Chapter 297 A Miracle Appeared

Margaret waited a long time for Joseph's call, but there was no response.

She was worried she might miss it, so she barely slept all night.

She watched the pitch-black night sky outside her window gradually brighten.

The red sun slowly climbed up from behind the distant hills, illuminating half the clouds.

This winter, it had snowed heavily for many days in a row.

This was a rare good weather day; the sky had cleared up. But what about her life? Would it ever clear up?

Margaret was very worried about her health. The attending doctor said she wouldn't last many days.

And the mutated child in her belly—she still didn't know what it had become.

Margaret took a cab to the hospital.

On the way, she received a call from Joseph.

"Margaret, I'm sorry. I had a late night with clients yesterday. We can't discuss your matter clearly over WhatsApp, so I planned to tell you over the phone. I was worried about disturbing your rest, so I'm calling now. I hope I'm not bothering you?" Joseph said gentlemanly over the phone.

Margaret held her phone, nervous. Was Joseph going to reject her in person?

Raymond's influence was too great. If Joseph refused, it would be normal. If he didn't take the case, other law firms in Silverbrook might not either.

"It's okay, Joseph. Just tell me your decision." Margaret took a deep breath, as if summoning all her courage, and spoke.

Joseph laughed and said, "I'm very interested in this case. I can take it."

"Really? Thank you." The weight in Margaret's heart instantly lifted. She hadn't expected him to take her case.

"But I can't guarantee we'll win," Joseph added.

"It's okay. I'm already very touched that you're willing to take it." Margaret had no idea that Joseph took the case under Raymond's instruction.

At the hospital, the attending doctor was quite surprised to see Margaret, as if her being alive had exceeded his expectations.

But then he quickly became happy. Of course, he hoped his patients could live longer.

The world was so beautiful; who wouldn't want to live a bit longer?

The attending doctor had Margaret undergo an examination. When the results came back, he held the X-rays, looking at Margaret with a complex expression.

"Doctor, you can speak directly. Now that my parents are dead, what else can't I accept?" Margaret smiled bitterly.

She clasped her hands together on her knees, her fingers digging into her flesh, causing intense pain. It made her more and more awake.

The attending doctor had seen the news in recent days and knew Margaret's parents had passed away, but he hadn't expected her to bring it up herself. He opened his mouth to speak but swallowed his words.

He wanted to comfort Margaret, telling her not to be too sad.

But if he had experienced what she had, he couldn't imagine how he would cope. If he had endured such hardships, he might have gone mad.

Especially since Margaret was a terminal cancer patient.

"Doctor, no need to comfort me. It's okay. It's all in the past." Margaret smiled generously, showing her good upbringing, and comforted the attending doctor. "Tell me about my current health. Am I going to die?"

He had said before that she wouldn't make it to the New Year.

"Ms. Hughes, do you believe in miracles?" The attending doctor looked at Margaret with a complex expression.

Margaret was stunned, not expecting him to say that.

Miracles—she had often heard about them in fairy tales as a child.

But as she grew up, she realized that life rarely had miracles; it was more about accidents and setbacks.

Even if there were miracles, they wouldn't happen to her, Margaret.

Otherwise, despite all her efforts and struggles to maintain her relationship with Raymond, Marlon wouldn't have fallen from the balcony.

Nancy wouldn't have died.

If there were miracles, she wouldn't be in the late stages of liver cancer.

Margaret shook her head. "Tell me the truth."

"I didn't believe in miracles before either, but a miracle has happened to you."

"What?"

"Normally, Ms. Hughes, you wouldn't have made it this far. So I was surprised when you came in. But after seeing your X-rays, your condition has inexplicably improved. The cancer cells have stopped spreading." The attending doctor smiled. "Isn't that a miracle?"

"Typically, late-stage liver cancer patients suffer greatly, enduring much pain. They experience severe ascites and can't get out of bed, essentially waiting to die. But Ms. Hughes, you haven't experienced any of that."

"You're not lying to me?" Margaret looked at him in shock.

He smiled and showed her the diagnosis results.

Margaret carefully examined them multiple times. Compared to before, her condition had indeed improved significantly.

Could it be that her parents were watching over her from above, hoping she would live longer?

"Can I have an abortion?" Margaret thought for a moment and asked.

This child was previously used by Raymond as a bargaining chip. If she had the child, he would help the Hughes family and take care of her parents.

Now that her parents were gone and the child was mutated, abortion was the best option.

The doctor frowned. "Ms. Hughes, your condition has only improved slightly, but that doesn't mean your body can withstand the trauma of surgery. On the contrary, a hasty operation could make things worse, and you might not survive the surgery. For now, conservative treatment is best. Maintain a positive mindset, take painkillers, and monitor the cancer cells regularly before making any decisions."

The light in Margaret's eyes gradually dimmed.

So she still couldn't have the surgery. Hope seemed to appear and then vanish.

She couldn't risk the surgery, not because she was afraid of dying, but because Joseph was willing to help her with the lawsuit. She wanted to seek justice for Marlon before she died!

Carrying a bag full of painkillers, Margaret walked out of the hospital.

'Will her body fully recover? Will a miracle happen? Mom and Dad, do you know that I am suffering in this world, so you're watching over her from above? Don't worry, as long as I have a breath left, she will seek justice for you.' Margaret thought.

She will send Raymond to prison and make him pay.

At the Hughes Group, Raymond sat coldly in his chair, his long legs crossed.

The dark suit pants made him look straight and unapproachable.

Yesterday's cheerful Evelyn was now slumped on the dark carpet. Horizon Enterprise had suddenly halted all projects, and Raymond had made it clear it was because of her. Her boss had given her an ultimatum: if she couldn't get Raymond to change his mind today, she would be kicked out of the company and held liable for all the losses caused by the canceled orders.

The losses amounted to millions of dollars. How could she, a woman, afford that?

"Mr. Howard, I was blind yesterday and made you angry. Please forgive me?" Evelyn cried heavily, transforming from a strong woman to a weak one, trying to grab Raymond's pant leg to plead.
