Chapter 240 The Woman in the Gown
"Round six, Leopold vs. Maurice."
The host's voice rang out, giving everyone a chance to place their bets.
Even though tonight's main event was Bryan against the Rosewood City crew, it didn't stop the high rollers from throwing down some serious cash.
The place was buzzing.
Maurice knew Leopold was no joke. The guy had axes, steel arm guards, and gloves—he was ready for war.
Maurice slammed an axe into the floor, cracking it and making the ring shake.
The dude was a beast, showing off his power and psyching himself up for the fight.
The crowd went wild.
Olivia and her crew relaxed a bit, thinking Maurice might have a shot against Leopold.
With the crowd going nuts, Leopold just stood there, cool as a cucumber, not even looking at Maurice or the cracked floor.
He just held his knife, calm and proud.
James gave a slight nod, impressed by Leopold's chill.
"Maurice is pretty tough," Jonathan said, eyes lighting up as he watched Maurice. "No wonder Miss Lee dropped 7 million bucks to get him for this fight."
"7 million? Man, fighting really pays," James sighed. "How many patients would I need to see to make that kind of money? Maurice gets it in one fight."
James joked, "Maybe I should think about fighting if I ever need cash."
Jonathan laughed, "Come on, James. If you need money, just say so. People would throw it at you." Then he switched gears, "By the way, that white-haired guy is Neil, Bryan's son."
"He might look like a spoiled rich kid, but he's tough. Good with a gun and in close combat, with hundreds of kills. I've heard Neil took over at least forty percent of Bryan's overseas territory," Jonathan added. "Bryan sent him here to show off his skills."
James nodded, "I can see that."
This fight was a big deal. If Neil wasn't capable, why would Bryan send him to Rosewood City?
"See those folks in the audience? They're from The Morris Family. The guy in the middle is Keith. I don't know the others, but they're probably his crew," Jonathan pointed out. "These people have serious clout, even the authorities have guards on them."
James glanced over, focusing on Keith in his suit, trying to read him but getting nothing.
Keith was calm, like a still pond.
No wonder he was the heir to Stardust City; he played the part well.
As James checked out Keith, the woman next to him caught his eye and turned to look at him.
Their eyes met.
Her gaze was cold and strong, staring right at James.
James didn't flinch, meeting her stare, taking in her stunning face, and glancing at her chest and long legs.
He looked impressed.
Annoyed by James's bold gaze, the woman glared at him and crossed her legs to block his view.
"See that old guy in black? That's Zachary from the Arbitration Council," Jonathan went on.
"He's part of the Mystic Alliance Elder Council and knows his stuff, especially the Eagle Claw Technique. But he's super petty. If you cross him, even by accident, he'll hold a grudge for years and get back at you when you least expect it.
He's from the Los Angeles Mystic Alliance, used to be the president, and he's tight with Larry. When Larry died, Zachary lost it and volunteered to come to Rosewood City to put the Mystic Alliance here in its place."
James took another look at Zachary, a guy in his sixties, still strong but with those narrow, squinty eyes.
He was sitting in the middle of the Arbitration Council, surrounded by his crew, glaring at the Rosewood City folks with clear hostility.
James made a mental note to steer clear of him.
While James was lost in thought, the host was back in the center of the ring, yelling into the mic, "Round six, begin!"
"Hey kid, draw your knife already."
Maurice, pumped up by the crowd, stretched and raised his axe, shouting at Leopold, "Let's see if your knife is faster than my axe. I'm taking your head off with one swing."
With that, he kicked out, the sound sharp and the force strong, easily over a hundred pounds.
Leopold didn't even flinch, standing in the corner with a look of disdain, like he couldn't care less.
Maurice's anger flared at Leopold's silence. He let out a roar and charged forward.
His speed was insane!
As he rushed in, his axe came down hard on Leopold.
The crowd gasped, not expecting the big guy to move so fast.
Neil squinted, intrigued, "Interesting."
Feeling Maurice's power, Leopold let out a low shout, drew his knife, and charged.
The two fighters clashed in a brutal, bloody, and raw battle.
The ring shook with the force of their blows, the sound of clashing weapons echoing through the venue.
Crimson axe shadows and lightning-fast knife flashes intertwined, creating two different whirlwinds, sparking brightly.
Maurice kept growling, each growl fueling his fighting spirit.
His arms moved so fast they were a blur.
Leopold fought back with everything he had.
With a heavy thud, their weapons collided fiercely.
Leopold staggered back, his clothes slashed but no blood drawn.
Maurice let out a scream, dropping his axes as he clutched his knee and fell, revealing knife wounds on his body and knee with his tendons cut.
Maurice's eyes were full of frustration, anger, and disbelief. He glared at Leopold, his mouth twitching with fear and doubt.
He was in so much pain he couldn't speak, but everyone knew he was in despair.
Losing this fight not only hurt him but also wrecked his future.
Leopold didn't stop, delivering a perfect spinning kick that sent Maurice's huge body flying.
The poor guy landed at Olivia's feet, spitting blood.
Maurice was on the brink of death.
The whole place went silent.
He really lost!
