Chapter 300 You Can't Escape

"I laugh at you because your retribution is coming," Margaret sneered.

The smile on her lips was mocking and provocative.

Raymond saw her eyes sparkling like stars. Since Marlon's car accident, he hadn't seen her this happy.

Seeing his misfortune made her this happy.

Raymond held the wine glass in his hand and walked step by step towards Margaret. "Do you think tomorrow's trial will punish me?"

Similarly, Raymond's tone was playful, mocking, and indifferent. He didn't seem worried at all.

"Raymond, the law is strict and inescapable. You can't run away."

"Then let's wait and see." Raymond noticed Margaret's hair was messy.

He instinctively reached out his long fingers to help her tidy her hair.

Margaret disdainfully dodged. "Don't touch me with your dirty hands."

"After messing around with Joseph for a few days, I'm curious to see how capable you are tomorrow. I'll be in court myself to see how you send me to jail." Raymond wasn't angry; instead, he suddenly smirked, drank the wine in one gulp, and then heavily placed the glass on the coffee table.

Margaret was furious at his arrogant demeanor. "This is my parents' house. They don't welcome you here."

"Margaret, I hope you maintain this tough attitude tomorrow." Raymond picked up the suit jacket on the sofa, draped it over his arm, and squinted his eyes as he spoke before leaving.

The trial was tomorrow.

But Margaret suddenly felt an inexplicable panic, her eyelids twitching uncontrollably.

Why was Raymond so confident? He even hoped she would remain this stubborn tomorrow. Could he control the court proceedings?

Margaret felt uneasy, sensing that something was going to happen. But she didn't know what exactly.

She and Joseph had already organized the relevant materials. Everything had gone smoothly.

Margaret still called Joseph and expressed her concerns.

"Margaret, get some rest, and don't overthink. Please trust me." Joseph's voice on the phone reassured her.

Margaret asked again, "Joseph, you have no connection with Raymond, right?"

"Why are you asking this suddenly?" Joseph changed the subject.

Margaret remembered the day she discussed the case with Joseph. While she went to get the car, Joseph and Raymond had been chatting on the steps.

"I think your relationship with Raymond isn't that simple," Margaret speculated.

Joseph laughed. "We were schoolmates. We knew each other back then, so of course, we exchanged a few words when we met. It's only polite."

"So, you have no connection with Raymond, right?" Margaret wanted to confirm this point. "Joseph, please answer me directly. This is very important to me."

Joseph originally wanted to tell her that Raymond was the actual investor in his law firm, but Raymond didn't want Margaret to know this.

Joseph could only be vague. "Of course."

"That's good." Margaret breathed a sigh of relief and hung up.

It was good they had no connection; otherwise, there might be unexpected changes in court tomorrow.

Margaret couldn't sleep, tossing and turning.

She hadn't had trouble sleeping for a long time.

She was also afraid of taking sleeping pills and oversleeping. So she stayed awake until the next morning.

The trial was at ten o'clock.

She started putting on makeup at eight.

Margaret rarely wore makeup. She used to love dressing up, but after she met Raymond and successfully pursued him, he didn't like her dressing up too nicely, fearing other men would covet her.

To give him a sense of security, Margaret stopped wearing makeup.

But today was different. Today was the day she would face Raymond in court, and she wanted to be in her best spirits.

The previously sickly and lifeless Margaret saw herself in the mirror looking spirited and like a normal person, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

At nine-forty, Joseph texted her, saying the car was waiting downstairs.

Margaret replied, then packed a bottle of painkillers, and a thermos filled with hot water, into her backpack, put on sneakers, and left.

She saw Marlon's photo on the table.

She picked it up and touched Marlon's kind face. "Dad, I am going to seek justice for you now. Bless me, and let everything go smoothly."

Joseph saw Margaret get into the car and was surprised by her appearance today.

"What? Is it strange?" Margaret asked, puzzled.

Joseph shook his head. "No, you look great. It feels like the college version of Ms. Hughes is back. No wonder Raymond fell for you."

Such a beautiful girl, anyone she pursued would likely fall for her.

The car reached the courthouse in ten minutes.

Margaret saw a crowd of reporters and media blocking the courthouse entrance.

Cameras were pressed against the glass windows.

Margaret was startled by the scene.

"Don't be afraid. They're just after the news," Joseph said nonchalantly, unbuckling his seatbelt.

Margaret asked, "Has Raymond arrived?"

She remembered he said he would be in court today.

Joseph was about to speak when a Maserati sped up and smoothly parked next to their car.

"Here he is. Margaret, don't rush out. There are too many media people. Wait for me to open the door and escort you in," Joseph suggested.

Margaret was also worried about a stampede. There were too many people, more than she had imagined.

Margaret thanked him, and Joseph smiled, saying they were schoolmates, so no need to be polite.

Then Joseph opened the car door and got out.

Joseph saw Alvin, dressed in a suit, opening the Maserati's door.

Alvin stood by the car door.

Raymond, wearing a black coat, black leather gloves, a black hat, and black sunglasses, exuded a powerful aura.

The media swarmed around Raymond, frantically taking pictures. "Mr. Howard, it's said Mrs. Howard is accusing you of killing her father. How do you explain this?"

"The Hughes Group's stock keeps falling. What's your response to this?"

"What are your chances of winning today's trial?"

Raymond, accompanied by Alvin and a lawyer with a briefcase, didn't answer any questions. He glanced at Joseph standing by a BMW.

Joseph signaled to him.

Raymond noticed a group of reporters surrounding the BMW, blocking Margaret from getting out.

Raymond smirked and quickly walked to the BMW, seeing her sitting in the passenger seat. Raymond felt a flash of displeasure. Did Margaret not know her status? The passenger seat wasn't for just anyone.

But he didn't show it, and with a blank expression, he opened the passenger door.
