Chapter 316 Amanda is Here

After giving Patricia thirty pills, James left the hotel.

With these items, James believed Patricia could alleviate the pressure on the Lee family. He decided not to intervene directly for now, giving Patricia the time and space to prove herself.

As soon as James returned to JZL Medical Clinic, Mary appeared. She pulled James into her car and sped off.

"Ms. Smith, where are you taking me?" On the way, James curiously asked, "I still have patients."

"It's already six. What patients?" Mary casually responded to James while turning the steering wheel. "I'm taking you to an antique shop to help me buy something. Aren't you good at appraising things?"

She added, "Help me pick out a jade piece worth around $70,000, whether it's a bracelet, ring, or necklace. The quality must be good."

James was slightly taken aback. "Hanging out at an antique shop.? For Charles?"

He thought for a moment and realized it wasn't Christmas yet, and Charles's fiftieth birthday had just passed. Why buy jade? And such an expensive one at that.

"It's not for my dad; it's for Grandma Smith," Mary sighed, "She's coming to Rosewood City for a visit in the next few days."

"Grandma Smith?" James squinted slightly, "Amanda? Your landlord? Jane's grandmother?"

He didn't know much about the Smith Family, but thinking about Jane being ousted and her backer, James guessed it was Amanda.

Mary nodded, "That's right, it's her."

"She had been recuperating abroad, but yesterday, she suddenly called me that she wanted to visit Rosewood City and asked us to prepare for her arrival," Mary looked ahead, "I think she's coming back for Jane."

"Jane still hasn't given up?" James chuckled indifferently, "And her actions are quite laughable. She can't beat you, so she brings out the older generation?"

"Whatever her intentions are, we still need to show proper respect to Grandma Smith."

Mary smiled wryly, "Even though her branch is the weakest and has the fewest people, she's still an elder of the Smith family. Every Christmas, even my Uncle Nicholas has to visit her personally. So when we heard she was coming to Rosewood City, my parents got very nervous and listed everything she likes to eat, drink, and want on paper. Today, they constantly urged me to buy a gift. I don't know much about jade, and my dad doesn't either, so I had to ask for your help."

She glanced at the thoughtful James, "Any problem? Don't want to accompany me?"

James smiled and waved his hand, "No, I just feel that if Amanda comes, your family is going to be in chaos again."

Mary rolled her eyes at James. "If I can't have peace, I want you to suffer with me."

James asked, "Is this your way of showing affection?"

Mary tossed James a fierce glare and blurted out, "Get lost!"

She pinched James and was about to speed up towards the antique shop when her phone vibrated.

She put on her Bluetooth headset to answer, and after a moment, she was slightly taken aback. "What? Grandma Smith is almost at the airport? She wants the whole family to pick her up?"

After hanging up, she frowned.

James asked, "What's wrong? Mrs. Smith has already arrived?"

"Yes, in half an hour," Mary checked the time, "Damn Jane, only calling us now, clearly trying to catch us off guard."

The airport was an hour away, and they hadn't bought a gift yet. Mary felt annoyed.

"Forget about buying the gift for now, let's head straight to the airport," James suggested, "The gift can be bought later, but don't be late for the pickup, or Grandma Smith will definitely be angry."

Amanda, who asked Charles's family to pick her up, was definitely not easy to deal with.

Mary nodded, "So be it."

She stepped on the gas pedal hard, rushing to the airport as fast as possible to avoid being scolded for being late.

Half an hour later, a red BMW sped into the airport and quickly arrived at the pickup spot Jane had notified them of.

After parking the car, James followed Mary out and saw that there were already a dozen people standing at the VIP exit, with six cars parked.

Charles, Addison, Kaitlyn, Abigail, and Jane were all there, along with a group of Smiths and bodyguards.

They were respectfully surrounding an elderly woman with white hair.

The white-haired woman was tall, radiant, with sharp eyes and a prominent nose. She held a cane and exuded an aura of authority.

She gave off the impression of being extremely difficult to get along with.

However, the hook-nosed woman hiding behind her was quite different. Although she was thin, she exuded an air of coldness and emptiness.

She gave off an unremarkable vibe, standing in a secluded spot, but she could observe the entire entrance area well.

"Mary, where have you been?" As soon as Mary and James appeared, Jane shouted, "I told you Grandma was coming, and you didn't hurry to greet her? You let her wait in the sun for half an hour. Aren't you ashamed?"

She immediately started criticizing Mary. "Is it because you're the new CEO that you're acting all high and mighty? Not even respecting Grandma?"

Amanda also looked up at Mary, snorted coldly, and her displeasure was evident.

Even the usually fierce Addison remained silent, looking down like a meek daughter-in-law.

"Sorry, Grandma, we encountered a huge traffic jam, so we were late," Mary held back James, who was about to speak, and stepped forward to explain to Amanda. "I'm really sorry for keeping you waiting."

Charles tried to ease the tension. "Be more mindful next time."

"What traffic? Who are you trying to fool? The navigation shows clear roads." Jane was determined to embarrass Mary. "And even if you knew Grandma was coming, couldn't you have waited in advance? Each one of you is more lax than the other, all arriving late. If I hadn't come in time, Grandma would have been so angry she would have gone straight home."

She mockingly glanced at Mary and her family. "Your clearly don't value Grandma. Indeed, it's unacceptable. Knowing Grandma was coming, you didn't prepare well, arrived late, and didn't even buy a gift or flowers. If it were me, I would have stayed at the airport to greet Grandma first thing. It seems you've become arrogant after becoming CEO, forgetting the Smith Family's hierarchy and etiquette. Don't you know that everything you have today is because of the Smith Family and Grandma?"

Several useless Smiths also started criticizing Mary, saying she was too proud.

"Jane, enough already!" Before Mary could speak, Kaitlyn couldn't hold back and retorted, "Mary's just helped you cover your despicable tricks, and you think none of us know that? You called us only forty minutes ago. Whether from the Smith Villa or TG Company, it takes at least an hour to get here. I just want to ask, how did you get here during rush hour?"

Kaitlyn didn't hold back, "Did you fly here?"

"Kaitlyn, watch your mouth! Mom, I'm sorry, it's our fault." Addison nodded and bowed, apologizing, then kept signaling to Mary. "Mary, where's the gift you were supposed to buy for Grandma? Take it out quickly."

In this situation, no amount of explanation could compare to a gift.

Mary's face changed slightly.
