Chapter 607 I Am Her Fiancé

Lyric wanted to push him away. She was still mad. Every time, he was so controlling, deciding when they'd make up and when he'd ditch her. Why should she put up with it?

But seeing him, the guy she'd been dreaming about, right in front of her, made her hesitate. His lips, tasting of red wine, were cool and soft.

Her resistance started to crumble.

Daniel pulled back, their noses touching, his hands cupping her flushed cheeks. His eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky.

His eyes were slightly red as he sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry, Lyric."

"Don't treat me like I'm Margaret."

"I know who you are, Lyric. I know it's you. Ever since you left, I've been looking for you. I even went to the address you put on your resume, only to find out it was fake. Do you know how heartbroken I was at that moment?"

Daniel wanted to pour out his heart completely, "When you called Mireille, I knew it was you. Do you know how much I hoped you would call me? I waited all night, but you never did. That's when I realized you really didn't want me anymore, that you really didn't like me anymore."

"Lyric, I didn't know the person I was supposed to meet was you. I didn't even want to go, but I made a deal with my dad. If I went through with the date, he would tell me where you were. Now I realize I was tricked by him. But at least, we found each other again."

Lyric's resolve softened a bit as she heard his words. So that was why he went on the date.

But she still minded it, "I can't accept being your second choice, Daniel."

"It's okay, Lyric. You can treat me as a second choice. I don't mind. Do you like Gerald?"

Lyric frowned.

Daniel humbly tried to please her, "Treat me as Gerald's substitute. I don't mind, as long as you give me a chance to be with you again."

"Daniel, are you crazy?" Lyric snapped. Why would he want to be someone else's substitute? Besides, she didn't even like Gerald.

"Think of me as crazy then. Without you, I'm not normal anyway. Lyric, let's get married. Or at least give me a chance to prove myself. Just one thing, don't get too close to Gerald. It hurts me."

"You were pretty close to Margaret back then, didn't you notice?" Lyric sneered.

Daniel had no response to that. He had indeed crossed the line and made her angry. He had no right to demand anything from her now.

Lyric opened the door, "Get out. I want to sleep."

"Okay." He could have forced her, but this time, he couldn't bear to. He wanted to respect her wishes completely.

"Go back to Silverbrook. You're not welcome here."

"Lyric, I'm not going back. Unless you come with me." He turned back, speaking earnestly.

She laughed in exasperation, "You're really shameless."

"If being shameless can bring you back, then I'll be shameless as many times as it takes." He smiled politely and then left the room.

Later, Lyric found out that Zephyr and Remy had arranged for Daniel to stay at The Vaughn Villa to help them develop their relationship.

Since then, Daniel was always around.

Every morning, a bouquet of roses would be on her pillow when she woke up.

The roses were fresh, with petals that looked like they were about to drip with dew, absolutely beautiful.

But Lyric would just glance at them coldly, grab the roses, go downstairs, and toss them in the trash right in front of Daniel.

A flicker of sadness would pass through his eyes, his lips pressed into a thin line.

Zephyr and Remy would scold Lyric, but Daniel would always defend her, saying it was his fault for not doing enough. He would use time to prove his sincerity and love to Lyric.

Half a month flew by.

Regal City was approaching.

Christmas in Silverbrook was a favorite holiday for young people.

Zephyr and Remy deliberately 'kicked' them out to celebrate.

Lyric remained cold and indifferent, not giving Daniel any warmth.

He didn't mind, silently following her. She liked shopping, so he accompanied her from store to store.

Lyric entered a shoe store, casually picked up a pair of shoes, and looked at them.

Daniel, in his eye-catching green long coat, followed her. The coat reached his calves, making him look tall and elegant.

His short hair made him look even more handsome.

A group of young girls outside the shoe store started taking pictures of him with their phones.

Lyric paused, holding the shoes.

Her heels were blistered from her new shoes, so she wanted to buy a pair of flats.

The salesgirl smiled and asked Lyric, "Is he your boyfriend? You two look so good together."

Being labeled as his girlfriend and complimented on their match.

Daniel couldn't help but smile. He liked hearing that.

But Lyric turned around, saw his smile, and felt annoyed. She coldly said, "No, he's just our bodyguard. He's not qualified to be my boyfriend."

Daniel's smile faded.

His heart sank, shattering into pieces. He was deeply pained by the wounds inflicted upon him by the one he loved.

Did Lyric feel the same pain when he used to criticize her family background?

"Oh, a bodyguard. Even the bodyguards are so handsome. Miss, you're very lucky." The salesgirl tried to flatter Lyric, hoping she would spend more in the store, as Lyric looked like a wealthy girl.

Lyric's eyes grew colder. She handed the shoes back to the salesgirl and walked out of the store.

Daniel followed her, noticing she deliberately slowed down. He saw her shoes didn't fit, her heels slightly red.

"Wait a minute, I need to use the restroom." He said, staring at her back.

She didn't even turn around, "Do whatever you want. It's none of my business."

Daniel turned and went back into the shoe store, picked up the black flats Lyric had put down, and told the salesgirl, "Wrap these up."

The salesgirl quickly got a box and put the shoes in it.

"Sir, you're so good to that lady, even though she's so cold to you."

"I'm not a bodyguard. I'm her fiancé." Daniel suddenly said. He didn't want people to misunderstand his relationship with Lyric.

The salesgirl was stunned, a bit confused. He actually explained to her. She quickly put on her professional smile and handed him the wrapped shoes.

Daniel paid, and she said, "You two must have had a fight, right? Anyway, I wish you and that lady a happy and loving life together."
