Chapter 360 Forgetting is Also a Kind of Happiness
"Does it hurt? I told you to clean the floor, and you're just standing there daydreaming! Guess it doesn't hurt enough," Hubert said, pressing down harder on Sarah's hand.
Sarah screamed in pain. Ever since Hubert had survived the accident she had orchestrated, he had been finding new ways to torment her.
Hubert watched her face contort in agony, sneering. Sarah was like a venomous snake. He had once wanted to marry her, to give their child a home.
But she had tampered with his car, causing the accident.
He had narrowly escaped death. Now, seeing her, he felt no affection, only contempt.
"Has Margaret spoken to you?"
"N-not yet..." Sarah stammered through her pain.
Hubert crouched down, still pressing on her hand, and grabbed her chin. After a moment, he slapped her hard.
Blood trickled from Sarah's mouth. Her eyes widened in shock; she didn't understand what she had done to deserve this.
"Useless! You provoke Margaret, and does she even acknowledge you? Worthless," Hubert said, slapping her again.
Sarah fell to the floor, not daring to breathe.
Hubert released her. "Is dinner ready?"
"It's ready. The soup you asked for is done. I'll get it for you," Sarah said, scrambling to her feet and hurrying to the kitchen.
Hubert looked at the soup in front of him, clear and bland. He took a sip.
Sarah's heart pounded in her chest.
Before she could speak, a bowl of scalding soup was thrown at her.
The hot liquid soaked through her maid's uniform.
Sarah jumped up, glaring at him. "What are you doing?"
"You can't even make a decent soup. You're completely useless," Hubert said, pushing her against the edge of the dining table.
He reached for her skirt.
Hubert had a rule: no underwear in the mansion, so he could have his way whenever he wanted.
Sarah felt his hands on her chest, squeezing hard.
She cried in pain.
Clearly, he wouldn't be satisfied with just this. When he pressed against her, she tried to resist. "Hubert, please. My body can't take this right now."
Her face was filled with fear and rejection.
Hubert pushed her back down. "Let you go? Did you think about this outcome when you tampered with my car, hoping I'd never return?"
"I was wrong..."
"I have an idea to make you Raymond's wife faster."
"What idea?" Sarah asked urgently.
Without any preamble, Hubert entered her. "Get pregnant and pin it on Raymond. Then you can be his wife."
"But my body..." Sarah was stunned. He was treating her like a tool, not caring about her health.
She had just had a miscarriage, and now he wanted her to get pregnant again, which would be devastating to her body.
Hubert slapped her again, annoyed. "You'd better get pregnant quickly. If you do, you can rest for a few days, live a better life. Otherwise, if I play you to death before you marry Raymond, you'll lose out."
Thinking about his child inheriting The Hughes Group, using Sarah to gain Raymond's entire fortune, Hubert felt a thrill of excitement.
Everpeak Mountain City.
Director's office.
Rufus looked at Raymond, concerned. "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Margaret's condition can't wait any longer. She needs immediate treatment. If we delay, it might be too late."
"Mr. Jones will be at the hospital the day after tomorrow to see her personally. Get everything ready," Raymond said, his face stern.
Rufus sighed in relief. "That's good."
Then, as if remembering something, he asked, "Mr. Howard, our hospital doesn't have a compatible liver for Mrs. Margaret. Has Mr. Jones found one?"
"I'll donate mine."
Rufus was shocked. "But Mrs. Margaret's condition is severe. You're not just donating a part of your liver, but the entire left lobe. Removing such a large portion could threaten your life. And if the surgery fails, both of you might not survive."
Despite David's renowned skills in the medical field, there were always risks, especially with such a major transplant.
"Mr. Howard, are you sure about this? We might find a suitable liver for Mrs. Margaret," Alvin added.
Raymond blinked. "Margaret's condition worsens every day we delay. Let's proceed as I said."
"But if you don't make it, Mrs. Howard—" Alvin began.
Raymond gave a bitter smile.
If he didn't make it, she would probably be happy. There would be no obstacles between her and Daniel. She could reclaim The Hughes Group.
Seeing her with another man, getting married, having children, would be painful for him.
Raymond was willing to take this gamble, to trade his life for Margaret's.
He believed his parents were watching over them from above.
Nothing would go wrong.
Rufus added, "I've heard from the nurses that Miss Shen has been refusing food and medication. Mr. Howard, this isn't good. Mrs. Margaret's cancer cells are spreading rapidly. Not taking her medication is dangerous."
"Also, Mr. Howard, from Mrs. Margaret's attitude, she won't cooperate with the treatment. Are you planning to force her to see Mr. Jones? He won't accept that."
Raymond felt a headache coming on.
Margaret was causing a scene, wanting to die.
She wouldn't willingly see the doctor.
Raymond, stressed, lit a cigarette.
Rufus and Alvin watched him quietly.
"Mr. Howard, do you remember what you asked me before?"
"What?" Raymond asked through the smoke, looking at the chubby Rufus.
"You mentioned that it would be better if Mrs. Howard could forget the past. Our hospital has a new batch of medication. One injection could make her forget everything. If she won't cooperate, maybe this is a solution. Sometimes, forgetting painful memories can be a blessing."
Raymond's eyelid twitched. The cigarette burned down, scorching his fingers. He snapped out of it and extinguished the cigarette in the ashtray.
Should Margaret get the amnesia injection?
If she did, she would be obedient, free from pain.
But if she regained her memory later, it could destroy their future.
