Chapter 168 Grocery Cart

At 6 PM, in the international arrivals area of Rosewood City Airport, James waited nonchalantly.

He had hesitated all afternoon but finally decided to pick up Kaitlyn.

Firstly, he had promised Kaitlyn in the morning, and secondly, Kaitlyn had always been nice to him. James couldn't distance himself from her just because he left the Smith Family.

Of course, their relationship was still quite amicable. Besides Kaitlyn's simplicity, she studied abroad, and they only met for a few days each year.

With just a few days, even wanting to have conflicts would be difficult.

Abigail had a slim waist, Mary had long legs, and Kaitlyn had a large chest. The lingering impressions in James' mind made it hard for him to breathe.

As James' thoughts wandered, a large number of passengers appeared at the airport exit.

Among them, two young girls walking side by side were particularly eye-catching.

The girl on the left, dressed in black, was in her twenties, over 5 feet 9 inches tall. Even in flat shoes, she stood out in the crowd.

With a pair of expensive sunglasses and casually tied hair, this woman's image was sketched from flat to three-dimensional.

Tall and assertive, the average man wouldn't dare stand next to such a woman.

The girl on the right, of similar age, had delicate and picturesque features, a tall figure, and long, slender legs wrapped in tight jeans.

The cuffs of her jeans were rolled up slightly, revealing her white, slender ankles. On her left ankle, she wore a silver anklet with small bells.

She wore a pair of white sneakers, and with her striking figure, she exuded youthful beauty.

That kind of beauty, without any embellishment, was bathed in the golden glow of the sunset, giving her a radiant aura.

At that moment, the girl was breathtakingly beautiful.

It was none other than the Smith Family's youngest daughter, Kaitlyn.

Although the two had different temperaments, their beauty was equally aggressive, making them stand out in the crowd, attracting many to take photos and exclaim in admiration.

However, it also made countless people feel inferior and hesitant to approach. Even playboys weighed their worth.

"Sophie, how do you like Rosewood City?"

Stepping outside the airport, Kaitlyn breathed in the fresh air and smiled at Sophie.

Dragging her suitcase, Sophie looked around, slightly frowning.

A girl from Stardust City, who had received a complete education elsewhere, had high standards and was always a bit critical of people and things.

If it weren't for the need to secure financing from Hundred Flowers Bank, she might never have had any dealings with Rosewood City in her lifetime.

"Skyscrapers, very glamorous." The girl called Sophie smiled arrogantly, her face full of disdain. "Just a bit too flashy, lacking depth."

"Rapid economic development inevitably has some imperfections." Kaitlyn giggled. "Give it another ten years or so, and Rosewood City will definitely be more mature."

With Sophie's noncommittal smile, James ran over with car keys in hand and called out to Kaitlyn, "Kaitlyn, you've landed?"

"James!"

Seeing James, Kaitlyn immediately squealed and then hugged his neck, clinging to him like a sloth.

"Long time no see."

Although Kaitlyn was already a college student, she was always carefree. Back at the Smith Family, she often wore pajamas to James and Mary's room.

She even shamelessly asked James for help when she couldn't fasten her bra or zipper, so James wasn't surprised by her pouncing on him.

However, seeing the crowd's gaze, James still pried Kaitlyn off.

"Kaitlyn, stop it. There are too many people, getting photographed would be troublesome."

"Troublesome? What trouble could there be between you and me? We're not doing anything inappropriate."

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes at James. "I know, it must be my sister's request. Looks like you really are a henpecked husband."

"Well, with my mom and sister around, you have no choice but to comply."

"Must have been out of your mind to sign that contract. Didn't you see I went abroad to escape my mom and them?"

Kaitlyn complained recklessly.

"I'm divorced from your sister. What's there to be afraid of?"

James muttered to himself but didn't say it in front of Sophie. "It's not about me, mainly it wouldn't be good for you."

"You're so young and beautiful, if a photo of us together gets posted online with a caption like 'Beauty and the Beast,'" James chuckled, "wouldn't people say you have weird taste?"

"Even though I know that's not what you really think, I like hearing it. I am indeed young and beautiful, haha."

Kaitlyn praised herself enthusiastically, then remembered her friend beside her and slapped her forehead.

"Oh, I forgot to introduce you."

"James, this is my friend from abroad, also a talented and beautiful fund manager in the financial sector, Sophie."

"Sophie, this is my brother-in-law, James."

James extended his hand to Sophie with a smile. "Hello."

Sophie glanced at James, seeing his unremarkable appearance, ordinary clothes, and a simple watch on his wrist. Her eyes instinctively showed disdain.

She didn't shake hands with James but just raised her wrist to check her Cartier watch, saying, "Kaitlyn, let's leave it at that for today. I have a dinner meeting later."

"I have a dinner with the vice president of Hundred Flowers Bank. I need to secure a $5 billion financing deal this week."

"Once I'm done with my business, we can meet up for tea another day."

She responded to Kaitlyn indifferently, completely ignoring James' presence.

She inherently looked down on the brother-in-law Kaitlyn had mentioned.

A man who relied on a woman didn't deserve her respect. In her eyes, only Mr. Morris was a real man.

James' eyes flashed with amusement, noticing Sophie's disdain but feeling no anger, as he was used to their attitude.

"You have a dinner meeting?" Kaitlyn showed a hint of disappointment. "I was hoping we could hang out tonight."

"How about you come find me after your business? I'm going to a bar with some friends later, you should join us."

"Meet some new friends." Kaitlyn invited Sophie, worried that her unfamiliar friend might be bored in Rosewood City, and wanted to introduce her to some people.

"No, I really don't have time today. After dinner, I have a few reports to send back." Sophie shook her head. "Besides, your gatherings are full of small-timers who only know how to eat, drink, and play. It's not interesting at all."

Kaitlyn added, "Alright then, you handle your business first. By the way, you need to go downtown, right? Let my brother-in-law give you a ride."

"No need, I'll just call a cab." Sophie shook her head, glancing at James, assuming he drove a grocery-getter, probably a Volkswagen.

She wasn't used to riding in low-end cars.

"Alright, let's leave it at that. We'll get in touch another day."

After saying that, she walked a few feet ahead to hail a cab.

"Kaitlyn, it's fine, she can take care of herself."

James had no fondness for Sophie and then pulled Kaitlyn into the car.

James stepped on the gas, and the car drove past Sophie.

Sophie instinctively glanced over, her disdainful smile instantly freezing—An Audi.
