Chapter 175 Who is the Car Owner?
After Sebastian and his group left in a sorry state, James didn't leave immediately.
He slowly drank a bottle of soda and then released the alcohol before leaving the bar.
Outside the bar, which had quieted down after the commotion, it was somewhat peaceful, but there were still quite a few onlookers peeking around, seemingly wanting to see James' miserable end.
Near the security booth, there were still seven or eight people, and James recognized them as Kaitlyn and her group with just a glance.
Gary and Jenny were quite delighted, with the excitement of having survived a disaster, and they kept advising Kaitlyn about something.
But Kaitlyn stubbornly shook her head, trying several times to break free from Susan's pull, but was blocked by Fiona and the others.
She could only argue fiercely while looking toward the bar entrance, clearly worried about James' safety.
"James?"
Suddenly, Kaitlyn saw James walking out, her body trembling instantly, and then she ran over joyfully.
"James, you came out? Are you okay?"
She was shocked that James was safe and sound, and then she directly hugged James.
Gary and the others looked at James in astonishment, not expecting him to come out unscathed.
"James, I was so worried about you. I wanted to go in, but they held me back."
"Did Sebastian hit you? Where did he hit you?"
Kaitlyn touched everywhere, wanting to see if James was injured.
James felt the warmth in his arms and looked down to see a face full of tears, reminiscent of Mary from eighteen years ago.
He gently patted Kaitlyn's back, his voice unprecedentedly gentle.
"Don't cry, don't cry."
He comforted Kaitlyn, "It's okay, I'm fine, they didn't hit me."
Kaitlyn wiped away her tears, her pretty face full of guilt.
"It's all my fault, I shouldn't have asked you to come here, and I shouldn't have left you."
After coming out, she immediately took out her phone to find someone for help, but no one in her circle could assist, and the call to the police station was met with a busy signal.
"You didn't know you would encounter such a bunch of scoundrels." James soothed Kaitlyn's emotions. "As for leaving me, it was just me asking you to go out and seek help."
"Besides, you, a little girl, couldn't have saved me."
"Alright, don't feel guilty, it's good that everyone is okay."
He wiped away a tear from Kaitlyn's face.
Kaitlyn, with a sobbing tone, said, "James, I'm sorry, I couldn't find anyone to save you. They all ignored me, and I couldn't get through to the police."
"James, you should thank Gary for your safety."
At this moment, Jenny walked over with a cold face, pulled Kaitlyn away from the hug, and exploded, "If it weren't for Gary making a timely call to resolve the situation, not only would you have lost half your life, but we would have been in trouble too."
"Idiot, if you want to act tough and get yourself killed, fine, but don't drag Kaitlyn and us down with you."
"You think you're so great, slapping Mr. Collins three times in public. I'm telling you, you should thank Gary for finding someone to suppress Mr. Collins, otherwise, if anything happened to us, we would definitely make you pay."
Fiona and Susan also came over to scold James.
Gary stood with his arms crossed, looking at James with disdain.
'Gary resolved the situation?'
James was first stunned, then laughed, never having seen such shameless people.
But thinking about the exaggerated things Gary said in the bar, he felt it was Gary's style, so he added this BH Group PR manager to his blacklist.
"James, Susan, don't be like this. My brother-in-law was trying to protect us at the time."
Kaitlyn hurriedly stood up to ease the atmosphere. "If he hadn't stood up at that time, we would have been in trouble."
"The main problem was Mr. Collins and his group."
"But James, we should indeed thank Gary for our safety tonight."
"He found friends to help and spent some money, which made Mr. Collins back off."
Kaitlyn looked at Gary with gratitude.
After a group of men in black escorted Gary and the others out, they didn't confiscate their phones, so they all used their phones to seek help.
Gary made more than a dozen calls in one go, constantly promising ten thousand, fifty thousand, a hundred thousand to settle the matter.
When Gary hung up the fifteenth call, the earpiece of the man in black guarding them twitched, and then they all withdrew, restoring their freedom.
Kaitlyn knew she hadn't been of any help, so like Susan and the others, she believed it was Gary who used his connections to help a lot.
Gary also shouted that he had spent a million to settle the matter.
James also looked at Gary and smiled. "Gary resolved the situation?"
Kaitlyn added, "Gary, I'll transfer that million to you tomorrow."
"A little money, no need, as long as everyone is okay."
Gary waved his hand grandly, like a savior.
"Mr. Collins was indeed tricky, my friend had to put in a lot of effort to barely resolve it."
"Although this incident was caused by James, for Kaitlyn's sake, I won't hold it against you."
"And you don't need to pay that million, even if you wanted to, you probably couldn't come up with that amount with your poor state."
