Chapter 136 We Can Really Afford It

The car was speeding, and in less than half an hour, James appeared at the Peach Blossom Island sales center.

In recent years, the internet had developed steadily, and the Thompson Group bought a small island to develop.

Surrounded by water, the island was filled with peach blossoms.

When the wind blew, the falling petals created a stunning and picturesque scene, and people called it a paradise.

The starting price for houses and villas on Peach Blossom Island was $15,619,800, making it one of the most exclusive wealthy areas in Rosewood City. Most importantly, Andrew also lived on the island.

He even established Peach Blossom University on the island, enrolling a large number of young entrepreneurs each year for networking and learning, essentially expanding their connections.

So, Peach Blossom Island was very popular.

The Thompson Group was very wealthy. Not only was the sales hall extremely luxurious, but the sales staff were also all fair-skinned, beautiful, and long-legged.

James walked into the hall, momentarily dazzled by the row of long legs, but he still managed to spot Mary and a few others.

Mary, Alice, and Lydia.

He ran over and greeted, "Mary."

Mary glanced at him with a complex expression, then pursed her lips. "You're here? Wait a bit longer."

"Hey, James!" At this moment, Alice, wearing a red coat, tilted her head and scolded James with a stern face, "Just a few days without seeing you, and you're still the same."

"Not even a greeting when you see us?"

"Are you blind?"

Her mouth was as venomous as ever.

Last time at Thousand Treasures Corporation, Alice was humiliated by James, and she was humiliated, which made her hate James to the core.

She didn't go to the Smith Family villa to scold him at the time because she was worried about being mocked by Addison and the others.

Now that her relationship with Addison had improved and they were doing business together, she naturally started to quarrel with James again.

A man next to her also looked at James with interest, his face full of mockery and ridicule, seemingly aware of James's status as a son-in-law living with his wife's family.

Lydia glared at James with wide eyes.

The reason she was safe was that Andrew and Mrs. Thompson only cared about Gabriella. After slapping her a few times, they were busy finding a doctor to save their daughter.

Although Lydia was temporarily detained after James saved Gabriella, Andrew knew she was Mary's sister and didn't make things difficult for her.

Andrew didn't even take back the check.

So, Lydia not only remained unscathed but also made a lot of money, which made her consider herself wealthy and look down on James with both hatred and contempt.

James nodded indifferently. "Hello, Aunt, hello, Lydia."

He also glanced at the man, who looked to be in his twenties, wearing a suit, and full of vigor.

Although he looked decent, his eyes occasionally glanced at Mary's legs, flashing with a man's desire and interest.

James frowned slightly and stood in front of Mary to block the man's view.

Alice said, "This is my future son-in-law, Morris Nathan. You should call him Mr. Nathan."

Alice had no good attitude toward James, especially knowing that James had a good relationship with Taylor. She was even more disdainful because of Olivia.

She continued, "Young people should be more polite, or they won't even have a chance to do manual labor in the future."

James's eyes narrowed slightly. "Manual labor is fine, but one must be honest and abide by the law, or it will harm others and oneself."

Alice's face changed upon hearing this, feeling that James was implying something.

"Bastard, what do you mean? Are you saying I'm breaking the law? What have I done to harm others and myself?"

She appeared aggressive on the surface, but there was a trace of unease in her heart. However, she felt that James couldn't possibly know what she had done, as she had been very discreet.

"Nothing." James smiled meaningfully. "I'm just reminding myself that it's okay to do foolish things, but not bad things, and definitely not to harm those around me."

Alice's voice deepened. "Make yourself clear!"

"Mom, why are you arguing with a loser?" Lydia impatiently interrupted her mother. "Isn't this a waste of time?"

She was full of hostility toward James, thinking that he almost got her imprisoned. If it weren't for him reviving someone at the car accident scene, how could she have sought credit?

If she hadn't sought credit, she wouldn't have almost killed Gabriella, and she wouldn't have been beaten by Mrs. Thompson and taken to the police station.

Lydia blamed all her misfortunes on James. As for how she got out safely and even got $1,562,500, she didn't bother to think about it.

Hearing Lydia scold James like this, Mary frowned. "Lydia, how can you talk like that?"

Lydia glanced at Mary, saying, "Mary, you too. We asked you to come help us choose a house, but the real purpose was to let you see high society. And you brought James along. What is this?"

"Everyone here is wealthy. Don't you think James, a loser, is out of place here?"

She looked at James with great disdain, displeased about being seen with him.

James then realized that the Moore family mother and daughter were here to buy a house, and it was a high-end property like Peach Blossom Island. It seemed they had really latched onto a wealthy person.

But judging by Nathan's appearance, he was probably being fooled.

Hearing Lydia's words, Mary was stunned; then her face turned cold.

"Lydia, this is a public place, anyone can come. I'm here with you because we're relatives. Even though we're not very wealthy, I won't lose face to see high society."

She pulled James and said, "If you don't like us, we won't follow you."

Lydia snorted, "It's my mom who values family ties and wants you to see the wealthy circle. Do you really think you can give us advice?"

"The houses here are top-notch villas. What advice can you give, living in an old-style house? Don't you know your own situation?"

She and her mother brought Mary to buy a house to show off.

After all, if you don't flaunt unexpected wealth, what's the point?

But unexpectedly, after Mary came, the rich kid Nathan kept approaching her, his eyes lighting up from time to time.

Lydia didn't dare to get angry at Nathan, so she could only vent on Mary.

Mary was almost furious. "Why would I want to see the wealthy circle? If it weren't for you insisting I come, I wouldn't have come."

"Wouldn't come? Or can't afford to come?"

"The houses here are about $1,562 per square foot, one set is worth three of The Smith Family's."

Lydia looked at James and Mary with great disdain. "Can you afford it?"

Nathan also looked at Mary wickedly, thinking that if Mary couldn't handle the pressure and fell into his arms, he would gain a lot.

"Alright, Lydia, stop it. You know your cousin's situation; why provoke her like this? It's a bit unethical." Alice also spoke to belittle them. "$1,562 per square foot, how many people in Rosewood City can afford it? Only families like ours can barely manage."

"$1,562 per square foot is indeed very expensive." Before Mary could speak, James said calmly. "But we can afford it."
