Chapter 248 The $140 Million Contract

Seeing Alexa and her crew leave Main Street, Jared and his gang finally strolled back.

Not long after, a groggy Sebastian wandered over, "What happened?"

James grinned, "Just a little drama!"

"James, who was that woman just now? Why was she so full of herself?" Stephen handed James a cup of tea, "I don't remember any idiots like that in Rosewood City."

"Folks from the Howard family in Philly," James didn't hold back and gave a quick rundown of the clash. "I thought they'd come for help today, but they showed up all high and mighty." He shook his head, checked a patient, and wrote a prescription.

"So, they're from the Howard family," Jared said, finally getting it, and then smirked, "Makes sense now. I've met Simon's daughter before; he's so full of herself."

Stephen added, "Simon's the same way. Acts all polite, but deep down, he's just as arrogant."

"They're loaded, with billions in the bank. Everyone kisses up to him, so of course, he's full of himself," Sebastian said, pulling up a chair. "I heard that twenty years ago, Simon was rubbing elbows with the big shots."

"Yeah, the Howard family's got some serious pull. The authorities even give him special treatment for certain reasons," Jared said, hesitating a bit. "James, why not just see Simon and avoid any unnecessary hassle?"

He wasn't worried about Simon pushing James around, just thought it was better to have a powerful friend than a powerful enemy.

Sebastian disagreed, "They kicked James out, and now they're still acting all high and mighty. Treating him would be a slap in the face."

"Right, don't treat him. If he wants to live, he should crawl to your door," Nathaniel agreed. "He's a grown man; he should face the music."

"Who cares about his attitude, his billions, or who he knows," Stephen said, backing James. "James can make them bow down with just one silver needle."

Compared to the more level-headed Jared, Stephen and the others were hot-headed and ready to throw down, no matter who the opponent was.

"You guys are impossible," James said, shaking his head, waving them off, and getting back to his patients.

But a thought crossed his mind, wondering if Mary might get caught up in all this.

Meanwhile, in the fancy hall of Villa No. 3, Sarah sipped her coffee, glaring at Alexa.

Alexa was on her knees, shaking, and quickly explained, "Miss Howard, James is too arrogant. I begged him to treat Mr. Howard and even offered $200,000 upfront. But he refused to come and was really rude. He told me to tell you that either you and Mr. Howard kneel and beg, or buy a cemetery plot for Mr. Howard. I lost my cool and yelled at him, and he got mad, saying the Howard family is nothing, and called a bunch of people to attack us. Over a hundred people showed up, hurt the bodyguards, and trashed the car."

She cried, twisting the story to make James look bad while leaving out the important details.

Hearing this, Sarah jumped up, threw her coffee cup on the ground, and yelled, "Bastard! How dare a doctor talks down the Howard family? Does he think he's untouchable? Doesn't he know who we are? Not just in Rosewood City, but anywhere in this country, I can ruin him with a single word!"

Her face turned beet red with anger, and her brows furrowed in rage. She'd been giving orders since she was a kid, and people usually felt honored to follow them. This was the first time someone had the guts to defy her, and it was some no-name doctor.

This made Sarah livid. "Call the cops and the medical board. Shut down his clinic and arrest James."

She couldn't believe she couldn't handle James.

"Wait!" A voice came from upstairs, and then Simon was seen being helped down. After being treated by Brooke's team, his chest pain had eased, and he was back to normal. Seeing Simon, Alexa quickly stepped back to avoid making him uncomfortable.

"Dad! Why are you down here? Brooke said you need more rest." Sarah rushed to him, "I can handle this."

"That arrogant jerk needs to be taught a lesson, or he won't know the power of the Howard family." She moved to support Simon.

Simon slowly walked to the hall. "My chest hurt on the third day, so it seems James knows his stuff."

"This might just be a fluke," Sarah sighed, "I still don't trust him."

"I agree, I don't think he's anything special. I've never met a doctor his age who's actually accomplished anything." Simon sat down on the sofa, "But now is a critical time, and we can't miss any opportunity."

"The Apollo Team can only treat my headaches and chest pains but can't find the cause of my illness. In this situation, we can't rush to vent our anger and get rid of James. Even if it's a long shot, we must handle it carefully. It might be useful at a critical moment." After years of fighting in the business world, Simon was used to leaving some leeway, "So don't touch James for now."

"Don't touch him?" Sarah bit her red lips, her eyes flashing with hatred, "But he really annoys me."

"Wait a few more days. Didn't he say my chest hurt on the third day and he was coughing up blood on the fifth?" Simon coughed, picked up a cup of warm water, and drank it, "Let's see if I vomit blood in two days. If I do, it means he's really good, and we can lower our status and invite him to take a look. If in two days, I have nothing or just headaches and chest pains, it means that kid is talking nonsense. The chest pain diagnosis would just be a coincidence."

"By then, not only will we shut down his clinic, but we will also sue him for assault and make him rot in jail." His face suddenly became ferocious, like a wounded beast, "I will make him understand the cost of offending the Howard family."

Sarah nodded repeatedly, then changed the subject, "What should we do now? Just wait?"

"Draft a contract worth $1.4 billion for Mary." Simon's eyes flashed with a cold light, "In two days, if I vomit blood, tell her to bring James over, and the $1.4 billion contract will be hers. If she refuses, then give the contract to Jane."
