sat in the room for a bit before leaving.

Alvin trailed behind him and spoke softly, "Mr. Howard, there's something fishy about Ms. Martinez's accident."

"What do you mean?" Raymond shot him a glance, frowning.

Alvin pursed his lips, looking concerned. "The place where Sarah was attacked is super remote, hardly anyone goes there, and there's no surveillance. Who hates Ms. Martinez enough to do this? If it was a robbery, why didn't they take her jewelry or wallet? They just messed up her face? Everyone knows how important a face is to a girl, right?"

"What are you getting at?" Raymond frowned, clearly annoyed.

Alvin hesitated but pressed on, "The biggest suspect should be Mrs. Howard. Mrs. Howard and Ms. Martinez are love rivals. It makes sense if Mrs. Howard did this for you."

Raymond's heart skipped a beat.

Margaret had suddenly vanished, gone into hiding.

And then Sarah got hurt!

Could it be a coincidence?

The thought sent chills down his spine.

Raymond squinted, his cold gaze fixed on Alvin, and said with a cold smile, "Weren't you always defending her? Now you're siding with Ms. Martinez?"

"I do believe in Mrs. Howard's character. I was just thinking out loud."

"I don't want to hear such baseless accusations again!" Raymond sneered.

Alvin knew Raymond was protecting Margaret. Even though Sarah was in such a bad state, Raymond still stood by Margaret.

Margaret would be thrilled to know this.

Raymond asked again, "Have you found her?"

Alvin was caught off guard for a second before realizing he was talking about Margaret.

"The bodyguards outside Mr. Hughes' room reported that Mrs. Howard hasn't shown up." Alvin looked at Raymond, worried. "Mr. Howard, could something have happened to Mrs. Howard?"

Raymond glared at him, and Alvin quickly shut up, realizing he had misspoken.

Margaret still hadn't shown up!

Raymond thought to himself, 'Margaret, where did you go? You think you can just disappear with my kid and I won't find you? '

Raymond's face grew colder, and he ordered, "Lock down Silverbrook. Search every inch! Tear Silverbrook apart if you have to, but bring her back to me!"

"Yes, Mr. Howard," Alvin replied.

Margaret's sudden disappearance made Raymond particularly irritable.

He didn't go to the Hughes Group, letting his subordinates handle the work.

He lost his appetite and gave Mary a vacation.

Then he smoked in the apartment, trying to figure out why Margaret had suddenly run away.

But he couldn't make sense of it.

The loss of control drove him even crazier!

But he was confident she would show up; Marlon was still here!

She was taking advantage of his kindness.

The phone on the coffee table suddenly rang.

It was Hubert. Hubert said, "Mr. Howard, Ms. Martinez just tried to slit her wrists. The nurse found her in time, but the wound is still pretty deep. You should come and see her."

Raymond stubbed out his cigarette, put on his coat, and drove to the hospital.

Hubert was waiting at the door, looking serious. "Ms. Martinez is showing signs of depression, Mr. Howard. You should try to meet her demands as much as possible. If it turns into full-blown depression, it could be very dangerous."