"Just make sure you know your place in the future. Acting recklessly and impulsively might get you killed, but don't drag others down with you."
He scolded James with a stern face.
"Gary, thank you."
Kaitlyn raised her pretty face and said, "Don't worry, I owe you a favor. And I can't let you pay that million. I'll transfer the money to you tomorrow."
She had over $800,000 in her savings, and with a bit more from Mary and her parents, a million wouldn't be a problem.
"Although this started because of Albert, I was the one who called James here, so I must pay this money. Gary, please don't refuse, or I won't feel at ease."
Kaitlyn didn't want to get too involved with Gary, so she didn't want to owe him a favor.
James smiled calmly without interrupting, wanting to see what kind of person Gary really was.
"Alright, Kaitlyn, since you're so insistent, I'll take the money."
Gary put on a face of reluctance, then stared at James and snorted, "Kid, you should be grateful you have Kaitlyn as your sister-in-law."
James said calmly, "Are you sure you want to take Kaitlyn's money?"
Gary's voice deepened. "Kaitlyn insisted on giving it to me. Didn't you hear me say no earlier?"
Kaitlyn nodded. "James, I must give this money to him."
James looked at Gary and sneered, "You know whether you spent that million or not."
Gary's heart skipped a beat, feeling like he had been seen through, and he jumped up and shouted, "Kid, what do you mean? Are you saying I'm scamming money?"
"Damn it, if I had known, I wouldn't have used my connections and let Mr. Collins and his men beat you to death."
"Now I spend money to get you out, and you repay me with suspicion. You're really ungrateful."
"Everyone can testify, I made more than a dozen calls and begged more than a dozen people to resolve this."
He said sternly, "If it weren't for Kaitlyn's sake, I'd kill you right now."
James was about to expose him when Kaitlyn pulled him back.
"James, Gary really used a lot of connections to save us. He worked hard, so don't worry about the money."
Kaitlyn wanted to keep the peace. "I can come up with the million."
To Kaitlyn, nothing was more precious than James being safe and sound. A million was a lot, but it was worth it.
"Gary, don't be angry; it's pointless."
Jenny looked at James with contempt. "What future does a poor guy like him have? Arguing with him is embarrassing."
Fiona also snorted, "Exactly, someone who's never seen the world. Rosewood City should have a policy to kick out anyone with an annual income below $100,000."
Kaitlyn's pretty face turned dark.
"James is my brother-in-law. If you keep treating him like this, I'll be angry."
Seeing Kaitlyn about to flip out, Susan and the others stopped mocking, but their eyes were still full of disdain.
'A man who relies on a woman will never amount to anything,' they thought.
As they were sneering at James and walking toward the parking lot, Susan's eyes lit up.
She ran to a black Audi and shouted, "Wow, what an impressive Audi!"
The Audi was the one David had given to James.
Compared to the Ferraris and other luxury cars in the parking lot, the Audi wasn't much, but with its bulletproof modifications and license plate, it was very eye-catching.
"A top-of-the-line Audi, huh? This one must be $3,000,000?"
"$3,000,000? Are you blind? Can't you see it's modified with bulletproof panels? Bullets can't penetrate it, at least $10,000,000."
"Bulletproof? Look at the license plate. The last one sold for $6,000,000. How much do you think this is worth?"
"Most people from the bar have left. Whose car is this? Could it be the bar manager's?"
"Rich indeed. This car with the plate is nearly $2 million."
Although Jenny and Fiona had decent incomes, making over $1,000,000 a year, they still couldn't afford a $2 million car.
Gary's car was just over $1,000,000.
So they were all very envious of this bulletproof Audi, which not only signified wealth but also high status.
After some admiration, Gary invited Kaitlyn, "Kaitlyn, take my Mercedes back. It's late, and taking a cab isn't safe." He pretended to be modest. "But the car isn't great, just a $1,000,000 base model."
Jenny also nodded with a smile. "That's right, let's go together. Gary just has to make a small detour."
Kaitlyn was about to say James had a car, but James spoke first, "No need, you can take Susan and the others. I'll take Kaitlyn."
"You'll take her?" Gary sneered, "How? With your mouth? Can you take responsibility if something happens?"
James replied, "I have a car too."
Gary snorted, "A shared bike?"
Fiona and the others also sneered, thinking James was ridiculous and vain, claiming to have a car just because others did.
James ignored them and took out his key, pressing a button.
The bulletproof Audi beeped, and its headlights flashed.
"Kaitlyn, let's go."
James pulled the stunned Kaitlyn into the Audi.
He stepped on the gas and roared away.
Gary and Jenny were shocked by what they saw.
'James is the owner of the bulletproof Audi? How is that possible?'
They stood there, dumbfounded.
