Chapter 524 You Being with Him Will Make Me Unable to Live
Alcohol only deepened sorrow, adding more layers to the pain.
The wind rattled the glass windows.
Raymond's desperate cries, mingled with the stormy weather, pierced her ears.
"Margaret, open the door. Let's talk, please? I won't let you marry someone else. You can't do this."
"Margaret, the person you love is me. It was me before, it's me now, and it will always be me. Wake up."
"Margaret, I know you're in the villa. You can hear me. You don't have to forgive me, you can blame me, torment me, ignore me, but you can't marry another man."
Margaret leaned against the window.
She tilted her head back and drained the glass of wine.
Her eyes turned red instantly.
Her throat felt unbearably tight.
"Margaret, I love you. I love you more than you can imagine. Let me stay with you, as compensation, as atonement."
Tears streamed down Margaret's face.
They fell onto the back of her hand.
Fate was cruel. If he had said these words when she wanted to hear them, she would have been moved, she would have smiled in her dreams.
'But Raymond, it's too late. There's no going back. Too many rights and wrongs, too many grudges stand between us. It's impossible to tell who's right or wrong anymore.' She wondered.
Margaret placed the empty wine glass on the table and wiped away her tears.
She had to get married, to force herself to let go, to give up on Raymond.
The longer she dragged it out, the bigger the wound in her heart would fester.
Daniel's call came at that moment.
She swallowed her bitterness and answered the phone.
"Are you asleep?" Daniel's voice was pleasant, warm.
Margaret held the phone and returned to her bedroom to sit down. "Not yet."
"Something on your mind?"
"No."
"Then get some rest. We have to go to the courthouse tomorrow to get our marriage license," Daniel comforted her.
Margaret gripped the phone tightly, biting her lip, and reminded him again, "Daniel, are you sure you want to marry me? Marriage is a big deal. It's not too late to change your mind."
"I've thought about marrying you for over ten years. Do you think I'd be rash?" He laughed and asked her, "Shouldn't I be worried that you'll change your mind?"
Margaret exhaled, hugging her knees, her eyes red. "But I don't love you yet. I might never love you. I might never love anyone again."
"That's okay. Just pretend you don't know I love you. No need to feel burdened. I'll be good to you. Besides, life is long, and people change. Not liking someone now doesn't mean you won't later. I'm confident in my charm," Daniel said, unconcerned.
Margaret was still uneasy. "But you need to know, I'm marrying you just to get rid of Raymond. That's the only reason. I feel it's unfair to you, like I'm hurting you."
"Margaret, you're not me. You don't need to worry about me. Helping you get rid of Raymond makes me happy."
"Daniel, thank you."
"Thank me by getting some rest. Bring the necessary documents tomorrow morning. I'll pick you up."
"Okay."
Daniel said, "Mrs. Taylor, congratulations on your upcoming wedding."
Would she be happy?
Margaret didn't know.
She couldn't sleep all night.
She didn't know if she should get married.
If she should hurt Daniel.
But he was so good to her, and it seemed the only way to repay his kindness was to marry him. Besides, Raymond said if she didn't marry, he would keep pestering her.
She thought, after getting married, she would try to be a good wife and fall in love with him as soon as possible. She had a restless night's sleep.
The next morning, she got up and made porridge.
She invited Daniel over for breakfast.
After breakfast, Margaret did her makeup, changed into a light pink dress, pinned up her hair, put on a pair of earrings, and slipped into flat shoes.
She grabbed her wallet, checked the necessary documents, and left the villa with Daniel.
Downstairs.
Raymond was still standing there.
The rain had stopped, and the sun was out.
It shone on him, but his black coat was still dripping wet.
Margaret didn't expect him to stand there all night. He really had nothing better to do.
She quickened her pace, pretending not to see him.
"Margaret, don't marry him." Raymond blocked her path, tears streaming from his bloodshot eyes.
Margaret was stunned. He was crying.
He wasn't someone who cried easily.
Daniel tactfully looked at Margaret. "Should I go start the car?"
Margaret nodded, agreeing.
Raymond saw his chance and grabbed her hand. "Margaret, please don't break my heart anymore. You don't love Daniel. You can't fool yourself. Do you know what marriage means? It's living together, not just being friends. It's sharing a bed, having children. Margaret, you can make love with me, but can you with him?"
Margaret was momentarily lost.
He continued, "Marriage requires feelings. Without feelings, without physical attraction, how can you endure a lifetime?"
As soon as he finished speaking, she shook off his hand and sneered. "I told you, my business is none of your concern. When you married me, you didn't have any feelings for me either, right? Did it stop you from fulfilling your marital duties?"
"You really don't have feelings for him, and you're just trying to hurt me." Raymond laughed bitterly. He didn't know what to say to make her see reason.
To escape his entanglement, Margaret spoke without thinking. "Life is long. What law says you can only love one person? Raymond, I'm getting the marriage license with Daniel today."
"Are you really in such a hurry to get married? Afraid I'll keep pestering you?" Raymond's eyes filled with tears, and he laughed despairingly. "Is this really necessary?"
Margaret smirked, "Finally found someone I like, shouldn't I seize the chance?"
"Margaret, if you marry him, I won't be able to live. I'll go crazy. If you're so determined to marry Daniel, why did you donate bone marrow to me? Wouldn't it be better if I died?" Raymond couldn't understand her. That night, though she was drunk, her body didn't resist his touch.
She liked him.
But why would she marry Daniel...
Margaret's lips curled. "Just to settle things with you."
Daniel drove up and honked.
Before leaving, Margaret turned back coldly and looked at Raymond. "If you really can't live, then go ahead and die. Atone for my parents. Now you have nothing, and it's hard to endure. Better to die early and be a good person in the next life."
