Chapter 45 Enemies on a Narrow Road
James, wielding the YC Sword, chopped down on a kitchen knife.
The kitchen knife broke in two!
The YC Sword was incredibly sharp, slicing through metal easily!
James crafted a bracelet and hid the YC Sword within it, making it readily accessible whenever needed.
The next morning at 4:00 a.m., James got up early to practice his combat skills happily.
The Life Gem had provided him with a manual on sword techniques, which he diligently practiced to maximize the power of the YC Sword.
Afterward, he prepared breakfast.
Just as breakfast was ready, the Smiths and Mary came downstairs.
The matter with Alice was still weighing on Charles and Addison, so both had grim expressions.
Busy until the last minute, James had just sat down at the dining table when Addison crossed her legs and tapped the table with her right hand. "James, where's the Rolex?"
Startled, James still pulled it out and handed it over. "Here it is."
"Good, you haven't damaged it." Addison snatched the Rolex and then stuffed it into Charles's hand.
Mary was stunned. "Mom, what are you doing?"
"We've decided..." Addison didn't even look up. "From today, your father will wear this watch."
Mary was flabbergasted. "Mom, that's James's watch. How could you make decisions for him?"
Before Mary could finish, Addison interrupted her bluntly. "What do you mean? James's? Do you think we don't know the situation?"
James was confused. "What situation?"
"Though you're the owner of the watch, Charles and I both know that it was bought with Mary's money." Addison glared at her daughter. "So, we have the right to decide."
"He didn't buy it with my money!" Mary couldn't help but laugh. "Why would I buy a Rolex for James with my own money?"
"We've analyzed it. The watch costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. James can't afford it, and it's unlikely anyone gave it to him as a gift." Addison's tone was knowing. "The only possibility is that you bought it with money you saved up. Despite me holding your salary card, I give you ten thousand dollars a month for expenses."
"You must have saved up for half a year to buy this watch."
"You bought the Rolex for James to make him look better so he wouldn't embarrass himself or you in public."
Charles sternly agreed. "Irresponsible!"
Mary was dumbfounded. "Mom, that's not the case. The watch is from..."
"Stop making excuses. Besides, he's your father. Couldn't he enjoy some luxury?" Addison glanced at James. "And a watch worth hundreds of thousands of dollars can cost a lot to repair if it gets scratched. Does James have the money for that?"
Charles coughed. "Actually, we're not coveting this watch, mainly we're keeping it safe for you two."
He took James's finger to change the fingerprint.
Mary protested, "Mom, Dad, you're being too overbearing. I'm telling you again, this watch..."
"Enough." Addison waved her hand impatiently.
"I know you want to dress him up, but a Rolex doesn't make a man," she sneered. "Look, he tried to help us yesterday, and what was the result? Alice and her daughter didn't appreciate it at all; they even humiliated him."
"And he's never seen such an expensive watch before. What if he's tempted to sell it one day?"
"Here, give him this old Titoni watch instead."
Addison threw an old Titoni watch from the 1980s across the table, had half a cup of coffee, and then grabbed her handbag to go to work with Charles.
Mary stood up to stop them, but James just laughed and held her back. "Let it go, it's just a watch. Let her have it; consider it a gesture from me."
"And this Titoni isn't bad." James put on the old, tarnished Titoni watch. "Look, it still keeps good time."
He knew Addison was venting her frustration from the previous day's events with Alice, unable to target them and instead transferring it onto him.
Mary was so angry she almost cursed. Then she kicked James's shin as she left, saying, "The Chanel stockings on the washbasin, remember to hand wash them. They're useless if they go through the washing machine..."
"And remember to look for a job."
James called out, "Do you want me to wash your panties too?"
"Get lost." Mary threw a shoe at him.
James quickly dodged, laughing.
Mary remembered something and reminded him, "At six in the evening, go to the Aegean Restaurant."
James curiously asked, "Are you treating me to a candlelit dinner?"
"Be there on time, or you'll hear from me," Mary huffed and left.
James's eyes softened, finally feeling the fiery spirit of a woman.
He quickly finished the housework. As he was about to go out to buy groceries, a call came in.
James put on his earpiece, and soon, Taylor's lazy voice came through. "Hey, freak."
James's voice deepened. "Are you looking for trouble?"
Taylor fell silent, then grumbled, "Are you free right now?"
James bluntly replied, "No, I'm going to the Market to buy groceries."
"Damn it!" Taylor was almost speechless. "You have over a hundred million dollars, and you're telling me about going to the Market to buy groceries."
James spoke calmly, "Speak if you have a business. Otherwise, I'm hanging up."
'Damn it, a beautiful woman is calling you, and instead of being flattered, you seem annoyed. And I even helped you yesterday,' Taylor thought.
She was about to explode but then touched her backside and softened her tone. "Mr. Williams, are you free? I need you to look at my foot."
"For some reason, it keeps failing today. I lost strength four times, and I almost rolled down the stairs."
"It's also a bit swollen; I'm worried the condition is worsening."
"I don't want to be amputated so young; can you help me treat it?"
She put on a pitiful, sobbing face.
James shivered; Taylor's gentleness always felt like a wolf in sheep's clothing, so he frowned slightly and said, "Don't come to me. I'll go to the Clark family's home."
"I'll also check up on your grandfather's condition."
After yesterday's incident with Lydia, James felt a bit embarrassed and decided not to fuss with Taylor.
"I'm not at the Clark family's home; I'm at the QB Tower. I came to work today." Taylor picked up the thread. "We discovered a jade mine abroad, and I have more work piled up than I can handle."
James said, "Fine, send me the address; I'll come to the QB Tower to find you."
After receiving Taylor's address, James hailed a taxi and headed out.
Fifteen minutes later, the taxi stopped in front of a skyscraper in the city center.
The building, over thirty stories tall, was entirely constructed of jade stone, glistening under the sunlight. The interior was lavishly decorated, and the lobby was filled with various pieces of expensive jewelry, and the receptionists were stunningly beautiful.
Thousand Treasures Corporation was really wealthy.
James was about to approach the reception to contact Taylor when he spotted two familiar faces sitting in the lobby.
Alice and Lydia were there.
