Chapter 246 Mutated into a Monster

Margaret listened to these words.

Her long, curled eyelashes fluttered like a dying moth's wings.

She glanced at the mirror on the table, seeing her cheeks were even paler.

It turned out her body was a hundred, a thousand times worse than she had imagined.

How bad must it be for the attending physician to make such a judgment?

"Is my body in such bad shape because of the baby?" Margaret asked in a low voice.

Seeing her determined to get to the bottom of it, the attending physician nodded sorrowfully, "That's right. Normally, the cancer cells wouldn't spread this quickly. But you're pregnant. The baby inside you has also..."

"Also what?" Margaret stared intently at the doctor across from her.

The doctor sighed, "Mutated."

"Mutated? What do you mean by mutated?" Margaret was a bit confused.

She had heard of mutated fetuses before, but she never thought such a thing would happen to her.

The doctor looked at her with pity, "The fetus is developing very abnormally. Normally, a fetus has one face, two hands, and two feet."

"Mine doesn't?" Margaret asked.

The doctor shook his head, "The one inside you has three hands, two faces, and four legs. It's a mutated monster."

Upon hearing this, Margaret felt as if she had been struck by lightning.

The doctor added, "Maybe it's because you took a lot of painkillers, or perhaps you took some medication that pregnant women should avoid. That's why the fetus is developing abnormally."

Margaret remembered that Raymond had forced her to take medication that cancer patients shouldn't take but was good for the baby.

Her body had dodged one disaster, only to face another here. This was Raymond's conspiracy.

How much did he want to torture her, to see her dead, to be so cruel as to make her end up like this?

"Ms. Hughes, normally, a pregnant woman in your situation would need to have an abortion immediately. But your body can't handle such a procedure anymore. This fetus is absorbing the nutrients from your body every day, growing rapidly like the cancer cells."

"I understand. So, this child has already been overtaken by cancer cells. Unless I die, it can't be eradicated."

"Yes, that's what I mean. Ms. Hughes, you don't have much time left. Try to live as happily as you can." The attending physician prescribed a bunch of painkillers for Margaret.

Because other medications were no longer effective for her body.

Margaret sneered, feeling grateful and warm to this rare kindness.

"Doctor, can I make it through this year?" Margaret looked at the doctor and finally asked this question.

She wanted to spend New Year's with her parents; it was her only remaining wish.

The doctor looked at her for a long time, then comforted her, "If you keep a positive attitude, maybe a miracle will happen."

Hearing his answer, Margaret gave a bitter smile.

Miracles did happen, but not to her.

What happened to her was nothing but disaster after disaster.

All the calamities and bad news she didn't want to encounter or happen would all come true. Only miracles wouldn't.

Margaret took the elevator to pick up her medication.

Seeing a bag full of medicine bottles, she fell silent.

Her body now could only be sustained by medication.

Margaret lowered her eyes, peeling off the labels from one bottle of painkillers after another, then throwing the labels into the trash can. So Raymond never knew what she was taking.

"Ms. Hughes, so you were here." Daniel came running over with his phone. He had just finished a call and went to the doctor's office, where he was told she had come to pick up her medication, so he hurried over.

Margaret looked up and saw Daniel standing in front of her. She gave a numb smile, "Mr. Taylor."

"I just got a call; I'll wait for you outside." Daniel was about to speak when his phone rang again.

Daniel glanced at the caller ID, his expression changing slightly, and looked up to apologize to Margaret.

Margaret nodded, "Okay."

Then she lowered her eyes again, continuing to peel the labels off the medicine bottles and put them into the plastic bag.

Daniel took his phone and walked out through the revolving glass door.

He stood on the steps, looking at the heavy snow, and answered the call.

"I heard from David that you bailed halfway? Daniel, what are you doing? Do you know how important this order is?" Joe's scolding came through the phone.

Daniel rubbed his forehead, "Dad, I'll explain to Mr. Garcia . Something urgent came up today."

"I don't care what urgent matter you have right now. You get back here immediately! David is already at our house; you need to come back and apologize to him." Joe ordered.

Hearing footsteps, Daniel turned around and saw Margaret carrying a large plastic bag filled with medicine bottles.

He said into the phone, "Dad, I'm a bit busy here. I'll talk to you later."

Then he hung up.

"Mr. Taylor, you haven't left yet?" Margaret was a bit surprised to see Daniel because she knew he had an engagement.

Daniel thought Margaret looked exceptionally weak, as if she might collapse at any moment.

His eyes flashed with pity, and he stepped forward to help her with the plastic bag, "Let me help you."

Margaret instinctively took a step back, "Mr. Taylor, I'm married. This isn't appropriate."

"I know you're married, Margaret. You don't have to be so sensitive. We're friends. I used to be a cop; I know better than you what should and shouldn't be done. I'm helping you because you're my friend. Come on, I'll take you home." Daniel paused, then said righteously.

Margaret was about to refuse.

"It's snowing heavily, and you know your health condition. If you get sick, how will you reunite with your family?" Daniel glanced at the heavy snow and then at her, "I can't let you go alone. Either I take you, or I call Raymond to pick you up. You choose."

Margaret saw that the snow was getting heavier, much more than when she had arrived.

It was indeed impossible to get a cab at this time, and the hospital was also in a remote location.

As for Raymond, he definitely wouldn't come to pick her up.

She didn't want to humiliate herself, nor did she want Daniel to see her as a joke.

Margaret looked at him gratefully, "Then I'll trouble you, Mr. Taylor."

Daniel took the plastic bag from her hand, and opened an umbrella, and most of the umbrella's coverage was over Margaret.

They walked down the steps towards the open-air parking lot.

Snowflakes fell heavily on Daniel's shoulders.

What Margaret didn't know was that at this very moment, Raymond was also driving back along the same route, looking for her.
