Chapter 386: Be Nice to Her, Coax Her More
Daniel carried Margaret back to her hospital room, his phone buzzing non-stop in his pocket.
He couldn't answer it with his hands full, so he hurried to the room, laid Margaret on the bed, and then checked his phone. Rufus arrived with a nurse, his face stern as he saw Margaret's flushed cheeks and furrowed brow. "She just had surgery and ran out. This is reckless."
Rufus instructed the nurse to give Margaret some fever medicine and set up an IV drip. Then he turned to Daniel. "Mr. Taylor, you need to keep an eye on Ms. Hughes. She needs rest and can't be running around. This can't happen again."
"Got it," Daniel nodded. "I'll make sure it doesn't."
His phone rang again. Daniel pulled it out and saw a missed call from Alvin. He answered.
"Mr. Taylor, are you back at the hospital?" Alvin's voice was filled with relief.
"I'm outside Ms. Hughes' room. Let's talk in person," Daniel replied.
He stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him. As he did, he heard Alvin's voice on the phone, "Mr. Taylor, I'm here."
Daniel looked up to see Alvin walking towards him, phone in hand, smiling.
"Did you find Mrs. Howard?" Alvin asked.
"She went to pray for Mr. Howard," Daniel replied.
"Mrs. Margaret Howard has always cared deeply for Mr. Raymond Howard," Alvin sighed. "Mr. Taylor, I have good news."
Daniel looked at him, a small smile forming. "Raymond woke up?"
"You guessed it?"
"Why else would you be so excited?"
"Mr. Howard's condition improved suddenly. He's been moved to a regular room. He wants to see you."
Daniel lit a cigarette before going to see Raymond. The smoke tasted bitter today. Raymond waking up left him with mixed feelings.
Maybe it was fate that he and Margaret were always just a step apart.
Raymond's VIP room was only a few doors down from Margaret's. Daniel entered and immediately saw Raymond on the bed.
Raymond was in a hospital gown, the same striped pattern as Margaret's. His hand was hooked up to an IV, and his face was pale, lips colorless, showing his weakness. He had a breathing tube, and various machines were working steadily around him.
Raymond's eyes lit up when he saw Daniel. He reached out with a hand covered in needle marks, his gaze fixed on Daniel.
It all felt like a long dream to Raymond. He remembered telling David in the operating room to prioritize Margaret's safety over his own, then everything went black.
When he woke up, Alvin had filled him in on everything that had happened. He hadn't expected so much to occur while he was unconscious.
But hearing that Margaret's surgery was successful brought him immense relief.
He reached out, and Daniel shook his hand. "If you had died, I would have thought you were a coward. You've kept Alvin and me busy these past few days. Get better soon; I don't want to deal with your mess anymore."
Daniel's tone was sharp, but Raymond wasn't angry. He tried to speak, calling out a name.
Daniel knew he was calling for Margaret. "She's fine. The surgery went well. She has a bit of a fever, but once she's better, I'll bring her to see you."
Raymond looked at him gratefully.
"You entrusted her to me. I have to return her to you safe and sound."
Raymond's eyes were filled with gratitude.
"Don't look at me like that. I'm not doing this for you. Raymond, this situation made me realize how much Margaret cares for you. She braved a snowstorm to pray for your safety, even getting a fever in the process," Daniel said coldly.
Raymond's lips trembled, his eyes full of pain. He had wanted to protect Margaret, but she had suffered so much.
"You and Margaret have too many misunderstandings. There's no deep-seated hatred between you. Just talk to her directly. If Margaret hadn't told me today, I wouldn't have known how much you misunderstood. She wanted a divorce because you didn't respect her, not because of me. She felt no warmth or care from you. You treated Sarah better than her."
"I told you about Margaret's liver cancer so many times, but you didn't listen. You thought we were lying. Look at the reality. Your biggest problem is your arrogance and distrust. Women need trust and care. You're a big CEO, but you don't understand this simple truth?"
"Maybe it's fate that she lost her memory and forgot your unhappy times. From a personal standpoint, I don't want her to reconcile with you. You don't deserve her. But that foolish woman wants to be with you. I hope you learn from this and treat her better. Spend more time with her, care for her health. If you had done that, her condition wouldn't have worsened."
Raymond felt ashamed, his lips pressed tightly together, saying nothing.
Alvin couldn't help but interject, "Mr. Taylor, please, Mr. Howard is still recovering."
Daniel shot a cold glance at Raymond. "Get well soon. I'll keep an eye on The Hughes Group. I'll bring her to see you in a few days."
Raymond tried to thank him.
"It's not for free. When you're better, pay me back," Daniel said gruffly. "I'm leaving."
After leaving the room, Alvin tucked Raymond's hand under the blanket. "Mr. Howard, don't be upset. Mr. Taylor has been at the hospital the whole time. He's a good man."
Raymond knew Daniel was a good man.
"And I think he's right. You should express your feelings to Mrs. Howard more. Say nice things, comfort her. Sometimes, a small conflict can be resolved with a kind word or a hug. When I told Mrs. Howard you had an accident, she was devastated. Without you, she wouldn't want to live. So get better and be with her. That's more important than anything else."
