Chapter 474 Raymond, We Are Completely Finished

Two days later.

Margaret couldn't figure out why Daniel kept telling her to stay offline and avoid her phone. She had this nagging feeling that something was up.

It wasn't until a servant accidentally spilled the beans while bringing her coffee that she found out Raymond had gone to get engaged to Sarah.

The butler scolded the servant and tried to comfort Margaret. She put on a brave face, said she was fine, and took a quick sip of her coffee before heading upstairs.

The butler noticed something was off with Margaret and, worried something might happen, called Daniel.

In the bedroom, Margaret sat slumped on the carpet.

She held her phone, staring at the Facebook headlines, all about Raymond and Sarah's engagement.

Her first reaction was disbelief.

She clicked on it and saw that The Hughes Group had already released a promotional post.

Sarah's account, with a profile picture identical to hers, had shared the post and tagged Raymond's personal Facebook: [Honey, I'm ready for my engagement ring!]

In Margaret's memory, Raymond had always been low-key, never liking to expose their relationship to the public.

When they were dating, he never held her hand in public. He always kept his distance.

But Sarah was different.

Raymond had replied to that post: [There's an even bigger surprise waiting for you.]

The IP address was in Silverwood.

Were they getting engaged in Silverwood to avoid her interference?

The Facebook discussion had already reached over a hundred thousand comments.

Margaret read through them one by one.

[Ms. Hughes and Mr. Howard make a great couple.]

[Mr. Howard is so devoted. Even when The Hughes Family fell from grace, he stayed by her side.]

[I'm an employee at The Hughes Group. Let me tell you some gossip. Mr. Howard is very protective of Ms. Hughes. There was this fool who got plastic surgery to look like Ms. Hughes and tried to scam people. Mr. Howard threw her in jail and humiliated her in front of a bunch of reporters. It was so embarrassing.]

[Ms. Hughes has a bad aura. She might face some misfortune soon. Based on my years of studying metaphysics, Ms. Hughes is destined for a short life. She doesn't have the fate for great wealth. Mark my words, come back in a few days and see.]

Margaret spent hours reading through all the comments.

She never imagined that the wedding dress she had longed for would be worn by another woman, and the engagement ring she had dreamed of would be on someone else's finger.

All the things she had said and done, Raymond never believed her.

But she wanted to understand. She couldn't accept it.

She couldn't just let someone else take her place.

She wanted to hear Raymond's explanation.

She found his number, but then thought he wouldn't answer her call.

So she went downstairs, bought a new SIM card, and put it in her phone. Back in her bedroom, she dialed Raymond's number.

With her old number, she could never get through. But with the new SIM card, he answered.

"It's Margaret," she said, her voice trembling.

There was a lot of noise on the other end, like a party or a gathering.

Raymond didn't speak.

"Raymond, don't hang up. I need to ask you something. This is the last time I'll call you," Margaret pleaded, her voice trembling with fear that he might hang up.

"Hold on, I'll step outside to talk."

His familiar voice finally came through the receiver.

She hadn't heard his voice in so long, and it was so polite, without any hostility.

Margaret's eyes instantly welled up with tears.

Half a minute later.

"Are you okay?" Raymond asked, sounding concerned.

Margaret's tears flowed uncontrollably, but she tried to hold back, not wanting him to hear. "Raymond, are you really concerned about me?"

He didn't answer.

She held back her emotions, confused. "You care about me, right? You care about me, so how can you get engaged to another woman? Raymond, what are you thinking? Tell me, what are you thinking? I don't understand what I did wrong for you to treat me like this. Can't we talk about it? You must have your reasons, right? Raymond, you don't really want to marry Sarah, right?"

But Raymond remained silent.

Margaret broke down, crying. "Raymond, explain it to me. Just explain it to me. If you explain, if you say you have your reasons, I'll believe you. I won't be mad. I'm so sad, really sad. This is the last time I'll call you, the last chance I'm giving you. Raymond, if you don't explain and still get engaged to her, we're really over. The day I got out of the police station, I saw your car. But no matter how I called, you didn't show up. Raymond, were you there that day? And a few days ago, I fell, and I heard you call my name. But when I turned around, I couldn't find you."

She continued, "Raymond, say something! Explain! I'm waiting for a reasonable explanation! Don't be mad anymore, don't torture me anymore, okay? If you're still mad at the little mute, I can tell you, you are the little mute. Sarah embezzled the money I donated to you and took credit for my support. The person I've been looking for all along is you."

On the other end, Raymond was in a garden at a restaurant in Silverwood, smoking.

Hearing Margaret's sobs, he frowned with heartache.

He was about to comfort her and explain.

But then he saw Sarah approaching from a distance. Not wanting to alert her, he swallowed his words, lowered his voice, and deliberately sounded impatient. "Are you done?"

Margaret was stunned. "I'm done."

"Then I'll hang up. I'm busy and don't have time to listen to your nonsense."

His voice was as cold and indifferent as it could be.

Margaret cried out in anger. "Raymond, you won't even explain? Are you that impatient with me?"

"If you have delusions, please go to a mental hospital." Raymond replied.

"Raymond, we're over. Completely over. I won't forgive you," Margaret's voice was hoarse with anger, tears streaming down her face. "We're over."

In the past, if she got this angry, he would stop and make amends immediately.

But the Raymond on the phone was a stranger, cold and indifferent, politely saying, "We never started, ma'am. Go get your head checked."

"Raymond, who are you talking to?" Sarah's sweet voice came through the receiver, reaching Margaret's ears. They were together, so close.
