Chapter 49 She Opened Her Heart to Him

Margaret's brain just totally short-circuited.

She laid it all out for him.

But then he hit her with, "Pathetic?"

Tears just started streaming down her face. "So, you kissed me just to mess with me?"

Raymond saw her crying and froze for a sec.

Of course not. He was dying to have her right then.

But the second she reacted, the whole fantasy just shattered.

Flashes of Sandra crumpling to the floor, blood pouring from her chest, and her weakly shaking her head at him from under the bed, telling him to stay quiet, flooded Raymond's mind.

Those black leather shoes just kept kicking Sandra without mercy.

She coughed up blood in big, nasty gulps.

Hatred and cold logic snuffed out any last bit of pity in Raymond's eyes, replaced by pure mockery. "What else? You think I love you or something?"

Margaret was a master manipulator; he couldn't tell what was real with her.

He couldn't let his guard down with the enemy's daughter.

Raymond kept telling himself he couldn't sleep with her.

He headed to the bathroom, planning to cool off with some cold water.

Margaret wiped her tears and grabbed her sweater off the floor. "Raymond, did you sleep with Sarah today?"

He paused for a moment but ignored her and kept walking to the bathroom.

Margaret thought, 'He's not answering, so he's admitting it?'

Not ready to let it go, she pressed on.

A light but cutting reply came. "What's it to you?"

The bathroom door slammed shut.

The sound of water hitting the floor was like a drumbeat pounding on her broken heart.

She got dressed and hugged her knees.

They weren't even divorced yet, and he had already slept with Sarah.

And he had the nerve to ask what it had to do with her.

How could it didn't? She was still his wife!

The phone rang.

She stopped crying, didn't check the caller ID, and answered.

"Margaret, you're something else, blocking my WhatsApp and phone. I had to get another number just to reach you." Sarah's smug voice came through the phone.

Margaret sneered, "What do you want?"

Sarah said, "Nothing much, just wanted to see if you're dead. You know, everywhere you go, someone wants to kill you. Shows what a bad person you are, easy to get revenge on."

Sarah bragged, "You have no idea, I drugged Raymond today. When we had sex, he was so wild; I couldn't take it several times. He said I'm different from you; I can turn him on."

Margaret laughed coldly. "Really? Then why did Raymond come to find me?"

Sarah was stunned. "What did you say? He went to find you?"

"Yeah, he's in the shower right now. Want me to have him come out and say a few words to you?" Margaret mocked.

She was a pro at getting under people's skin.

"He didn't seem like he had just had sex with you. Sarah, are you lying? Maybe he didn't sleep with you at all?" Margaret finished and hung up immediately.

She blocked the number. She only said that to mess with Sarah.

Raymond had been icing her out for a year; any men would have needs. No one could hold out that long.

Raymond and Sarah must've hooked up, probably more than once.

Sarah, fuming after getting hung up on, chucked her phone on the ground and stomped on it like a madwoman.

The drug she used ended up helping Margaret.

Raymond said she talked too much, so why'd he suddenly go to find Margaret?

He'd rather be with Margaret than her.

Sarah was livid. Was she really that bad? How was she worse than Margaret?

Just then, the phone on the ground rang again.

Sarah picked it up, glanced at the screen, her face shifted, and she quickly answered, "How's the situation at the hospital? Is Ashley dead?"

A man's voice came through the phone. "Ms. Martinez, Ashley's seriously hurt and still in surgery. I couldn't get to her. If nothing goes wrong, I can handle her tomorrow."

Raymond stayed in the bathroom for two whole hours and didn't come out.

Margaret sat on the sofa, a bit worried.

If someone was drugged and didn't release his desire, it could be dangerous.

If something happened to him in her suite, she'd be in deep trouble.

But she had no clue about this kind of stuff.

After hesitating for a bit, Margaret called Alvin.

This was super awkward to talk about, and Margaret was a girl; she couldn't explain it clearly.

Alvin wasn't even fazed and gave her advice over the phone. "Mrs. Howard, in this situation, you can be the antidote. You and Mr. Howard can use this chance to patch things up."

"If that were possible, I wouldn't be calling you. He's been in the bathroom for two hours and hasn't come out. I'm worried that if this keeps up, he might be in danger. Alvin, is there an antidote for this?" Margaret bit her lip and awkwardly asked.

Alvin said, "Yeah, most pharmacies should have it."

"Can you help buy the antidote and bring it over?" Margaret asked, bracing herself.

Alvin was silent for a moment before saying, "Mrs. Howard, it's not that I don't want to help, but I'm not there anymore. I've returned to Silverbrook and just got off the plane."

Margaret murmured, "I see."

"Mr. Howard cares about you. He came to Ironwood Lane overnight for you. Mrs. Howard, you can soften your stance and seize this opportunity," Alvin suggested.

Margaret smiled bitterly. Raymond clearly came for the project, yet Alvin was still speaking up for him. Truly a dedicated assistant.

She now knew her place in Raymond's heart and didn't want to argue with Alvin. She thanked him and hung up.

Alvin didn't think much of it, assuming she was willing to reconcile with Raymond.

Margaret got dressed.

The sound of water in the bathroom pounded on the floor.

She knew Raymond was using cold water to kill his desire.

It seemed the drug was really strong. Even after hooking up with Sarah, the effects hadn't completely worn off.
