Chapter 120 Raymond Got Jealous
"Who picked up the tab?" Raymond chuckled.
The dean said it was Daniel.
Raymond laughed, annoyed. He told her to find Daniel, and she actually did.
"Send the money back and use my account. Tell him Raymond from the Hughes family is handling it."
After hanging up, Raymond lit a cigarette and called Alvin. "What's Margaret up to?"
Alvin's eyelid twitched. He knew this call was coming.
He glanced at Margaret, who was laughing with Daniel at the restaurant. If he told the truth, Raymond would definitely give her a hard time.
Margaret had been good to him. Without her, he and his wife wouldn't have met, let alone gotten married.
"She's out shopping," Alvin lied.
Raymond wasn't buying it. "Really?"
"Yeah, she's in a good mood."
"Of course she is." Raymond sneered and hung up.
Alvin sighed in relief, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
In the restaurant, Daniel was serving Margaret food, telling her to eat more, saying she looked thinner.
Margaret felt a bit awkward since she was Raymond's wife. But Daniel, a former cop, had helped her a lot. Maybe she was overthinking it.
So she didn't hold back and ate what Daniel served her.
In another corner, Sarah sent photos to Raymond's WhatsApp with a message: [Raymond, what a coincidence. I ran into Margaret and Daniel having dinner. Anyone would think they're a couple.]
After sending the message, Sarah lowered her hat brim and left the restaurant.
Knowing Raymond, Margaret was in for it.
Daniel picked up his phone and saw a refund notification.
Then a message from the dean: [Sir, Raymond appreciates your concern for Margaret, but he wants you to know he's from the Hughes family and you don't need to worry.]
Daniel texted back, expressionless: [Has Mr. Hughes's medical bill been paid?]
Margaret's phone rang suddenly.
She glanced at the caller ID and hung up.
But Raymond called again.
Not wanting to argue in front of Daniel, she apologized. "I need to take this. I'll be right back."
"No problem, take your time," Daniel said with a gentle smile.
He watched Margaret leave. Outside, she put one hand in her jacket pocket and answered the phone.
Raymond's mocking laughter greeted her. "You've got some nerve, hanging up on me."
"I'm busy. I don't have time for this." The cold wind cut across her face.
Raymond sneered. "Busy having dinner with Daniel? Margaret, you haven't even divorced yet, and you're already so eager?"
"You done? If so, I'm hanging up." She calmly eyed the flickering neon lights across the street. So, he was tailing her.
Classic Raymond.
"In ten minutes. If you're not home, you'll regret it."
Threatening again. Margaret had enough and hung up abruptly.
When she needed him most, he just watched, mocked, and took advantage of her, never offering real help.
She was done dealing with him, even arguing.
Back in the restaurant, she sat down.
Looking at her half-eaten plate, she suddenly lost her appetite.
"Everything okay?" Daniel asked, his deep, soothing voice cutting through her thoughts.
Margaret forced a smile, shaking her head. "Just a scam call. These scammers are getting bolder. Got a bit worked up."
Daniel seemed to get it and didn't push.
She changed the subject. "Thanks for your help today, really."
"Don't mention it." Daniel thought about the refunded bill and frowned. "Actually, I didn't help much."
Margaret quickly said, "You've been a great help."
"Raymond still cares about you, you know. You just don't see it," Daniel remarked.
Margaret was about to argue when her phone dinged.
Raymond's text hit her weak spot: [Margaret, if you're not home in ten minutes, don't blame me for kicking Marlon out of the hospital!]
Margaret was so angry. She quickly replied: [You're despicable!]
Raymond: [I can be even more despicable. Try me!]
Margaret turned off her phone.
Daniel started, "Actually, your dad's medical bill is—"
"I have something urgent. I need to go back. I'll cover the bill. See you." Margaret cut him off.
Ignoring Daniel's protests, she insisted on paying and took a cab back to Raymond's villa.
She used her key to open the door and found the place dark.
He wasn't home.
She sighed in relief, changed her shoes, and headed to the bedroom.
There, she saw a torn photo in the trash can.
She picked it up and saw it was a picture of the mute child's back!
'Raymond, you bastard,' she cursed in heart.
The photo of the mute child was her only clue to finding him.
Margaret pulled up a chair, sat down, and carefully pieced the torn photo back together with glue.
Her hands were skillful, and she quickly restored the photo.
Holding it in her hand, the light from the lamp made it seem like a lost treasure regained.
At that moment, Raymond came home with a cold expression.
Seeing her slippers missing from the shoe rack, his expression softened a bit.
When he walked into the bedroom, he saw Margaret sitting at the desk, intently examining something.
Raymond deliberately slowed his steps and tried to not make a noise.
Then he saw her holding the restored photo of the mute child's back, smiling so sweetly. Raymond felt a pang of jealousy.
