Chapter 290 The Unknown Terrifying Presence

Olivia, who was having an intimate moment with James, froze when she heard the noise outside the door.

She let out a low cry as if she had been caught, and then pushed James away.

While scrambling to put on her clothes, she urged James to hide.

James glanced at the security door, "It's just your mom. Why are you so panicked?"

"Hurry, hide! If she sees you, I'm done for." Knowing how difficult her mother could be, Olivia hurriedly urged James to hide.

But to her dismay, the room was too small and lacked clutter, leaving no place to hide.

"In this situation, the more you hide, the worse it looks. It's better to face her openly." James showed no intention of hiding. "Even if we're just friends for now, it's normal for a couple to live together before marriage."

Olivia pinched James's waist in frustration, "It'll cause a lot of trouble."

Outside, a stern voice called out again, "Olivia, I know you're in there. Open the door immediately, or I'll have Debra break it down."

Olivia's face turned bright red as she anxiously paced around.

James chuckled and walked straight to the door, opening it wide.

Olivia let out a small cry, thinking it was all over.

There were several men and women, looking travel-worn, as if they had just arrived in Rosewood City.

At the front of the group was a woman in her fifties, adorned with jewelry and exuding elegance and grace.

Her face was cold yet alluring, her figure voluptuous, and her hair was styled in an elaborate updo.

She bore a striking resemblance to Olivia.

Beside her was an elderly woman in gray, who appeared meek but whom James knew was not to be trifled with.

"Hello, Mr. Lee!"

"Mom!"

James and Olivia greeted simultaneously.

Seeing a man in Olivia's single apartment, Patricia's eyes flashed with cold anger, and her voice deepened, "Olivia, who is he?"

Seeing Olivia's barely covered body and semi-transparent clothes, Patricia wanted to strangle James.

Olivia, who had been hiding James's existence, forced a smile and replied, "He's a doctor. I wasn't feeling well, and he came to check on me."

"A doctor? At this hour?"

Patricia's face darkened, "You called a young male doctor to your apartment late at night? Do you think I'll believe that? And you took so long to open the door. You must be hiding something."

She demanded, "Tell me the truth, who is he?"

Patricia stared daggers at James, and if looks could kill, he would have been shredded to pieces.

Olivia, dry-mouthed, tried to explain, "Mom, he..."

"Ms. Lee, Olivia is actually telling the truth. I am a doctor." James smiled confidently, "But I am also her boyfriend. She was sick today, so I came to check on her."

"I don't live here. If you don't believe me, you can check the room, you won't find any of my belongings." Realizing there was no way to hide it, he decided to be straightforward.

Patricia's voice turned sharp as she berated Olivia, "How dare you have a boyfriend? Have you forgotten that I've already promised you to the Gonzalez Family? If the Gonzalez Family finds out, how am I supposed to explain this to them? You promised me you'd come to Rosewood City to work hard, and after that, you'd follow my arrangements for marriage. Now you've taken the money, had your fun, and you're telling me you have a boyfriend?"

Patricia demanded, "Olivia, you owe me an explanation."

"James is my boyfriend."Olivia shook her head without hesitation, "I never agreed to let you arrange my marriage. I only allowed you to help me find someone, but the final decision is mine."

She stood her ground, "Mom, I'll pay you back a hundred times the money, but I won't marry Micah Gonzalez."

"Shut up!" Patricia interrupted Olivia without mercy, "I'm your mother. You have no right to negotiate with me."

"And the Lee family is in trouble now. Your grandfather is seriously ill, the Gonzalez Family can help. ""As a member of the Lee family, you've enjoyed the benefits, so you should bear the responsibilities. When the family was thriving, I didn't mind you flying free, but in times of crisis, everyone must fly in the same direction. So whether you want to marry Micah or not, as long as your grandfather and I agree, you must comply unconditionally. " Patricia's tone was stern and unquestionable.

James noticed that the usually stubborn Olivia had lowered her head.

A few tears fell.

Olivia had tried to be free, but being born into a wealthy family meant she was destined to be a sacrificial pawn.

Patricia was indifferent, "Don't cry in front of me. Tears are too cheap. I came to Rosewood City today to personally tell you that Micah has agreed to marry you. You must marry him before the New Year next year."

Her tone was commanding, "So you need to come back with me this time."

Olivia's body trembled. Her happy days were over, and she felt like she would become a walking corpse.

She even regretted not making love to James sooner, so she could have had a few sweet days.

"There's nothing worth staying for in Rosewood City, and the men here are even less worth your attention." Patricia said arrogantly, "Only someone like Micah is worth your tears."

Olivia felt powerless, as if she had resigned herself to her fate.

Most importantly, she didn't want to drag James into this mess. The Lee family and the Gonzalez Family were just as domineering as the Morris Family and the Howard Family.

She didn't want James, who had just overcome his own difficulties, to face new risks because of her.

"Ms. Lee, have you asked me, her boyfriend, if you want to take Olivia away?" At that moment, James wrapped his arm around Olivia, "As far as I'm concerned, if Olivia doesn't want to go, no one can make her."

Patricia's face changed upon hearing this. She had deliberately ignored him, but James had stepped forward on his own.

In her original plan, even if James wasn't groveling and listening to her scolding, he would at least be afraid to speak up.

She didn't expect him to confront her directly, which made her annoyed.

Patricia took out a pen and wrote a number on a check.

"Whether you're Olivia's doctor or her boyfriend, I appreciate you taking care of her. This is a token of my gratitude as her mother." She handed the check to James, then her tone suddenly turned icy, exuding an irresistible aura. "Now, get out of Olivia's life immediately."

Patricia's face turned cold, "Who do you think you are? Trying to get close to my daughter."

She scolded him without mercy.

James smiled faintly, "Olivia and I are a match made in heaven."

Hearing this, Patricia didn't laugh but instead showed a look of disdain, as if she was disgusted by his flippant attitude.

"I warn you, don't pester my daughter anymore. You're not worthy of her, nor do you have the right to love her. And she is already engaged. I don't want her to be the subject of gossip." Patricia exuded a powerful aura. "She and Micah will be getting married soon. If you ruin this engagement or cause any trouble, I won't let you off. Take this $200,000 and get out of my daughter's life."

She would not allow anyone to ruin Olivia's arranged marriage.

She also looked down on James's cheap clothes, thinking Olivia must be out of her mind to be interested in such a loser.

The elderly woman in gray behind her also looked at James with cold eyes, clearly disliking his calm demeanor.

A loser acted as if he had immense power, wasn't that just asking for trouble?

"I'll say this one last time." James looked at Patricia and said, "If Olivia doesn't want to leave, no one can take her."

Patricia's eyes turned even more mocking. Initially worried that James might ruin the engagement, she now completely looked down on him.

In her opinion, those who are born into humble beginnings, start from the bottom, and yet are prone to self-importance will never amount to anything in their lifetime.

Patricia sneered, "Young man, we are a terror you can't even imagine."

Before she could finish, James tore up the check.

"You ignorant boy, how dare you tear up Ms. Lee's check?" The elderly woman in gray was furious.

She found James's overconfidence increasingly laughable!

She struck at James with her palm.

Olivia instinctively shouted, "Debra, don't!"

Patricia held Olivia back, coldly watching James get taught a lesson.

James kicked at Debra.

It was fast and fierce.

Debra's face changed, and she crossed her arms to block James's kick.

With a loud bang, the force was overwhelming.

Debra's knuckles ached, and she took six steps back, crashing into the hallway wall.

The tiles cracked like a spider web.

She was shocked.
