Chapter 265 The Strange Mother and Son

When Reese was screaming, James slipped away, so he missed the last few sentences. Otherwise, he would've turned around and left.

"Excuse me, are you Aunt Reese?" After Reese hung up the phone and calmed down a bit, James walked over to greet her. "Mary sent me to pick you up."

"Why didn't Mary come herself?" Reese found a place to vent and started cursing at James. "What does it mean to leave us here waiting for half an hour?"

James tilted his head slightly to avoid the yelling and then smiled. "There was a bit of traffic, please understand."

Reese continued to rage. "Does traffic mean we have to wait? If this were at our company, you'd be fired already."

"And why didn't the Addison couple come to pick us up, and Mary didn't come either? What kind of attitude is that?" She was about to explode with anger; this was a sign of disrespect.

"Mom, why are you getting mad at a driver?" At this moment, Reese's son, Juan, spoke impatiently. "Let's get out of here quickly; I'm uncomfortable. Wait until we see the Addison family, then make them apologize."

He looked at James with disdain, clearly mistaking him for Mary's driver.

Hearing Juan's words, Reese suppressed her anger, planning to get mad at Addison later, but she still snapped at James. "Where's the car?"

She tried to sound tough. "I'm telling you, we won't sit in a car worth less than $200,000."

Seeing them, James had the urge to turn around and leave, but remembering his promise to Mary, he finally pointed to the Audi. "Aunt Reese, the car is over there."

Reese and Juan initially looked impatient, but their eyes lit up when they saw the new Audi.

"At least Mary has some conscience, sending such a good car." Reese snorted, speaking without restraint. "Looks like she really took a lot of money from The Smith Family."

James shook his head, not bothering to explain or argue, and got into the driver's seat to start the car.

Seeing James get in the car directly, Reese frowned and scolded again. "You're just a driver, do you know your place?"

"Don't you know to open the door for the guests when picking them up?" She never forgot her status. "If you keep this up, I'll have Mary fire you."

James had no choice but to get out and open the door for Reese. "Aunt Reese, please get in the car."

Only then did Reese and her son get into the car.

James stepped on the gas, and the car left the train station.

"This jade is nice." Sitting in the front passenger seat, Juan rummaged through the car, not only eating James's gum but also taking the Peace Stone hanging inside.

James had won a carload of jade from Antique Alley, and Sebastian had helped sell almost all of it, but he kept a few pieces to make some small accessories.

This Peace Stone was one that Sebastian had left for James, of excellent quality, worth $450,000 despite its small size.

So when Juan took it, James quickly spoke up. "Don't touch that, it's a Peace Stone."

"No kidding, do you think I don't know it's a Peace Stone?" Juan impatiently scolded James. "Just drive and don't talk."

"It's a good piece." Reese took the jade, examined it closely, and nodded. "The material is of excellent quality."

Juan was also reluctant to part with it. "I feel a strong connection with it."

Reese looked at him indulgently. "Do you like it?"

Juan nodded. "I like it very much."

"Alright!" Reese patted Juan's head affectionately. "Consider this jade a gift from Mom."

After all, Addison was richer than The Smith Family; they wouldn't care about a Peace Stone.

"Thank you, Mom." Juan's eyes sparkled with joy. "Thank you for the gift."

"I'll give you something too." Juan found a string of beads in the car and put them on Reese. "Put this on."

"Don't touch that," James shouted again. The beads were also something he had picked up from Antique Alley, worth as much as gold.

"Can you, a driver, shut up?" Juan yelled at James. "I'm giving my mom a gift, why are you shouting?"

"This gift is nice." Reese looked at it a few times, her eyes showing delight, then gave Juan a thumbs up. "My son has grown up. Alright, I declare, I officially accept this string of beads and give it a chance to be used."

James was speechless. How could they take someone else's things without feeling guilty and even think it was an honor for the original owner?

His voice turned cold. "Put the things down."

Reese's face instantly turned cold. "We are exchanging gifts, what does it have to do with you?"

James's tone was indifferent. "These things aren't Mary's..."

Reese interrupted James. "If they're not Mary's, they're Addison's. She's my sister, so her things are my things."

"Besides, why do you, a driver, care so much?" Reese was aggressive. "Just drive the car properly."

With the traffic ahead and about to get on the bridge, James didn't want to argue and cause an accident, so he temporarily stayed silent, planning to deal with them once they reached Peach Blossom Villa No. 1.

"You can't drive like this, it's too slow." Three minutes later, as the car approached Rosewood City Bridge, Juan suddenly spoke up. "At this speed, when will we get to Peach Blossom Villa No. 1?"

After playing with the Peace Stone, he put his eyes on the steering wheel.

"Pull over." Juan pointed to the side.

James spoke calmly. "What's wrong?"

"Stop the car, you get out, I'll drive," Juan said confidently. "I'll show you what real driving skills are."

James refused without hesitation. "Sorry, you can't drive this car."

"What did you say?" Seeing James refuse, Reese got angry first. "This is The Smith Family's car, what does it have to do with you, a driver? Besides, we are Mary's relatives, what right do you, an outsider, have to object? Stop the car, let my son drive. What right do you, a lousy driver, have to drive such a good car?"

Reese was overbearing. "If you refuse, I'll have Mary fire you."

James was about to lose his patience. "The road conditions in Rosewood City are complicated, you're not familiar with them, it's easy to have an accident."

They were approaching Rosewood City Bridge, an old bridge that, despite its age, was still very sturdy and a landmark of Rosewood City. So the bridge was still busy with cars and tourists taking photos on both sides every day.

James stepped on the brake to slow down.

"It is better than you driving slowly." Juan snorted. "Besides, what's the big deal about an accident? We can settle it with one phone call."

"My mom is very close to David, the head of the medical department in Rosewood City." He boasted. "In Rosewood City, as long as he steps in, any problem can be solved."

Reese echoed. "Exactly, you didn't buy it, so what's the big deal about letting my son drive it? Besides, you're lucky. You wouldn't be driving such a good car if it weren't for picking us up."

"Stop talking and pull over at the bridgehead!" Reese spoke righteously, without a shred of shame.

James was about to refuse without hesitation when a loud noise suddenly erupted on the bridge, startling the vehicles and pedestrians.

James looked up to see a Mercedes breaking through the guardrail and plunging into the river.

Another loud noise followed, with water splashing everywhere.
