Chapter 169 Are You That Useless Brother-in-law?
"James, let me tell you, I came back this time secretly."
Kaitlyn didn't pay much attention to James' car. As soon as she got into the passenger seat, she started talking non-stop.
"You know, I'm about to graduate soon. The economy abroad isn't great, and jobs are hard to find, so I sent out over a dozen resumes in Rosewood City."
"Guess what happened?"
"Seven or eight companies invited me for interviews this week."
"One of them, BH Pharmaceuticals, is the best fit for me. They're hiring an executive assistant with a starting salary of $500,000 a year."
She said seriously, "I'm not good with technical skills or networking, so I can only aim to be a manager."
James was slightly taken aback. "BH Pharmaceuticals? You want to join that company?"
"Of course, I have to. Why else would I come all the way back for an interview?" Kaitlyn crossed her legs. "Let me tell you, even though BH Pharmaceuticals is small, it's backed by Hundred Flowers Bank and can grow anytime."
James smiled. "You've done your homework."
"Determined to win." Kaitlyn replied lazily, then changed the subject. "Mom and Dad always wanted me to join TG Company after graduation to help my sister, but I'm not interested at all."
"I don't want to waste my youth working for others like my sister. TG Company is just using us as tools for the Smith Family. So I'm planning to work for another company after graduation."
"I've arranged to meet some friends at a bar tonight. They all work at BH Pharmaceuticals, and I've heard they hold pretty high positions."
"I contacted them as soon as I got off the plane, hoping they could help me out."
"I asked you to pick me up to cover for me, so Mom and Dad won't stop me from interviewing and force me to go to TG Company."
She confessed her intentions to James.
"Kaitlyn, sorry, I don't think I can help you."
At the intersection ahead, the light turned red. James stepped on the brake and shook his head lightly. "Your sister and I..."
"Don't you dare refuse me."
Kaitlyn pouted, leaned half her body toward James, and said, "If you don't help me, my freedom as a beautiful woman will be crushed by them."
Although James only saw Kaitlyn as a little sister, her leaning in like that made his eyes inadvertently catch a glimpse of her youthful charm.
'Youth is wonderful.' James sighed inwardly, feeling like he could smell the scent of green apples.
But James still shook his head. "I really can't cover for you."
"How can you not cover for me?" Kaitlyn blinked. "Later, I'll text Mom saying I'm back in Rosewood City and having drinks with friends at a bar, and I'll come home after."
"Mom and Dad will definitely be furious. Then I'll say you're watching over me, and if you say a few words, they won't be mad."
"Even though they don't think highly of you and often give you a hard time, they'll be reassured if you're with me."
She even took out a wad of cash and stuffed it into James' pocket. "James, please help me out."
James refused without hesitation. "No, I can only take you home."
Kaitlyn pouted.
Then, James saw a small hand reach over, grab his left wrist, pause, and shake it pitifully.
James' heart trembled. He turned to look and saw Kaitlyn pouting, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him.
James smiled helplessly. "I can take you to the gathering tonight, but you must be back at the Smith Family by eleven."
"Thank you, James."
Kaitlyn jumped up, pressed two fingers to her red lips, and then touched James' face. "A kiss as a reward."
James smiled wryly, then stepped on the gas and drove off.
The road back to the city was congested, and it took James almost two hours to reach the riverside bar street, stopping in front of a bar called Glory Bar.
"Come on, James, let's go in together. Tonight's on me."
After sleeping for two hours, Kaitlyn woke up immediately upon hearing the passionate music outside the window. She pulled James towards Glory Bar.
She seemed very familiar with the place, indicating she had been there many times before.
As soon as James entered the bar, the deafening music assaulted his ears. To be honest, James didn't really like this kind of environment.
At 8:30, it was the peak time for the bar, so there were many people coming and going.
Kaitlyn, holding James' arm, scanned the booth area.
"Kaitlyn, Kaitlyn, over here!"
As soon as Kaitlyn appeared, she instantly attracted a lot of attention.
Then, a tall girl stood up from a booth on the east side, waving excitedly at Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn quickly pulled James over.
In the crescent-shaped booth sat four or five young, fashionable girls, all dressed very stylishly, with their exposed legs looking quite alluring.
Kaitlyn leaned close to James' ear and whispered with a smile, "Too bad you're married to my sister, or I could introduce you to some beauties."
"Jenny, Fiona, Susan, hi, long time no see." Kaitlyn let go of James and hugged each girl, then introduced James to everyone with a smile.
"This is my brother-in-law, James."
"James, let me introduce you."
"This is Jenny Wheeler, this is Susan Anderson, and this is Fiona Thomas, the three beauties of BH Pharmaceuticals' PR department, each worth millions."
Kaitlyn introduced the girls to James in one breath.
'BH Pharmaceuticals again?'
James thought it was quite a coincidence. Although he didn't like the scene, he extended his hand out of politeness.
"Hello everyone, I'm James, nice to meet you all."
Jenny glanced at James, saw his attire, and pouted, a look of disappointment flashing across her pretty face.
"I'm Jenny."
Susan responded casually, also not choosing to shake hands with James.
"Kaitlyn, are you kidding me?"
Fiona directly shouted, "I thought you were bringing a big shot or a rich second generation, but you brought your brother-in-law. Are you hiding the good ones from us?"
Jenny and the others chimed in, "Yeah, good resources should be shared. What? afraid we'll steal them?"
James smiled faintly and withdrew his hand.
He could tell that Jenny and the others looked down on him, so they didn't even bother to shake his hand.
Kaitlyn shrugged. "I'm buried in books every day, where do I have time to date?"
As she explained, she held James' hand, seemingly apologizing to him and also comforting him.
'Smooth and soft,' James thought.
"Good thing I invited Gary." Jenny giggled. "With Gary here, tonight's party won't be boring."
Saying this, she waved and called out to a few people not far away. "Gary, over here."
Then, a tall, extremely handsome man walked over.
Jenny's boyfriend, also the PR manager at BH Pharmaceuticals—Gary Allen!
He was dressed in designer clothes, his face shiny, and he had a big belly.
Behind him were a few well-dressed men and women.
Surrounded like a star, he looked like a successful person.
"Gary!"
"Gary!"
Susan and the others all stood up to greet him, smiling and trying to get close. Even Kaitlyn called out to Gary.
James also greeted him for Kaitlyn's sake. "Nice to meet you."
"You're Kaitlyn's useless brother-in-law?"
After the greetings, Gary looked at James with disdain and sneered, "If you ever need anything in Rosewood City, just mention my name."
