Chapter 78 She Loved Him So Many Years, But Now They Ended Up Like This.

Back in the day, she could plop down on his lap whenever she felt like it, but now she had to read his mood first.

He didn't shove her away, just stared at her with that icy look.

Even though he was cold, hurt her bad, and wrecked her family, she still couldn't help but love the guy.

She couldn't bring herself to leave, but what choice did she have? They'd come this far, what else was there to do?

Sighs, reluctance, and all sorts of feelings crashed over Margaret like waves.

Margaret moved closer to Raymond, who looked like a handsome but cold statue.

Her nose stung even more. She'd loved him for so many years, and now they were like this.

Just as she was about to kiss his tightly pressed lips, Margaret's eyes welled up, and tears dripped onto Raymond's hand.

Margaret covered her mouth, trying not to sob.

How did it come to this?

She'd sworn to love him forever.

His dry, cool hand suddenly pushed her away.

She fell off his lap, hitting the ground.

"Margaret, enough!" Raymond's cold eyes bore into her trembling shoulders, his hand clenched into a fist.

Being with him was such a pain for her?

Being his wife made her so miserable?

Raymond half-squatted, grabbed her chin, and stared at the tear stains on her face, his lips curling in mockery: "Ms. Hughes, believe me, one day, you'll crawl into my bed and beg me to sleep with you."

Margaret's eyes narrowed, unable to hide her hurt.

Did he really think she was that low?

Yeah, she came when called and left when dismissed.

Margaret forced a smile, though it didn't reach her eyes. "Mr. Howard, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. That day will never come."

In just over twenty days, Margaret would disappear from this world completely.

Her scent, her body, everything about her, even her name would fade away.

"Don't be so sure." He patted her cheek, sneered a few times, let her go, stood up, grabbed the shirt on the sofa, and quickly put it on.

Margaret almost fell, her hand pressing against the cold floor.

She watched him as he reached for the watch on the coffee table and put it on.

Margaret smiled and looked up at him. "Mr. Howard, after a whole night of fuss, can you sign the divorce papers now?"

Raymond slightly raised his eyelids, her expression pricking his heart with irritation. He frowned. "In such a hurry? Are you dying tonight?"

He was cursing her to die again.

Margaret couldn't remember how many times he had cursed her.

Her throat felt unbearably dry.

She picked up the three documents on the coffee table and placed them in front of Raymond.

Then she picked up a pen, unscrewed the cap, and placed it on the folder. "Mr. Howard, please sign."

Raymond retorted, "What if I don't sign?"

Margaret looked up, her eyes red from crying, but she faked arrogance, lifting her head with a determined smile. "Then I'll contact the media and expose your affair with Sarah."

Raymond didn't take her seriously at all. "Which media would dare?"

She wasn't mad, just calmly said, "Mr. Howard, you know how I roll. A clean break is the best way."

Raymond chuckled and leaned back on the sofa. "You threatening me?"

Margaret smiled too. "Not a threat, just laying out the pros and cons."

Raymond reopened the divorce papers and started reading. "Why the sudden urge for a divorce?"

Margaret stayed silent.

Raymond didn't look at her, flipping through the papers as he spoke calmly, "I want the truth."

Margaret looked at him, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "I never planned to lie. The truth is, I don't like you anymore; I'm done with you; I don't want you. Sarah cherishes you, but I don't. From the first time I saw you, you were just an orphan.

"Even now that you're the CEO of The Hughes Group, controlling the lifeblood of the Hughes family, you're still the same in my eyes."

Raymond's fingers tightened around the pen, his eyes coldly fixed on Margaret on the floor, like he wanted to pierce her face with his gaze. "So all the affection you showed me, the sweet words you said, were all fake?"

Margaret pursed her lips, touching her nose.

She clearly hadn't expected Raymond to ask that.

Of course, it wasn't fake. Raymond was her first love. She had high standards and couldn't be impressed by just any guy.

But now she was tired, just wanting to live out her remaining days without his daily mockery, ridicule, and curses.

Margaret looked up and smiled. "What else? The guys around me were either playboys or rich dudes. They all fawned over me, and I found it boring. Only you ignored me. I found it interesting. I wouldn't let any guy be arrogant towards me, so I deliberately treated you well, said sweet things to you, just to conquer you. You were so easily moved by my affection. Should I say you were starved for love or just inexperienced?"

Raymond squinted, a fleeting emotion in his eyes that Margaret couldn't understand, but it quickly vanished, like it was never there.

His eyes became deep and unreadable again.

"I'm tired of you, Raymond. I don't want you anymore. That's the truth. And don't look at me like that. Didn't you also use me and my dad? Neither of us is any good." Margaret's lips curled up as she spoke these heartless words.

Because she knew, only by provoking him would he sign the papers and only then would he completely let her go.

Raymond's hand holding the pen bulged with veins. So it was all fake, and he had been soft-hearted for Marlon's daughter.

With such a deep grudge, how could he indulge in false happiness?

He flipped to the last page of the agreement, signing his name with a forceful, swift stroke.

His handwriting was strong and beautiful.

He pressed so hard that the pen's tip tore through the white paper.

After signing the three copies, Raymond left with a cold remark, "See you at the Family Court at 10 AM tomorrow."

He added, "Margaret, if you dare not show up or play any tricks, I'll personally send you to your death."

He had finally made up his mind to sever all ties with the past, with the Margaret who pretended to love him. From now on, Raymond had only one goal that was revenge.
