Chapter 609 Lie Down, I'll Apply Medicine for You

The car rolled to a smooth stop in front of The Vaughn Villa.

Daniel hopped out first, then swung open the passenger door, extending a hand to help her out.

She refused. "I don't need your help. Move."

"Your foot's swollen, and you're still trying to act tough?" Daniel said, scooping her up effortlessly. He shut the car door with his foot and headed toward the villa.

Lyric scowled. "Put me down. What if someone sees us?"

"Your parents won't care. If you don't want me carrying you, take better care of yourself," he teased, quickening his pace up the steps and into the living room.

The moment they stepped inside, the air felt thick with tension.

"Mr. Vaughn, Mrs. Vaughn. You're still up?" Daniel greeted the couple, who had their backs turned.

Zephyr spun around, his face darkening at the sight of Lyric in Daniel's arms. "You're not even married yet, and you're already all over each other? Have you no sense of decency?"

Lyric was stunned. Zephyr had always been fond of Daniel. What changed?

Daniel gently set her down, keeping a supportive hand on her arm. "Mr. Vaughn, it's not what you think. Lyric's shoes were too tight, and she hurt her foot—"

"Daniel, this is The Vaughn Family. Do you think a bastard like you has the right to speak here?" Zephyr's voice was icy.

Daniel's jaw clenched at the word "bastard."

Remy stepped forward, pulling Lyric behind her. "Come here, don't upset your father. You should be more careful when you go out. Why didn't you tell us you were hurt?"

"Mom, what are you talking about? I don't get it," Lyric said, bewildered.

Remy glanced at Daniel, then back at Lyric. "Your father found out about what happened with you and Daniel in Silverbrook. We know you went through a lot at The Taylor Group and were called a gold digger. We also just learned about your miscarriage and that you can't have children."

Lyric's eyes widened. They knew everything. This meant she and Daniel were truly over.

Zephyr glared at Daniel. "Mr. Taylor, go back to where you came from. The Vaughn Family doesn't need you here. Pack your things and leave. Don't make me throw you out."

Daniel bowed and apologized before them. "Mr. Vaughn, Mrs. Vaughn, I'm sorry. I was an idiot before and didn't appreciate Lyric. I know I messed up. I'm here to make it right. Please give me a chance. I'll take any punishment without complaint."

"It's too late for that! My daughter, I can't stand to see her hurt, let alone let her marry someone like you. Get out!" Zephyr shouted, raising his cane and striking Daniel's back.

Daniel stayed silent, enduring the pain. Soon, his shirt was soaked with blood.

But Daniel didn't budge, even when the cane snapped.

Lyric glared at Daniel. "Are you crazy? Just go!"

"I told you, I'm not leaving unless you come with me," Daniel said, his face pale but still managing a smile.

Then he collapsed to the ground.

Zephyr, seeing Lyric rush to Daniel's side, frowned and barked, "Go upstairs and rest!"

It was the first time Zephyr had spoken to her so harshly, and Lyric felt a surge of anger. Why couldn't they just talk things out calmly?

"Lyric, go to your room. Don't upset your father. He's only worried about you," Remy said, gently guiding Lyric upstairs.

Zephyr ordered the servants to throw Daniel out.

Despite his injuries, Daniel stood outside the villa.

He couldn't leave. If he did, Lyric would be lost to him forever, even though she wasn't his now.

He had hoped his past mistakes wouldn't come to light, but he knew he had to face the consequences eventually.

The snow fell harder, and he shivered from the cold, his injuries making it worse.

He knew he should go to the hospital, but he didn't.

From her bedroom window, Lyric could see him standing there, his body swaying.

Snowflakes landed on his head.

This fool, why didn't he go to the hospital?

His injuries were severe. Without treatment, it could be dangerous.

She saw him look up and meet her gaze.

He smiled at her, as if to say, "Lyric, don't worry. I'm strong. I'll be fine."

She couldn't understand how he could smile. Didn't it hurt?

At 2 AM, she grabbed a first aid kit and sneaked downstairs. The villa was quiet, with only the wall lights on. She sighed in relief.

She hurried outside, carrying the first aid kit, and rushed towards Daniel in the blizzard.

He was still standing there.

The snow blurred her vision, and the biting wind made her shiver.

She was wearing the black flats he had put on her.

She reached him and crouched down. He was so cold he was almost numb.

His eyes were closed, and he looked like he could collapse at any moment.

"Daniel, Daniel, wake up," she shook his arm.

His consciousness slowly returned, and he opened his eyes to see her. A look of surprise and joy crossed his face. "Lyric—"

She did care about him. He knew it. How could she just stop loving him? He was her first love.

"Let's get to the car. I'll treat your wounds."

"Okay."

"Can you stand?"

His legs were numb from standing. She helped him up, and they hurried to the car. She prayed silently, hoping her parents wouldn't catch them.

She opened the back door.

Daniel struggled into the car and lay down.

Lyric closed the door and opened the first aid kit. "I'll give you the medicine. You apply it yourself. Hurry, before my family finds out. It'll be worse for you."

"Are you worried about me, Lyric?" he teased, despite his pain.

Lyric glared at him and punched his back. "Shut up. I don't want anyone to die. Stop talking nonsense."

Daniel winced in pain, and she noticed her fist was stained with blood. His injuries were worse than she thought.

To save time, she decided to help him. If they were caught, she'd be in trouble too.

"Lie down. I'll treat your wounds," she reluctantly agreed.
