Chapter 316 Raymond, This Is The Last Time We Will Talk Like This

Evelyn's manic laughter pierced Margaret's eardrums.

Margaret hadn't yet reacted when the withered tree branch holding her hands suddenly became lighter.

She felt herself plummeting like a butterfly with broken wings.

Facing the cold wind, facing the large, falling snowflakes.

Margaret wasn't scared at all. Facing death, she found herself surprisingly calm.

'Dad, Mom, are you seeing how hard my life has been? Is that why you want to take me away in this manner?' She thought.

Thinking she was about to reunite with her parents in heaven, a comforting smile appeared on Margaret's lips.

In an instant, her body stopped falling, and she didn't feel any pain.

Looking down, she saw an abyss beneath her, so deep it was unfathomable.

She suspiciously raised her eyes, seeing her wrists, bound by ropes, tightly held by Raymond.

Raymond, dressed in a black coat, was kneeling on the ground, his legs soaked by the thick snow.

The sky was gloomy as the snow kept falling continuously, landing on Raymond's curled eyelashes and pursed lips.

Perhaps because of the cold weather, Margaret saw his ears were bright red from the cold.

She glanced at his hands, which were gripping the rope around her wrists tightly, with his palms covered in blood that stained the rope red.

Their eyes met.

Snowflakes fell on the corners of Margaret's eyes, cold, icy, even a bit itchy.

But her wrists were bound, she couldn't scratch the itch, only frown.

"Raymond, there's no surveillance here. If you let go, no one will know." Margaret gave Raymond a desperate smile, her voice light and faint. There was no emotion in her eyes.

This was the second time Raymond had heard this!

The first time was a few days ago on New Year's Eve, when Marlon fell from the balcony, and he had held him tightly like this. Marlon had said the same thing.

Raymond didn't like hearing it. When he found out she was in trouble, he risked his life to save her. His palm was cut by a machete, the rope digging into the wound, causing excruciating pain.

But nothing was as frustrating as Margaret's words!

Raymond felt a lump in his throat. "Margaret, this is not the time for your tantrums!"

"Raymond, this should be the last time we talk like this. The last time I don't want to argue with you anymore, there won't be another chance. Don't speak, listen to me."

Margaret gazed at Raymond's handsome features, the man she had loved for so long. For loving him, she had lost her parents.

Raymond also gazed at her, not speaking. He wanted to know what Margaret wanted to say.

"Raymond, I never thought we would end up like this. I thought our love could overcome all difficulties, and that you would keep your promise to be good to me and my family. That you would be good to me for a lifetime, and we would be the happiest couple in the world, and I would be the happiest woman in the world."

The cold wind blew at the hem of Margaret's clothes.

Margaret's voice became more ethereal, tinged with mockery. "I never thought your love was a poison wrapped in candy. You deceived me, used my feelings, and married me just to gain my father's trust. Just to get the Hughes Group, and then you showed your true colors. To get back at my dad, you took over the company my parents built. To get back at my dad, you married me, but didn't treat me well, forcing me to divorce."

"This past year, you didn't call me once, Raymond. You blocked me on WhatsApp, and didn't send me a single message. You didn't show up on our wedding anniversary. When my dad had a car accident and needed money for surgery, you ignored me, and even my mom. You said you were an orphan, that my dad wasn't your dad."

"To find out the truth about your parents' death, I went to Ironwood Lane alone. I thought if I could clear my dad's name and prove he wasn't the murderer, we could go back to the way things were! But I was too naive. Do you know what I went through on the way? You don't, you know nothing."

"In Ironwood Lane's Eldoria, Ashley chased me with a wrecked car, the snow was just as heavy that day. Do you know how scared I was? I was terrified, I called you, hoping you would come save me! But you didn't answer! If Daniel hadn't come, if Ashley hadn't regretted it and crashed into the guardrail, I would have been dead."

"A few days before New Year's, my dad was discharged from the hospital and almost had a car accident. You saved our family. Your car was wrecked and caught fire. I saw Sarah running to save you, that should have been me! I watched her risk her life to save you, even getting her face burned in the process! I stood there foolishly, thinking you two were the real couple."

"I'm an outsider, an intruder, the one who ruined your relationship. Alvin told me to bring you soup, I didn't want to owe you anything, so I did. But what did I see? I saw you in Sarah's ward, she was asking you for a commitment, asking you to marry her! I even saw her asking you for a kiss!"

"Margaret, it's not what you think..." Raymond's throat tightened, instinctively wanting to explain. It wasn't what she saw, he hadn't agreed to Sarah's demands.

He never thought of divorce, his wife would only ever be Margaret.

Margaret let out a mocking laugh, her eyes red, tears streaming down her face as she smiled at him. "No need to lie to me anymore, Raymond. We were a mistake from the start, meeting was a mistake, and marrying was a mistake. If it started with mistakes, how could it end well?"

"I used to not believe that my dad, such a kind man who saved so many people, the kindest man in the world, could be the hit-and-run criminal you said he was, who set a fire to avoid criminal charges! When I saw his suicide note, I finally understood it was all true! He did good deeds because he made one mistake in his life, and that mistake was your parents' death!"

"The past is too complicated, it's all too unclear. My dad died in front of you, hoping to trade his life for mine and my mom's. But he didn't know, once he was gone, everything was gone. My mom died too, and I can't go on living."
