Chapter 603 You Will Definitely Become Popular
"But I still gotta make money. If I don't work, I'll starve. Kids like me, who don't have anyone to lean on, have to hustle to survive," Nia sighed, sitting on the hospital bed.
She couldn't help it; her family situation wasn't great. She wasn't any less capable than others, but she lost out due to her background and lack of connections. Other girls with better luck either had family paving the way for them, landing them in fast-track careers right after college, or they met a good boyfriend and married well, changing their fate.
At twenty-five, Nia had long given up on the unrealistic dream of some rich, foolish guy falling for her. Walter was right; girls like her could only improve their skills and use them as leverage to change their fate and escape the clutches of their original families.
The nurse was taken aback by Nia's words and then asked, "So, you're getting plastic surgery to become an influencer, right?"
"Yeah," Nia nodded.
The nurse, perhaps inspired by Nia's determination, cheered her on, "Go for it, future superstar! With your hard work, you'll definitely strike it rich!"
"Thanks, let's all get rich together," Nia replied with a smile.
During her month at the plastic surgery clinic, Nia was either working or preparing for work. She ate while looking at her computer, and as soon as she opened her eyes, there was an endless stream of tasks waiting for her.
Walter hadn't updated her on whether he found a co-host, and she wisely didn't ask again.
Even her time for ordering takeout and going to the bathroom was squeezed out.
Seeing her work so hard, the nurse was a bit worried, "You're still in recovery. If you push yourself too hard, your face might not heal properly. If that happens, the hospital won't cover it, and you'll have to fix it yourself. That would be considered self-inflicted damage."
Nia was a bit scared by this but reassured herself, "I won't be that unlucky."
"Well, good luck then, future superstar," the nurse said, unsure how else to persuade her since nothing seemed to work.
A month flew by in the blink of an eye.
Fortunately, her work didn't give Walter any reason to criticize her. The month-long leave passed peacefully.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
The nurse informed her that it was time to remove the bandages and see the results of her surgery.
Nia was so excited she couldn't sleep all night. She was both eager and anxious, wondering if her two million dollars had been well spent and if she looked beautiful now.
She even fantasized about becoming a top influencer, with money pouring in until her fingers cramped from counting it.
But she also worried that the nurse's prediction might come true and her face might have been ruined by the intense work. She didn't have the money to fix it if that happened.
She spent the long night in restless anticipation.
The next morning, the nurse took her to see the clinic's director.
The director greeted her with a smile, "We meet again. Ready for your transformation? Take a deep breath. Once you're ready, we'll remove the stitches."
Nia, who had been calm, felt a surge of anxiety at his words.
She took a deep breath.
"Go ahead."
Whatever the outcome, she had to face it.
The director carefully removed the bandages from her face, bit by bit.
In front of Nia was a table with a mirror on it.
She saw her reflection, revealing a smooth forehead.
Her double eyelids looked very natural, and her straight eyebrows were quite effective.
Her previously flat nose was now more defined, thanks to the ear cartilage used to enhance it.
Her entire nose was now petite and upright.
Her lips had been filled, making them look sexy, and a slight smile gave her a mysterious allure.
Her cheekbones were gone.
Her once round face now had a delicate, heart-shaped contour. Her chin was perfectly proportioned, not too sharp.
With all the bandages removed, the director crossed his arms, satisfied, "It's exactly as I designed. You're my best work."
"Let me take a picture so you can see how photogenic you are!" The nurse's eyes sparkled with admiration.
Nia turned towards the nurse, eager to see the result.
The nurse casually snapped a photo with her phone and handed it to Nia, "Look at this. It's taken with the front camera. You look stunning from every angle."
Nia stared at the photo for a long time, stunned. Was this really her?
"Yes, it's you. Quite a transformation, right? When you go back to work, if you don't tell anyone, they won't recognize you."
The nurse then showed her a before-and-after comparison, "Look at your old photo. Isn't it completely different? We enhanced all your good features and minimized the flaws."
Nia thanked them repeatedly. It was true.
The two million dollars she spent on the surgery was worth it, unlike a ten-thousand-dollar job.
She had felt the pinch when paying, but now she felt it was worth every penny.
Honestly, she had always been insecure, feeling she had no standout features and was just average-looking, except for her figure.
But now, there were plenty of people with good figures.
This new appearance gave her confidence, the courage to hold her head high, and the strength to ask Walter for the co-host position.
After completing the discharge procedures, the nurse, reluctant to see her go, took a photo with her and asked for her autograph, "Can you sign this for me? If you become famous, I can say you're my friend."
"It's not that easy to become famous. Don't tease me," Nia waved her hand, though she was aware of her limitations.
Self-deprecation was one thing, but hearing it from others was different.
The nurse smiled, "Believe me, hard-working people shine wherever they go. You'll definitely make it big."
Nia felt a warm sense of encouragement from the nurse's words.
She took the pen and signed her name.
"Nia, that's a nice name," the nurse commented, looking at the notebook.
Nia smiled.
The nurse, with her sweet talk, said, "Future superstar, you better make it big. When you do, come back and save me. I'll come work for you. Don't forget me then."
"Sure, but until I make it, you keep working hard here and shine bright," Nia said earnestly.
She was the first person to believe she would make a lot of money and succeed. People around her only mocked and discouraged her. Strangers, however, offered encouragement and support.
As she left, Nia sincerely patted the nurse's shoulder and said, "We'll both get rich. Keep going."
