Chapter 288 Do You Know James?
Keith and Leila left in a hurry, and Sarah also took Simon to the hospital.
The hundred or so onlookers quickly dispersed, fearing that James would remember them and cause trouble later.
In less than half a minute, the street was almost empty, leaving only James and his group.
James welcomed Anouk and Brandon inside to take a seat.
Not long after, Mark, Bradley, and Randy also arrived.
The three experts had originally planned to come early in the morning to congratulate James, but he was worried about their safety and had kept them from coming to JZL Medical Clinic.
James had even threatened to sever their mentor-student relationship. Now that the crisis was over, he no longer insisted it.
With their arrival, JZL Medical Clinic became lively again.
Seeing this, Brooke was even more determined to become James's apprentice and eagerly picked up a broom to sweep the money.
Mary and Kaitlyn were busy serving tea and water, their faces beaming with joy.
Virgil and Michelle were also happy, chatting briefly before heading to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
While Brandon and Raymond were deep in conversation, James stepped out to see if there was anything else to handle in the store, only to be surrounded as soon as he arrived.
"Master, are you surprised? Are you happy? The cash was my idea. My dad and the others wanted to give jade, but I said it wasn't grand enough. Cash would be more impressive." Mark said.
"James, I also contributed a lot! These gold bars were collected from all over Rosewood City by me. For visual impact, I even made them into hollow bricks, working two days and nights without sleep." Taylor shouted.
"You slept soundly every night while I worked overtime, okay? "What's physical labor compared to my suggestion to leave James first? This way, we could confuse the enemy, preventing them from attacking us one by one, and then surprise them today." Sebastian explained.
They were all vying for credit.
James knocked each of them on the head and then pointed to the street full of gold and cash, "What's the point of all this? Look, the whole street is covered in cash and gold. It'll take three days to sweep it all up. I appreciate your gesture, but we need to clear this stuff out quickly. It's blocking the way and could cause trouble."
James sent Mia and the others to help Brooke sweep the street, urging them to move the cash and gold away from JZL Medical Clinic as soon as possible.
Otherwise, they might attract thieves instead of patients.
James kept Mark behind, "Mark, you stay here and see patients. If any come, you can take care of them."
Mark threw down the broom, pulled up a chair, and sat down with a smile.
Sebastian and the others sighed, thinking they should learn some medical skills too, so they could do technical work instead of sweeping the streets.
"With so much money and gold, aren't you tempted?" As Mia and the others disappeared, Mary came over with a cup of tea, handing it to James, "After a busy morning, have some tea to soothe your throat."
Her voice was unusually gentle, and she had a deeper understanding of James.
He seemed genuinely indifferent to money and power now, unlike when he used to beg her for living expenses.
"Thank you." James took the tea and drank a couple of sips, then smiled and said, "I used to be obsessed with money because I had no choice. My mom was in the hospital, and I couldn't work to earn money. If I didn't find a way to get some from you, how could I pay the medical bills? Now that I have no burdens, money doesn't attract me anymore. Honestly, earning $200,000 doesn't compare to the satisfaction of treating a patient."
James was very candid, "So running a big company and making a lot of money doesn't appeal to me. I like treating patients."
"It seems you've really changed, for the better."Mary smiled, "When I get fired from my job, I'll come here to be your apprentice."
James leaned in and whispered, "How about having a baby to be apprentice?"
"Get lost." Mary pushed James away, "I'll go entertain the guests. When you're done, come inside. Mr. Miller and the others are waiting for you."
"Okay, I'll be there soon." James smiled and then went into the ward to treat the already sleeping Ava.
Meanwhile, on Riverside Avenue, Ray was driving a business car with a few trusted aides, heading to the airport.
He cursed Lucy and himself, thinking that if he hadn't been fooled by Lucy, he wouldn't be in this situation, running away.
In today's confrontation, Simon and Keith had retreated in disgrace, and the powerful people were all on James's side. Ray sensed danger.
He knew that James wouldn't let him off the hook for what happened to Ava.
So he took advantage of the time James was entertaining guests to flee to Stardust City as quickly as possible, planning to find a way to leave the country and get far away from Celestia.
Half an hour later, Ray's car stopped at an intersection, waiting for a sixty-second red light.
Once they passed this intersection, they could get on the airport highway and head straight to Rosewood City Airport.
His tickets and passport were ready,he just needed to get to the airport to escape.
The red light turned off, and the green light came on.
The business car started moving.
At that moment, a container truck suddenly turned from the left, skillfully blocking the business car.
At the same time, a ramp was lowered.
As Ray and his men turned pale, a white Hummer from behind rammed into them, pushing the business car into the container truck.
As soon as the car was inside, two people jumped out of the Hummer, removed the ramp, and quickly closed the door.
Ray and his men were instantly trapped.
Without giving time to react, the container truck sped away.
In the white Hummer, Jacob, with a cigarette in his mouth, played a game and said calmly, "Troy, remember to keep them alive. James needs them."
While Ray was locked in the container in despair, Reese and Juan were stopped at the entrance of Peach Blossom Island.
Juan glared and shouted, "Why are you stopping us? Do you know who my mom is? Do you have any identification to stop us?"
Reese raised her head slightly, assuming a leader's posture.
Several police officers approached.
A young man with a crew cut looked at Juan and said, "Hello, I'm Phillip Wilson from the Rosewood City Police Department. Here's my badge."
Phillip was Scott's trusted aide, who had helped James deal with Mrs. Thompson at the hospital last time.
The badge was genuine.
Reese was puzzled, "What's the matter? Have we broken the law?"
The lead officer asked, "Do you know James?"
Juan instinctively responded, "No!"
"Yes, we don't know him." Reese also denied it, thinking that although James was powerful, he relied on others, while Keith was a genuine aristocrat they couldn't afford to offend.
Phillip pressed, "Are you sure you don't know James?"
Reese and Juan shook their heads without hesitation,"We really don't know him!"
Several officers rushed forward, pinning Reese and Juan down.
They were handcuffed swiftly and roughly.
Reese was furious, "Why are you arresting us? "
"Mr. James reported three days ago that a thief stole his Audi from Rosewood City Bridge while he was diving to save someone." Phillip sneered, "You claim not to know Mr. James, so we have reason to suspect you're the thieves. You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say can be used as evidence in court. Take them away!"
