Chapter 301 A Good Son-in-law
As soon as Addison ran away, James became the target of everyone's anger.
He was instantly surrounded by a group of women, chattering and demanding that he pay off the $5 million debt.
They were well aware of the Addison Family's wealth, and since the property deed for Peach Blossom Villa No. 1 had never been produced, they clung to the $5 million debt.
Compared to the Christopher couple, they found JZL Medical Clinic more valuable.
Mary wanted to say something but was drowned out by the noise.
"Fine, everyone listens to me, I'll take on this debt." James, harassed to the point of a headache and unaccustomed to such chaos, cursed Addison under his breath and decided to get rid of these people.
Otherwise, Mary and Kaitlyn's sisters would have no peace.
Mary hurriedly tried to stop him, "James, this has nothing to do with you. My mom will handle it..."
"How does it not concern him? A son-in-law living in his wife's house is like a son... Your mom owes money, so the son must pay it back... If you don't give us the money, we'll block the entrance to JZL Medical Clinic tomorrow... You Smith family members can't bully us, widows and orphans..." Before Mary could finish her sentence, a bunch of women started arguing, even tearing off James's shirt buttons.
James didn't dare to push them away. He believed that if he fumed at them, these women would immediately fall to the ground, claiming disabled for a higher compensation.
"Shut up, bring me the IOUs!" James shouted, "Bring me all the IOUs, and I'll pay you right now."
The room fell silent, these women did not expect James to actually take on all the debts.
They no longer needed to wait for Addison to sell the Smith Villa and CF Clinic.
The Christopher couple also stood up, surprised that James was taking on these debts.
Soon, everyone was grinning from ear to ear, happily handing over the property deeds and land titles from Emerald Country to James.
James didn't waste any time, collecting all the property deeds and then having Mary verify them.
An hour later, James had paid off the $21 million.
After receiving the principal, the dozen or so women, relieved, started shouting again, "The principal is paid, but there's still the interest. We agreed on 10% per month... We're not asking for much, just one month's worth... Yeah, you still owe us interest, or this isn't over."
"Get out!" James shouted unceremoniously, "If you don't leave, I'll call the police and get the money back."
Seeing James's strong stance, the dozen or so women reluctantly left, taking some villa decorations and even the flower pots at the entrance with them.
As soon as they left, Addison, who had been peeping from upstairs, came down with a few property deeds in hand.
"James, here are my property deeds, which are worth $14 million. Why don't you buy these from me too?" Addison looked at James with bright eyes. "For Mary's sake, I'll give you a 20% discount, so just $11.2 million!"
Mary couldn't hold back and shouted, "Mom, don't push it! Everyone knows that the land and houses you invested in have all been confiscated by Emerald Country. The property deeds in your hand are just a pile of waste paper! James spent so much money to help you out, and instead of being grateful, you want to take advantage of him. Are you even human? Also, the debt James paid off wasn't $5 million, but $21 million. That means the Smith Villa and CF Clinic now belong to James. Don't think about playing dumb and not giving them to him."
Mary reminded Addison not to play tricks.
"Shut up!" Addison was furious, slamming the table, "Mary, I'm your mother. How dare you talk to me like that? So what if it's waste paper? So what if I'm taking advantage of him? He should be grateful!"
Addison righteously said, "He's so capable and has so much money. Isn't it only right for him to show filial piety to me?"
Mary shouted, "We've divorced!"
"So what? Even if you're divorced, you can remarry. You are so close, it's like you're already remarried," Addison's mind turned, "Since it's like you're remarried, James is right my son-in-law. Isn't it right for him to pay off some debts?"
Although Addison had fainted during the opening of JZL Medical Clinic and Charles hadn't told her much afterward, she knew that James had developed significantly.
As for James being angry, she didn't care. She was Mary's mother; James wouldn't dare do anything to her.
Christopher also chimed in, "Yes, yes, we're all family. Don't be so petty."
Mary screamed, "You guys are shameless!"
"Alright, Mary, stop arguing." James stepped forward, picking up Addison's investment property deeds. "$11.2 million, I'll pay you, but you have to sign a contract. The property will be mine."
He considered this money as a way to make up for Mary.
"Dear James, no problem. I'll transfer it to you right away!" Addison burst into an obsequious smile, quickly drafting a contract and transferring all the property deeds from Emerald Country to James.
James didn't waste any time, transferring $11.2 million to Addison.
"Great, James, you didn't disappoint me," Seeing the $11.2 million credited to her account, Addison was thoroughly pleased. "In light of your progress, I'll let you stay in Peach Blossom Villa No. 1 for a few days. But if you want to reconcile with Mary, it will depend on your future performance."
James not only helped her pay off the debt but also bought her property, meaning she only lost the $300,000 she had previously earned in this turmoil.
As for the Smith Villa and CF Clinic, she had no intention of giving them to James.
"Why are you so foolish?" Mary poked James's head. "$32.2 million, and you bought a bunch of useless property deeds?"
"It's okay, I can handle it," James smiled, "Maybe I can turn waste into treasure."
Mary rolled her eyes at him. "Now that you have money, you're confident."
"Alright, cut the crap," Addison cleared her throat and coughed at James. "James, you can stay for a few days, but you still have to work like before."
She pointed at a middle-aged maid. "Go cook with Melissa Reynolds. We haven't eaten much all day."
She continued to give orders as usual, not letting James steal the spotlight or position.
"No time, order takeout yourself." James ignored Addison, picked up his phone, and walked to a corner by the door to call Raymond. "Raymond, I have a batch of land and houses confiscated by Emerald Country, mostly concentrated on Emerald Country's River Island."
James thought about minimizing his losses. "The current market value is about $30 million. Is there any way to get some of it back?"
"No problem," Raymond laughed, "It's a piece of cake, but I suggest you hold onto it for now."
James laughed, "Hold onto it? Will it appreciate? How much will it appreciate?"
Raymond lowered his voice. "At least tenfold."
