Chapter 453 Why
Marigold and the others were sure James had overheard their morning chat about the Mystic Alliance party and had shown up to crash it.
Coralie was surprised at first but then walked over instinctively.
"James, you came too?"
Coralie was dressed in a Floral Elegance outfit today. The soft, short skirt added a touch of charm and showcased her long legs in stockings. Her face was adorned with delicate makeup, and she exuded a faint scent of perfume, making her quite eye-catching under the lights.
Seeing Coralie greet him, James politely responded, "Yeah, thought I'd join the fun."
"Is this a place for you to join the fun?"
Marigold swayed her hips as she walked over, her face carrying a cold expression.
"Not to mention you don't have the qualifications to attend such a high-end party, even if you could come here to take a look, I'd advise you to leave immediately."
"Vance is looking for someone to deal with you. That night you said he was in for a disaster, he got beaten up badly. He believes it was your doing."
"You better be careful, or you might lose your life without even knowing it."
She then turned to scold Coralie, "Coralie, do you know what you're doing? Who told you to bring James here?"
"This is the Mystic Alliance's top-tier party. Without a certain status, you can't get in."
"We were able to come in thanks to Sidney." Marigold was furious. "Did you bring him here to embarrass Sidney?"
Coralie was stunned, then waved her hand. "Mom, I didn't invite James."
"You didn't invite him?" Marigold was taken aback, then turned to James and shouted, "So you followed Coralie here secretly?"
"What's wrong with you? Is it fun to pester us?"
"Didn't we make it clear this morning? You and Coralie are no longer related, and your father agreed to cancel the engagement. Why are you still clinging to us? You and Coralie are not from the same world."
"Not only are you pestering Coralie, but you also followed her to this place to cause trouble. Do you have any shame? Any limits?"
"Leave now, don't bring trouble to me, Coralie, and Sidney."
She impatiently waved her hand to shoo James away.
"James, maybe you should go." Coralie glanced around, seeing only wealthy and influential people, then looked at James and said, "This place really isn't suitable for you."
James looked at Marigold and smiled faintly, "I'm not here to find you or Coralie today. I'm here to attend the party too."
Tonight was a big night for the Mystic Alliance, and James didn't want to completely fall out with Marigold just yet.
Marigold sneered, "You, a kept man without a job, what are you attending with?"
"Come on, we know your background. Stop pretending and making a fool of yourself."
"If you weren't standing with us, the security would throw you out in no time."
Marigold was very annoyed by James's arrogance. He had no abilities but acted like he was the king of the world.
Not far away, Sidney also shook his head, indicating that James didn't know his place.
Coralie frowned. "James, you should leave quickly. If the security or Vance sees you, you'll be in big trouble."
She didn't mind someone trying to climb the social ladder, as people naturally strive for higher places, but they needed to have the capital to do so, like her.
Having nothing and relying on thick skin to fit in, wasn't that embarrassing?
"Coralie, let's go, stay away from this guy, so we don't embarrass ourselves." Marigold pulled Coralie away. "Let's see how long he can keep up the act without our protection."
"Are you James?"
Just as Sidney and Marigold were waiting to see James make a fool of himself, a cold voice suddenly came from the side.
Then, a few well-dressed men and women walked over.
Leading them was a young man with a buzz cut, wearing military boots, exuding an extraordinary aura.
Vance followed behind him, a sinister smile on his face.
James looked at them coldly.
"Kid, this is Francis Vasquez, the younger brother of Crazy Bear, the top warrior of the Mystic Alliance," Vance shouted arrogantly. "Aren't you going to kneel and greet him?"
"You had someone ambush me that night, beating me up badly. I've been looking for you."
"But here you are, delivering yourself to me. Today, I'm going to settle the score with interest." He roared viciously.
"Francis? Crazy Bear's brother? He's back?" Coralie frowned. She had heard Vance talk about Francis.
Arrogant, reckless, violent—any negative adjective could be found in Francis.
Even Crazy Bear had a hard time controlling him, so a few years ago, he was sent to the Mystic Alliance in Stardust City to be disciplined by the strong there.
Not far away, Sidney and Marigold were watching the scene with amusement.
Vance hadn't been able to deal with James, but Francis would surely teach James a lesson.
After all, Francis was second only to Ollie in notoriety.
Coralie sighed inwardly, feeling a bit of pity but mostly disappointment. 'James, James, everyone told you this wasn't a place for you, why didn't you listen?'
James looked at Vance and the others and spoke calmly, "Move aside."
"Kid, you're quite arrogant," Francis smirked.
"You dared to steal my friend's woman, beat him up, and now you're challenging me. You're quite bold."
"Here's the deal, today is a good day, and I don't want to see blood. Stand here and let my friend slap you."
"When he's satisfied and vented his anger, you can break one of your hands, and we'll call it even, how about that?"
"Don't refuse me. I hate it when people don't respect me. I'll break all your limbs."
He looked at James with disdain.
"You can also resist. But I have to tell you, besides the few people here, I have a dozen more thugs in the parking lot."
"They're all seasoned fighters. You can try their skills."
Francis wasn't one for a direct fight. He preferred to subdue his enemies without a battle.
This way, he could get revenge and feel a sense of accomplishment.
His pretty female companions giggled, convinced that James was in for a bad day.
Marigold, who had come closer, was gloating, waiting for James to kneel and beg for mercy.
She mocked inwardly, 'Realizing how harsh reality was, right? Without Bruce's protection, you can't take a step in Glowing Oasis.'
James spoke coldly, "If you don't move, you'll be the ones in trouble."
The whole room was shocked by his words.
Coralie and the others gasped, looking at him.
Francis was known for his violent temper and fighting, the notorious troublemaker of Glowing Oasis. He'd been involved in brawls countless times.
"In trouble?" Sure enough, Francis sneered, "Say that again?"
James's tone was icy, "If you don't get lost, you'll be in big trouble today."
Francis laughed wildly, "Why?"
At that moment, a foot suddenly kicked Francis in the waist.
Francis grunted and fell to the ground, his face covered in dirt, looking very disheveled.
He got up angrily and turned around, then his face changed dramatically.
Ollie, with a cigarette in his mouth, swaggered over with his men, looking arrogant.
"Because he's my boss, is that enough?"
He backhanded Francis, sending him flying again.
