Chapter 430 Margaret, You Are the Only Woman I Have Ever Touched

"There's also the issue with Evelyn. I ended our partnership because she tried to seduce me and made fun of you, saying you and Joseph were a thing. I wanted her to apologize to you, to make you happy. But I screwed up. I never thought she'd kidnap you, and she did it twice."

"And then there's Sarah. Margaret, I never touched her, not even once. The only woman I've ever been with is you."

"As for making you take those pills, wanting you to have a baby, it was because I was jealous and insecure. You and Daniel seemed too close, and it drove me crazy. But no matter how mad I got, I never wanted to let you go! The Raymond you see is harsh, always forcing kisses on you, threatening you, intimidating you! But that's not the real me. The real Raymond is just a paper tiger, all bark and no bite! The real Raymond is fragile, he gets hurt by a cold look from you, a single impatient word, and it stays with him for a long, long time!"

"I am so insecure! I was desperate enough to try to force you to get pregnant, to keep you! To save our marriage! To bring our relationship back to how it was when we first got married!"

"I used the wrong methods! Wrong is wrong, no matter what my intentions or motivations were!"

Raymond's eyes were bloodshot, and large tears fell uncontrollably.

They landed on her cheek.

He choked out, "Margaret, these past few days have been so hard for me! So, so hard! So many times, I wanted to tell you, I've been diagnosed with late-stage leukemia! I only have about six months left to live!"

But Margaret remained completely still.

"I'm not lying! I really don't have much time left! Margaret, the thing you wanted most has happened! I'm getting my comeuppance! Open your eyes and look at me, please!"

"Margaret!"

"Margaret! Wake up! If you wake up, I'll disappear from your life willingly! I won't bother you anymore! I won't torment you anymore!"

He thought, 'But I will always love you!'

His voice trembled, filled with pleading, helplessness, and despair.

In the past, if Margaret had seen him this upset, this heartbroken, she wouldn't have been able to keep up the act.

But now...

Raymond collapsed completely onto the cold floor, tears streaming down his face.

Why, after all his promises, after saying so much, was she still not reacting?

Was she still angry?

His throat was already hoarse, and Margaret was clearly cold to the touch.

But he still refused to believe she was dead.

Even if she really was dead, there had to be a way to bring her back to life.

He wasn't just anyone; he was Raymond!

He wiped the moisture from his face with his rough fingertips, regaining his composure and calm.

He couldn't give up.

Back when he was in the ICU and everyone thought he was a goner, it was Margaret who didn't give up on him, who prayed for him.

At the end of science was mysticism. It sounded absurd, but wasn't that how he woke up back then?

Raymond thought of this and used one hand to push himself up from the floor, bit by bit.

He walked quickly to the door and yanked it open.

Light flooded in unexpectedly, and Raymond, accustomed to the darkness, shielded his eyes.

"Mr. Howard, you're out!" Alvin exclaimed, surprised. He hadn't expected Raymond to accept Margaret's death so quickly.

Raymond's face was still streaked with tears, his expression tense. He ordered, "Get Margaret out of here. She hates the cold and the dark; she wouldn't like this place."

Alvin's eyelid twitched, but he bravely asked, "Should we take Mrs. Howard home? Or to the crematorium?"

Raymond's sharp gaze cut into Alvin. "Take her back to the ICU! Continue resuscitation!"

"But..." Alvin was dumbfounded. She was already gone, how could they continue resuscitation?

Raymond added, "I'll contact Mr. Jones and see if he can help."

A few staff members, directed by Alvin, moved Margaret from the morgue, took the patient elevator, and returned to the ICU. A bunch of machines were placed around her, beeping and working. But the heart monitor showed a flat line, no movement at all.

A young nurse couldn't help but complain, "There's no point in resuscitating, there's no heartbeat at all."

"Just do what you're told. Do you think you can understand the mind of a big shot? If you did, you'd be one too," the head nurse, wearing a mask, scolded the intern.

Alvin watched from the side, hearing their words, he just sighed and shook his head. Then he walked to the end of the hallway.

At the end of the hallway stood a figure in a black suit, on the phone. The white light from the ceiling cast a lonely, desolate shadow.

Raymond held the phone, looking at the snowflakes falling outside, his eyes filled with sorrow.

"Mr. Howard, as far as I know, Mr. Jones is currently attending a conference in Aquilonia. He probably won't have time to help your friend with surgery," Daniel's voice was cold. He added, "But I can ask. No guarantees."

"Thank you."

Raymond hung up, and Alvin approached him. "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard has been moved back to the ICU. We're just waiting on Mr. Jones."

Half an hour later, Daniel replied on WhatsApp: [Mr. Jones declined.]

[Can you help?] Raymond asked on WhatsApp.

There was no response.

Raymond assumed he didn't want to help and didn't ask again.

Alvin rubbed his nose, looking at him uneasily. "Mr. Howard, what should we do now?"

"Which church did Margaret pray at back then?"

"Everpeak Mountain. Mr. Howard, are you planning to do what Mrs. Howard did?" Alvin quickly caught on, suddenly looking at Raymond in shock. "Mr. Howard, are you sick?"

As he said this, Raymond felt something wet. He wiped the blood from under his nose with the back of his hand, then quickly went to the sink to wash it off.

Alvin was worried, but Raymond remained calm, as if it was nothing new.

"Mr. Howard, I really think you should get checked out. With Mrs. Howard like this, you can't neglect your own health," Alvin said for the second time.

Raymond grabbed a paper towel, dried his hands, and looked at himself in the mirror. The nosebleed had stopped. He looked up, his cold eyes on Alvin. "Without my orders, Margaret stays in the ICU. Everyone in the hospital must do their best to save her!"

"Should I drive you?"

"No need. Stay here and keep an eye on the hospital staff."

"Don't worry, Mr. Howard. I'll personally oversee all of Mrs. Howard's medications, fluids, and equipment. You can go without worry."
