Chapter 362: This Time, He Is Determined to Win

Raymond had just taken a step forward when he abruptly pulled back.

His pupils contracted tightly, as if in pain.

He clenched the pills in his hand, feeling their sharp edges dig into his palm.

So she really didn't want to see him anymore. Even if he was doing it for her, even if he was risking his life to donate his liver to her, she still didn't want to see him.

Raymond's throat felt dry and rough. He pressed his lips together, afraid to make any sudden moves. He didn't even dare to breathe loudly.

He was terrified that speaking would provoke Margaret into doing something even more reckless.

"Raymond, if you take one more step, I'll die right in front of you!" Margaret screamed again, fearing he wouldn't believe her. Her pale fingers gripped the knife handle tightly.

The blade was just a fraction closer to her neck, and her skin broke, staining the knife with spots of blood.

Raymond panicked, "I'm not coming closer! Please, calm down!"

"Get out!" Margaret's tear-filled eyes glared at him as she gritted her teeth.

Raymond looked at the wound on her neck, "You're bleeding."

"Get out!" Margaret repeated, pressing the knife deeper.

Raymond was terrified by her extreme actions and quickly retreated from the room.

The door closed, and the knife slipped from Margaret's hand.

She collapsed onto the bed, unable to stop her tears. An overwhelming sense of despair enveloped her, making it hard to breathe.

She felt like she was losing her mind.

Outside the room.

Raymond smoked continuously, never letting the cigarette leave his hand since he left the room.

He asked the nurse to stop the bleeding on Margaret's neck, but she was chased out by Margaret.

Rufus heard about the situation and rushed over.

Alvin stood by Raymond's side, unable to say much, just sighing as he watched Raymond smoke.

Rufus suggested waiting until Margaret fell asleep before he checked on her personally.

Half an hour later.

Rufus spent over ten minutes in Margaret's room before coming out, his face heavy with concern.

"What’s wrong with her?"

"Mr. Raymond Howard, if my assessment is correct, Mrs. Margaret Howard has been mentally unstable for quite some time. Her reaction today is indicative of severe depression combined with bipolar disorder. When depression reaches a critical level, it can lead to self-harm, irritability, uncontrollable emotions, and suicidal tendencies."

Raymond's cigarette froze in his hand. So Margaret's desire to die wasn't just because her parents passed away.

It was her worsening depression.

When did she develop a mental illness?

He had no idea.

"Did Mrs. Howard show any signs of depression earlier?"

"What are the early symptoms?"

"Insomnia, negativity, a sense of hopelessness. She might have had breakdowns. Her current condition suggests that it wasn't detected in time and wasn't treated with medication, leading to this severity."

Insomnia.

Raymond was stunned. Yes, she had told him a long time ago that she couldn't sleep and often had insomnia.

He thought she was just upset with him, so he put aside his work and took her on a trip to Silverwood.

Then she moved in with Daniel.

Margaret had already been experiencing depressive symptoms back then.

He didn't know. He didn't take it seriously.

Suddenly, he felt that Margaret's outburst today, her anger, and her destruction were too kind to him.

No wonder she didn't want treatment anymore.

"Mr. Raymond Howard, I now understand why Mrs. Margaret Howard is so resistant to treatment. Depressed patients' mental worlds are different from what we see. They are sensitive and prone to overthinking. She needs a sense of validation." Rufus frowned, paused, and then said, "Given Mrs. Howard's current condition, I suggest administering an amnesia injection."

Raymond remained silent.

An amnesia injection.

Erasing all her memories, is that really the right thing to do?

"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard has both physical and mental illnesses. Without erasing these memories, she won't be able to accept treatment. The more we push, the more it will trigger her rebelliousness. It will be even more troublesome then."

Raymond still didn't speak.

Alvin, who had been silent, chimed in, "Raymond, I also think that erasing these painful memories would be beneficial for her and for you. You want Margaret to accept treatment and live well, right? If she loses her memories, you can still be by her side, treating her well, and the feelings can be rebuilt. But if you let Margaret continue like this, she might really lose her life."

Raymond understood these principles.

He understood them well.

Without these memories, she wouldn't reject him so much.

Maybe they could really go back to how things were.

Raymond hesitated because he feared that if Margaret remembered, she would hate him and never forgive him.

This was deception.

This was a lie.

But now, it seemed there was no other path for him and Margaret.

She needed treatment. As long as she lived, whether she remembered or hated him later was a problem for the future.

He couldn't worry about the future now.

As long as she lived without illness or pain, as long as the bright, spirited girl she once was returned, he would be satisfied.

He no longer dared to hope for too much.

Raymond finished his last cigarette and lifted his eyes, "Administer the amnesia injection to Margaret."

Life is a gamble, and his luck has never been bad. This time, he believed he could start over and change the outcome.

Rufus nodded, "Alright."

"Are there any side effects after the injection?"

"No, there aren't. Once the injection is administered, Mrs. Howard will wake up as a different person. She might not recognize you. But Mr. Howard, I believe that sometimes a kind lie is more meaningful than a cruel truth. Mrs. Howard might recover physically and mentally through this injection."

Rufus and the nurse entered Margaret's room to administer the injection.

Raymond was in the hallway when he received a call from Daniel, "Mr. Jones has strict requirements for the hotel. I'll send them to your phone later. We'll arrive at Everpeak Mountain airport the day after tomorrow morning and will come to see Margaret in the afternoon."

"Thanks." Raymond held his phone.

Daniel sneered over the phone, "Is everything okay with Margaret? Is she really willing to see the doctor?"

He had talked to Margaret several times, but she refused, so Daniel was a bit worried.

Raymond smirked, "Daniel, Margaret has always liked me. If I persuade her, what's the problem?"

"You hurt her so much. What does she like about you? If she liked you, I wouldn't have had the chance to take advantage. Send me her preferences quickly. I need to find time to understand her better." Daniel laughed.

Raymond felt a sudden surge of frustration and irritation, ending the call without further conversation.

Margaret lost her memory, would she still choose Daniel? This time, Raymond was determined to win Margaret back. He could offer any compensation to thank Daniel for convincing David to save her, but he would never let Margaret go.

This amnesia injection had to serve its purpose.
