Chapter 544 Older Men Are More Caring
Dinner was with friends at a restaurant where the average bill was in the seven figures.
Lyric wasn't in a good mood, so she rented out the entire floor of the restaurant. She didn't want anyone to see her in a vulnerable state, even though most of the diners wouldn't recognize her.
The table was filled with her favorite foods, but she had no appetite.
Lyric had changed out of her work clothes and was now dressed in luxurious, expensive attire, clearly showing she came from a wealthy family.
Thinking about Daniel's rejection earlier that day, she gritted her teeth and asked her friend across the table, "Am I really that bad? He actually told me to spend some money on nice clothes and spruce myself up. Is he that shallow?"
"Lyric, why don't you just buy some nice clothes and flaunt them in front of him?" her friend suggested.
"No need. I've already made up my mind," Lyric replied with a cold smile.
Her friend looked puzzled. "Made up your mind about what?"
"I'm quitting my job and I'm done chasing him. What happened the other night, I'll just consider it a dog bite."
"Are you serious? You've liked him for so long, and now you're just going to let it go?" her friend asked, incredulous.
Lyric smirked, taking a sip of water. "I'm the only daughter of the richest man in Regal City. I've seen plenty of men trying to win my favor. I don't need to stoop so low to impress him. He's made it clear I'm not his type. Staying any longer would just make me look desperate."
"So, are you going back to Regal City? To meet the guy your parents set you up with?"
"Meeting him won't hurt."
"Wow, just a few days ago, you were all about finding true love. Now you're moving on so quickly?"
"My love life might be dead, perhaps I can find it elsewhere. It's called cutting your losses. I only like men who like me back. Daniel doesn't appreciate me, that's his loss. I'm not going to degrade myself for him. Who does he think he is?"
Lyric fumed, "After dinner, let's go shopping. Retail therapy is the best cure for a bad mood."
Her friend said, "Okay!"
After dinner.
At the mall.
Lyric and her best friend walked in.
A sales associate followed them, offering assistance.
A serene and beautiful woman was also browsing the store.
The clothes in this store were elegant and not too expensive, but very ladylike.
Lyric didn't like this style; she preferred comfortable clothes over ladylike ones.
A man finished his phone call and entered the store, wrapping his arm around the beautiful woman's waist and talking to her. Lyric recognized him from his profile. "Walter?"
He turned at the sound of her voice, looking at Lyric and her friend.
Walter had never seen Lyric dressed like this and was surprised. "Ms. Vaughn, you look great in that outfit."
"Really? My friend gave it to me. She's very generous," Lyric said, nudging her friend and laughing awkwardly.
Her friend caught on and coughed a few times. "We're close, and it's just a dress."
Walter glanced at Lyric's friend, thinking Lyric was lucky to have such a good friend despite her ordinary looks and modest family background.
As they were leaving, Walter mentioned, "Mr. Taylor actually likes the women's clothes from this store."
Because Margaret liked this brand. The Hughes Family had fallen on hard times, so her clothes weren't expensive but were very tasteful.
Walter wanted to set her up with Daniel, hoping Daniel would stop pining for Margaret.
After he left, Lyric stared at the clothes in the store for a long time. So, Daniel liked this brand.
She had the sales associate gather all the clothes she liked and spent three million dollars in one go.
Her friend followed her out of the store, puzzled. "Why did you buy so many clothes? This isn't your style or brand. The outfit you're wearing now is worth more than everything in that store combined."
"I've decided. Starting tomorrow, I'll wear these clothes to work. A different one every day, no repeats," Lyric said, taking off her sunglasses and looking at her friend. "Oh, and arrange for a suitor to send me flowers and confess his love every day."
Her friend laughed. "So, you're using reverse psychology to provoke Daniel? Do you think it'll work?"
"I've changed my mind. Quitting in disgrace isn't my style. When he confesses to me, I'll reject him and tell him that he is not my type."
"That's quite vengeful."
"It's called getting back up where you fell, okay?"
"Got it. The guy has to be tall, handsome, and come from a good family. Understand? No slip-ups. I'm Della," Lyric emphasized repeatedly.
Her friend patted her shoulder. "Got it. Leave it to me. I'll make sure your suitor is so handsome, he'll shock everyone at The Taylor Group."
"Okay." Lyric was satisfied, having eaten well and gathered useful information.
Her phone suddenly rang.
She answered it.
It was Remy again, starting with small talk about how she was doing and if work was tiring, before getting to the point. "Lyric, how are things going with the guy you like? Can you bring him home to meet your dad and me?"
Lyric sighed, looking at the bustling crowd below in the mall. "Mom, can we change the subject?"
"Did he upset you? What's wrong with him? We can't even pamper you enough, and he dares to make you unhappy? Lyric, why don't you just come back? And meet the guy we introduced to you. He's a bit older, but we don't think that's a problem. Older men are more caring."
"Not necessarily. Older men can be worse," Lyric thought of Daniel, who was ten years older than her. He wasn't caring at all.
Clearly, the idea that older men are more caring was a misconception.
"You haven't even met him, how can you be so sure? His family said they want to meet you. When can you come back?"
"Mom, if I meet him, will you and Dad be happy?" Lyric sighed.
