Chapter 550 He Wants to Keep Her by His Side, Even If He Doesn't Love Her

This was the first time Daniel really looked at her. Her face was clean, and her cheeks had a slight flush.

Her long hair spread across the pillow.

Her small nose was delicate, and her curled lashes trembled occasionally.

Perhaps it was the moonlight spilling through the window, casting a soft glow on her, creating an atmosphere that made her resemble Margaret so much. Margaret used to be so radiant, confident, and generous.

He thought, 'The reason I care so much for Della is because I want someone who sees only me, just like Margaret does.'

He pulled the blanket over her.

Daniel never dreamed that he would fall completely for Della. The less he valued her feelings now, the more he would suffer later.

When he was ready to offer his whole heart and sincerely wanted to marry Della, he found out she no longer liked him.

As he was about to leave, slender fingers grabbed his wrist. He turned back. "Don't go."

Daniel turned around with a complex expression, looking down at Della on the bed.

"I like you—"

With his face as hard as chiseled stone, Daniel thought she must be mistaking him for Gerald.

No wonder she was so easily deceived; she was still a fan of Gerald.

A slight pain pricked his heart. He couldn't keep anyone, not Margaret, nor women like Margaret. He suddenly felt very defeated.

He reached out his fingers and, expressionless, pried her fingers off his wrist one by one.

With a cold face, he left the guest room.

The moment the door closed.

Her tightly shut eyes let tears slip down. She dreamed she was confessing to Daniel, but he coldly pushed her away. She gathered her courage and offered her true feelings to him, only to have them crushed.

Lyric choked back a sob, her closed eyes red. "Daniel, I like you."

She had liked him for a very long time, many years.

From the moment she entered college and saw his photo as an outstanding student, she was smitten. For him, she rejected all suitors.

The only time she had a direct encounter with him on campus was when she learned he was giving a lecture. She treated the student council to many meals to become the host.

So she could stand with him under the spotlight.

She even told him her name, saying she was called Lyric.

After graduation, she fought her way into The Taylor Group, but it seemed he had forgotten her. Then why did he hold her?

She was a bit confused by him.

When she woke up, it was already the next day.

She saw a message from Walter, telling her to rest for half a day and come to work in the afternoon.

She replied with an okay.

Lyric found herself in the guest room of The Taylor Villa. Her first reaction was a bit of panic, the second was nervousness—did they sleep together again?

She looked down and saw she was still wearing the same clothes from last night, untouched, and breathed a sigh of relief.

As she left The Taylor Villa, she repeatedly thanked the butler, who liked her and invited her to come back often.

Back at her friend's house, she showered, freshened up, changed clothes, and had breakfast.

Gerald called, saying he was shooting an ad at The Taylor Group and wanted to have lunch with her. She considered Gerald a friend and agreed to visit the set.

At lunchtime, Lyric arrived right on time.

Their presence together caused quite a stir. The staff, being very gossipy, took a short video intending to share it in the company gossip group.

A slip of the hand, and it was posted in the main company group.

Coincidentally, Daniel was the first to open the video.

In the video, Gerald and Lyric were very close, with no boundaries between them.

A journalist asked, "Gerald, is she your girlfriend? Girlfriends visit the set?"

"No, I'm pursuing her. Haven't succeeded yet." Gerald replied.

So, still in the pursuit phase.

An unspeakable frustration filled his chest, ready to explode.

Daniel closed the video, put his phone on the table, then picked up a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out, and lit it.

He took a few deep drags before calling Walter in.

He instructed him to do two things; first, call Della back to work. Second, summon the marketing manager.

Third, find the employee who shared the video and fire them.

The marketing manager thought he had done a great job by getting the hottest Gerald as the spokesperson, and at a price below market rate.

But as soon as he stepped into the CEO's office, he saw Daniel smoking, looking coldly at him, and smirking. "Who told you to get Gerald as the spokesperson?"

"Because he's popular and cheap." The manager sensed something was wrong, swallowed, and braced himself.

"Pause the ad shoot. Find a new spokesperson."

"This, this isn't good, right? We've already invited him. How do we explain it to him?"

"That's your problem. Do you need me to think for you?"

The manager was speechless. He was just an employee; who did he offend to be tortured like this?

If it weren't for his family, he wouldn't want to serve his boss anymore.

As soon as the manager left, Lyric received a call from Walter. She hurriedly said goodbye to Gerald, skipping their planned lunch, and rushed to the CEO's office.

As soon as she returned, Daniel mocked her. "It seems Ms. Vaughn's workload isn't enough."

"What?" She had worked all night last night, and he said this? Did he have no humanity?

"So fond of Gerald? You had dinner yesterday, and today you're squeezing in time to see him?" He bit down on his cigarette, flattening it.

He tugged at his tie. "The Taylor Group doesn't accept employees dating. You can only choose between work and Gerald."

Threats.

More threats and warnings.

Lyric felt he was being unreasonable. "Mr. Taylor, what happens between Gerald and me doesn't concern you, right? The law doesn't say working means selling yourself to the boss, does it?"

"Della, are men that important? More important than your future? Can you stop being so foolish?" He was getting impatient.

Lyric's nose tingled with sadness as she thought, 'Daniel, if I weren't foolish, you wouldn't even notice me. Do you really not understand, or are you pretending to be clueless?'

Lyric stopped arguing with him, went to her desk, turned on her computer, and started working. Suddenly, he said, "I'm free tonight."

He thought he needed to keep Della close. He hoped her heart and eyes would only be for him, even if he didn't love her.
