Chapter 102 Where was the person

At seven in the morning, James quickly freshened up, changed into new clothes, and then carried breakfast into the hospital.

When he arrived at Mary's ward, James was slightly taken aback to find Joseph and Emily inside.

At the same time, his mother-in-law Addison and father-in-law Charles hurriedly walked down the corridor.

"James, what's going on? Why is Mary in the hospital? And why did she need her stomach pumped? You haven't been home for the past two days. Where have you been?" Addison was very anxious, rushing into the ward while sternly questioning James.

"James, what on earth is going on? Say something!" Charles also shouted angrily at James, "Are you mute?"

Addison ran to the bedside, constantly stroking Mary's pretty face, looking worried that something might have happened to her.

James glanced over. Mary's face was a bit pale, but her breathing and heartbeat were steady. Excessive fatigue had kept her from waking up.

James relaxed and then softly explained, "She drank a bit too much while meeting a client last night."

"Shut up!" Joseph rudely interrupted James, "At a time like this, you're still lying! You truly are a master of deceit. With all these lies, do you think you're being fair to Mary?"

Joseph righteously scolded James, "Are you worthy of our trust?"

Addison's face turned grim. "Joseph, tell me, what exactly is going on?"

"Auntie Addison, let my sister explain." Joseph shook his head. "So James won't say I'm sowing discord and then beat me up in a fit of rage."

Charles shouted sternly, "He daren't!"

James frowned slightly, not knowing what Joseph was up to.

Emily said, "Uncle Charles and Auntie Addison, here's the situation. James defrauded Joseph the day before yesterday, didn't show any respect to Mary, and demanded fifteen million dollars in compensation, even using Jacob to pressure us."

Emily explained the fraud to Addison and Charles, causing Addison to exclaim, "Fifteen million dollars! That's ruthless!"

Charles sternly asked James, "James, is this true?"

James replied calmly, "It's true, but it's not fraud. It's reasonable compensation."

"Stop lying!" Addison raised his eyebrows and scolded, "Where did you get that sculpture? Do you think we would believe that you have an antique worth over fifteen million dollars? Using such despicable means out of jealousy, James, you're really despicable."

She was exasperated. "How did I not see your bad side before?"

"Mary is well-mannered and can't stand such unethical behavior." Emily continued to fan the flames. "She earnestly advised James, but he wouldn't listen, making Mary very sad. Last night, she went to discuss business with Jesse, feeling troubled and was drugged and drunk by Jesse. Mary's secretary Isabella noticed something was wrong and called James for help, but James completely ignored it."

Emily added. "Joseph got the news and drove over to rescue Mary from Jesse. Look, Joseph still has a bruise from Jesse's bodyguard."

She pointed to a bruise on Joseph's face, seeking credit.

"Bastard!"

Hearing Emily's words, Addison was instantly furious, not verifying anything, and slapped James. "I tell you, if anything happens to my daughter, I'll make you pay with your life."

James reached out with his left hand and grabbed Addison's hand. "Mom, it's not like she said."

"Not like she said! Then what is it like?" Addison repeatedly shouted, her questions piercing like arrows, "Is the fifteen million dollars not true? Is Mary's worry for you not true? Is it not true that she almost got herself into danger? If it weren't for you upsetting her, would she be troubled enough to drink? She never drank when discussing business before. Can you say you bear no responsibility? Mary has been so devoted to you; she even bought you a Rolex, and you made her this upset. Do you have a conscience?"

Charles was also furious. "Let go. Why are you grabbing Addison's hand? Are you going to hit her?"

James let go of Addison's hand, sighing inwardly, knowing he did bear some responsibility.

"Loser."

Addison was so angry that her blood pressure spiked, clutching her chest and staggering a few steps.

"Auntie Addison, are you okay?" Joseph quickly helped Addison sit down. "Auntie Addison, don't worry. Mary is fine; she'll be okay when she wakes up."

Addison said, "Joseph, thank goodness you saved her. If something happened to Mary, we wouldn't want to live either."

Addison calmed down a bit, then still pointed at James and scolded, "Get out! I want Mary to divorce you! I was really blind to let you be a live-in son-in-law. Get out, get out!" She didn't want to see James. "Get out of my face now!"

James remained indifferent. "Dad, Mom, I do bear some responsibility for what happened to Mary, but don't worry, she will never be hurt again."

"Never be hurt again?" Emily snorted coldly, "When Mary called for help, you were too scared to face danger, and you say she won't be hurt again?"

Charles scolded harshly, "Can't even protect your own woman, really useless."

James looked at Emily and sneered, "Who rescued Mary from Jesse, don't you know?"

"If it wasn't Joseph, was it you? Do you have the ability to compete with Jesse?" Emily's heart skipped a beat at these words, and she pointed at James's nose. "Are you saying you rescued Mary?"

Charles reprimanded James, "James, just admit it. Don't try to add value to yourself."

James spoke calmly, "Ask Isabella who rescued her. She knows best."

"Get out. I don't want to see you or hear you speak again." Addison pointed to the door and shouted, "Get out."

Joseph took out a check, quickly wrote one, then tore it off and handed it to James, "Fifteen million dollars, compensation, don't bother Mary again."

Addison rushed up, grabbed the check, tore it in half, and shouted, "We'll pay for Joseph's debt, . If you want fifteen million dollars, come to us."

Addison righteously declared, "The Smith family is grateful and will never let our savior suffer such loss ."

Charles also raised his head. "Yes, if you want to collect a debt, come to us. If you have the guts, kill us. Did you hear? Get out now?"

James was about to speak when Joseph rushed up and pushed James towards the door. "You heard them? Are you trying to drive them crazy?"

Seeing Charles and Addison's furious faces, James gave up on explaining, believing Isabella would tell them the truth.

He turned and left the ward.

Five minutes later, James appeared at the back door of the hospital.

In the morning breeze, six Hummers lined up, exuding a metallic chill.

In the middle vehicle, Jacob, in a trench coat, opened the car door respectfully.

James spoke calmly, "Where is the person?"

"TranquilTea Haven!"
