Chapter 58 She Was the Traitor
The grey-clothed elder fell silent.
It wasn't just because of James's cruelty but also the cold indifference in his tone.
Even though they were seasoned in countless battles, at this moment, they all felt an extreme dryness in their throats, unable to speak.
The grey-clothed elder tried to mask his embarrassment with a smile. "Young hero, my name is Kevin Lee. Thank you for saving me and Ms. Lee. I will forever be grateful for this kindness."
The elder asked, "May I know how to address you, young hero?"
He eagerly tried to win James over, grateful for his life-saving grace and sensing that someone capable of killing a formidable opponent like Austin had a promising future.
"Kevin, this is James, my friend," Olivia Lee introduced as she approached James, her voice carrying an unusual emotion. "James, Kevin is my shadow guard."
Hearing that James was Olivia's friend, Kevin's expression instantly turned respectful.
Though this was his first encounter with Kevin despite his frequent interactions with Olivia, James wasn't surprised because Kevin was her secret protector.
He felt a touch of emotion, realizing Olivia had shared such a life-threatening secret with him, showing her complete trust.
Caught off guard, Olivia then asked, "James, how did you get here?"
James wiped the blood from the YC Sword and sheathed it back on his hand.
James replied, "I heard the explosion over the phone and worried something had happened to you, so I rushed over. Turns out I did save your life."
He joked. "Remember to repay me well."
Olivia stood tall. "How about offering myself?"
James blushed unexpectedly.
"Coward." Olivia rolled her eyes at James and then curiously said, "I thought you were only skilled in medicine, but your combat skills are terrifying, too. You really keep your cards close to your chest."
At that moment, Olivia was genuinely surprised, struggling to reconcile the James she knew with the son-in-law of the Smith family.
Her interest piqued. If she had previously enjoyed teasing James to see him flustered, now she was genuinely considering taking him home.
"Let's talk another day." James waved his hand. "Let's get someone to clean up this mess first."
With such a multitude of deaths, James was engulfed by a sense of dread, knowing that if the police caught wind of his involvement, he would die ten times.
Olivia checked her phone. "The signal is jammed. We should get out of here first."
James's gaze paused, noticing a black band on Austin's left wrist and that of the others.
Before James could respond, several SUVs roared up the mountain path.
The doors opened, and a woman in blue with eight uniformed bodyguards stepped out.
The woman in blue was stunning. Her wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she was dressed in a blue shirt and shorts that accentuated her curves.
Especially her exposed legs, long and fair, were irresistibly seductive yet carried an indescribable pride.
She was Savannah Garcia, a relative of the Lee family and Olivia's maternal aunt.
"Olivia, are you alright?" Savannah rushed over with her companions. "What on earth happened?"
"Aunt Savannah, I'm fine." Olivia replied calmly, "A group of assassins targeted us here. Six of my comrades died in battle, and Kevin was seriously injured."
Kevin nodded. "These assassins were formidable!"
"Why did they come to Rosewood City to kill you?" Savannah inquired.
Kevin needed clarification. "I don't know, but it's strange how they knew Miss. Lee's route and were well-prepared for an ambush."
Savannah narrowed her eyes. Then her expression turned cold.
Olivia gazed at James with affection in her eyes. "I admit my negligence today, but luckily, I am the favored one. Encountering James, it's their misfortune."
"James?" Savannah's gaze sharpened upon hearing this, staring at James, who was sending a message to Samuel.
Savannah asked, "Was it him who saved you?"
Olivia Lee nodded. "Yes."
"Take him down!" At Savannah's command. "If he resists, kill without mercy."
Olivia's face changed. "Aunt Savannah, what are you doing?"
Savannah stared at James, sneering. "At his age, how could he possibly kill such skilled opponents? They must be in cahoots."
Her subordinates surrounded James at her signal, their dark guns flashing.
James pocketed his phone and glanced at Savannah Garcia and her men.
James said, "Kill without mercy?"
Before Olivia could speak, Savannah harshly commanded. "You're definitely with the assassins, staging a crucial play to get close to Olivia. You might fool others, but not me."
James stared at her wrist. "Do you have any proof?"
"No proof," she responded.
Savannah arrogantly declared. "Even if you did save Olivia, in times like these, we'd rather kill a thousand by mistake than let one go."
James was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Very well!"
Savannah's tone was dismissive."Still so calm at a time like this, you've got some nerve. But unfortunately, you're still going to die."
She smirked. "Just accept your fate!"
Olivia's face turned cold. "Aunt Savannah, don't be reckless. He's James. He saved..."
"Shut up!" Savannah was forceful. Although you are a miss of the Lee family, I am your aunt, and I must weed out the bad elements."
James spoke calmly, "Are you really going to provoke me?"
"Provoke you?" a bald bodyguard sneered. "Brat, who do you think you are?"
His voice cut off abruptly as the YC Sword suddenly pressed against his throat.
The scene fell silent.
No one saw how James had moved.
Savannah's eyes narrowed slightly, revealing undisguised coldness.
The bald man shouted, "Brat, you dare to hold a sword to me..."
James's sword moved, and the bald man's body shook, flying back several feet.
A hole appeared in his throat.
A chill ran through the crowd.
"Who are you?" Savannah asked.
Without responding, James's sword flashed.
Seven screams overlapped, and the seven bodyguards surrounding James flew backward simultaneously, their bodies dismembered.
Although James's foundation in martial arts was not yet strong, his speed and strength were extremely terrifying. He had more than enough power to slaughter these thugs.
Seeing the seven men die on the spot, the faces of Kevin and his group changed again. Savannah roared in anger.
Savannah asked, "Who the hell are you?"
There was no response, only a sword.
Savannah retreated rapidly.
At the same time, the guns were aimed at James.
But before they could fire, a blade cut them down, and the next second, the sword was at Savannah's throat.
James stood calmly. "You dare to provoke me."
Kevin instinctively spoke, "Kid, spare her. She's a member of the Lee family."
Savannah shouted, "I'm Olivia's aunt. Can you bear the consequences of killing me?"
With a sharp sound, the sword tip pierced Savannah's throat.
Her body stiffened in disbelief. "You... you..."
She couldn't believe James had actually killed her.
With a flash of cold light, Savannah fell before Olivia, blood spraying, eyes wide open in death.
The mountain path fell eerily silent!
Kevin and the others were shocked, watching James, not expecting him to be so ruthless, even killing Savannah.
How would they explain this to the Lee family?
Though internally displeased, Kevin dared not provoke James, fearing for his own life.
Only Olivia remained calm throughout, her face showing no emotion.
James didn't even glance at the fallen Savannah, instead stepping toward Olivia and asking softly, "Do you blame me for killing her?"
If Olivia harbored any reservations, James was prepared to sever their ties and cease all interactions.
Olivia smiled faintly. "Ten aunts couldn't compare to your worth in my heart."
Was this a confession?
James's eyelids twitched, then he pointed out, shifting the topic.
James said, "You needn't feel regretful. Just look at the black bands on the left wrists of Savannah and the assassins."
Kevin and the others were taken aback. They turned to look at Savannah and her group's left wrists, shocked to find they all wore black bands.
Kevin blurted out, "She was the traitor."
