Chapter 139 Swear

Raymond said, "I swear, no matter what happens down the road, no matter what issues pop up, I'll always take care of Margaret's parents and help out the Hughes Family!"

Margaret shot him a sneer. "If you break this promise, you'll be cursed with no kids or grandkids and die a miserable death!"

Raymond looked at Margaret, who was carrying his child, and still making him swear like this. It felt like their roles had flipped.

His eyes stung, tears streaming down his face. He gritted his teeth and repeated, "If I break this promise, I'll have no kids or grandkids and die a miserable death!"

"Happy now?" Raymond growled at her.

Margaret trembled in fear.

He let her go, not looking back, and turned to leave.

"Get rid of the bodyguards outside. I promise I won't get an abortion, and I'll keep my word!" Margaret called out again.

Raymond ignored her, stomped downstairs, and drove off in his black Bentley, flooring the gas pedal. It turned out that being treated like that by someone he loved hurted like hell.

Raymond's heart ached so much he could barely breathe.

He was planning their future, but she was full of schemes and curses.

Two voices battled in Raymond's mind.

One said, "Raymond, she's your wife. Treat her better! Marlon wronged you, not Margaret!"

The other countered, "Raymond, she's Marlon's daughter! How can you have feelings for her? She's not innocent; she's a beneficiary! Think of your parents who died tragically. You still want to live a good life with her, as in days of yore! Your parents died unjustly! They died in vain!"

Raymond's head felt like it was going to explode. The car accelerated increasingly. He didn't know what to do next!

Back at the villa.

Margaret slept soundly, having gotten the money and the promise.

Early the next morning, a call from Alvin woke her up.

Groggily, she answered, and Alvin said, "Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard had a car accident last night. Do you want to come see him?"

Margaret's heart tightened. "He was fine last night. How did he get into a car accident?"

Alvin said, "He was driving too fast and crashed into a tree. I wanted to contact you last night, but Mr. Howard wouldn't let me. I know he wants to see you. If you bring some of his favorite snacks, he'll be happy."

"Mrs. Howard, you and Mr. Howard need time to get along, and now you have the opportunity. You should make the most of it," Alvin said earnestly.

Margaret asked, "Is he okay?"

"Mr. Howard just has a scratch on his forehead, nothing serious. But the doctor wants him to stay in the hospital for observation for a day," Alvin explained.

Margaret thought about their fierce argument last night. She had even forced him to swear; he probably didn't want to see her.

"I won't come. Take good care of him," Margaret said and hung up.

At noon.

She was eating the nutritious meal Mary had prepared when she saw a message from Alvin.

Alvin: [Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard has no appetite and hasn't eaten anything today. Why don't you come see him and give him a surprise?]

In an instant, Margaret saw the photo he sent.

In the photo, Raymond was in a hospital gown, with white gauze wrapped around his forehead, smoking a cigarette with a blank expression.

He looked super anxious.

Margaret was about to text back that she wouldn't go; if she did, he'd probably eat even less.

Mary started chatting in front of her, "Mrs. Hughes, the bodyguards downstairs are gone today. Does this mean you can go out shopping and take a walk?"

So he really had removed all the bodyguards. Margaret's eyes widened in surprise.

Mary said, "Mrs. Hughes, I have to thank you. Mr. Howard gave me a raise, a whole two thousand dollars; he wants me take good care of you and cook your favorite meals. Mr. Howard is really a good person."

Margaret didn't say anything but thought to herself, 'Is he a good person? He's the most twisted person in the world!'

She still didn't want to strain their relationship. After her death, her parents and the Hughes Family would need Raymond's care.

Alvin was also good to her, and she didn't want to make things difficult for him.

Margaret looked at Mary and said with a faint smile, "Mary, please prepare some soup. I'll take it to the hospital later."

"Got it, Mrs. Hughes, I'll get right on it," Mary replied quickly.

Margaret picked up her phone and sent a message to Alvin, asking for the hospital address.

Coincidentally, the hospital was the same one where Marlon was.

But she wasn't surprised because that hospital was owned by Raymond.

She could also check on Marlon's recovery.

Mary quickly prepared the soup and wanted to go to the hospital with Margaret, but Margaret refused. She wasn't used to being followed.

Besides, her health wasn't bad enough to need someone to follow her around.

She even let Mary leave work early. Mary was so happy that she kept showing gratitude, took off her apron, and left the apartment.

Margaret took the soup and grabbed a taxi to the hospital.

While taking the elevator, she sent a message to Alvin.

Margaret: [I'm almost at the ward.]

Alvin: [Mrs. Howard, can you come a little later? Mr. Howard is not convenient right now.]

Margaret: [It's okay, I'll just take a quick look and leave.]

Margaret didn't think much of it, replied, and turned off her phone screen.

The elevator door opened.

She carried the soup and followed the crowd out.

At the ward door, Alvin came out and looked a bit uneasy when he saw Margaret, saying, "Mrs. Howard, I told you to come later."

Margaret asked in confusion, "Who's inside?"

Alvin pursed his lips and said, "No one, Mr. Howard is taking a nap."

She naturally didn't believe him.

Taking advantage of Alvin's distraction, she pushed open the ward door and walked in.

Alvin was a bit shocked but still closed the ward door.

"Raymond, this is soup I made for you. Have a sip."

Sarah's affected voice fell into Margaret's ears, particularly jarring.

Margaret walked in, her high heels clicking, and saw Sarah intimately feeding soup to Raymond on the hospital bed.

"Margaret, why are you here?" Sarah turned around at the sound of footsteps and was surprised to see Margaret.

Raymond looked up at Margaret upon hearing this and met her gaze.

In front of Margaret, he drank the soup from the spoon Sarah held to his mouth.

Margaret found it particularly glaring. They hadn't divorced yet; they were still married, and he was already so intimate with Sarah? They weren't even trying to hide their feelings from anyone!

Margaret gripped the thermos tightly, looked away from Raymond, and quickly walked up to Sarah, grabbing her wrist as she said, "He has a wife. Are you acting like I'm dead by getting so cozy with him?"
