Chapter 236 There's Still Hope

Olivia showing up made James spend a good half hour explaining things to Michelle.

To keep Michelle out of the loop, James even said he liked Olivia, but she wasn't into him yet, and calling them dad and mom was just messing around tonight.

He asked Michelle to keep her distance to avoid hurting Olivia's reputation.

When Michelle heard they weren't a couple, she looked bummed out, then sternly told James to start dating Olivia ASAP. She didn't want to see Olivia with another guy.

James couldn't argue with Michelle, so he found an excuse to bail.

The next morning, James got up early, practiced the "Shadowless Heart Sutra," and had Samuel take him to Harmony Care Hospital. He was still thinking about Larry's death.

After saying hi to Katherine, James headed straight to Larry's ward.

Since it was a murder case and Larry was a big deal, the ward had been guarded for days, with no outsiders allowed to mess with the crime scene.

James crossed the police line, opened the door, and felt a cold, bloody air hit him. He waved it away and scanned the room.

The room was about thirty square feet, with medical instruments and living facilities neatly arranged. No signs of struggle, intact doors and windows, and no bloodstains on the walls or ceiling.

"Larry was killed before he could react," James murmured. "The police got it right."

The cops said the killer came in through the window, stabbed Larry quickly, and left the same way. The whole thing took less than ten minutes, and the guards didn't notice.

But the police couldn't ID the killer or the murder weapon.

James searched the room but found nothing. He remembered his thoughts at Peach Blossom Villa No. 1, glanced at the doors and windows, and walked to the window.

Outside was a lush willow tree, blocking most sunlight and sending in a cool breeze.

James squinted, reached out, and grabbed a branch. It was green and warm, showing strong vitality, but the end was broken.

He broke off another piece and examined the cut. It was old but not too recent. He touched it lightly and found it prickly.

"James! James!" A shout interrupted his thoughts. "Help! Help!"

James turned and saw Charles running in frantically, followed by a dozen angry men and women. Further back was a middle-aged couple holding a child, tear-streaked and hysterical.

The girl had a ponytail and a delicate face but looked dark and tense.

Panicked, Charles closed the door, blocked it with a hospital bed to keep out the angry crowd, and took out his phone to call the police.

James was puzzled. "Charles, what's going on?"

"An unexpected disaster," Charles said, hiding behind James. "I was handling Mary's discharge paperwork and saw a child in the hallway saying she was hungry. I gave her a box of jelly Kaitlyn bought for Mary. She ate it too quickly, choked, and passed out. She couldn't be saved. The family was furious, beat me, and accused me of being a human trafficker, causing a mob to attack me."

Charles grabbed James's clothes and shouted, "James, save me!"

At that moment, the door broke open, and a dozen people rushed in, shouting, "Beat him to death!"

"Stop!" Seeing the mob ready to beat Charles, James instinctively stepped in to block them.

He used his hands to push and sweep, knocking seven or eight people back.

"Bastard, you brought help to fight back?" The middle-aged man was furious. "Beat him up!"

The crowd screamed and charged again.

James didn't waste words. He punched the iron wardrobe, and with a loud bang, it shattered.

The room fell silent.

Everyone, including the middle-aged couple, was stunned by his strength.

But soon, the crowd erupted again, "How dare you kill someone and then threaten us with violence?"

"I'm not afraid of you. If you have the guts, kill us too."

"Yeah, if you're so tough, kill us all."

"Call the police! Tell them there's a human trafficker here who killed a child and is now attacking people."

The dozen people angrily accused, their eyes like knives, ready to kill James and Charles.

"Shut up! Everyone be quiet! Make way, I'm a doctor, let me see." Before the middle-aged couple could attack, James quickly parted the crowd and went straight to the child.

Maybe it was James's commanding presence, or maybe his composure, but the room calmed down a bit.

"James, what are you doing? Are you crazy?" Charles was shocked; the child was already dead, and any further action would only make the family angrier.

"Stop crying, the child can still be saved," James said as he took the child in his arms. "Give me half an hour, and I'll give you back your daughter."

The child had no pulse or heartbeat, but her pupils hadn't dilated, and her soul hadn't departed. The Nine Palace Reviving Needle could bring back a trace of life.

"What? The child can still be saved?"

"Is she really savable? You're not lying, are you?"

The middle-aged couple grabbed James's arm, filled with disbelief but also a glimmer of hope.

"Stay quiet, I'm going to save her."

James didn't waste words. He placed the child on the bed and took out silver needles for disinfection.

The room fell silent; there was no better option at the moment.

Just then, a contemptuous voice spoke coldly, "The doctors have already declared her dead. How can you save her? This is just a trick. Besides, who has ever seen such a young doctor?"

The crowd buzzed with doubt.

James frowned and glanced at the door, noticing a cold figure at the back of the crowd.

It was Sarah, whom he had seen at Peach Blossom Villa No. 3.

She was dressed in Floral Elegance, with exquisite makeup and a haughty expression, accompanied by several assistants and bodyguards.

James guessed she had passed by out of curiosity and, seeing him as the rescuer, decided to mock him.

It was clear her assistant had told her about the "foolish woman" comment.

James ignored her, focusing on the silver needles. Soon, after completing the Nine Palace Reviving Needle, he locked onto a trace of life in the little girl.

But she didn't wake up as James had expected.

James muttered, "Strange, why isn't she waking up?"

At that moment, Sarah's voice rang out again. "I told you, he's a fraud, just putting on a show. If he were really capable, he wouldn't be stuck in this small hospital, unknown in Rosewood City. Better stop him now, or the dead will suffer even more."

She sneered, "The family should turn him over to the cops before he causes more deaths with his tricks."

Her words incited the middle-aged couple again, and they angrily cursed at James, "I shouldn't have trusted you. You're all in this together. Killing my daughter wasn't enough, now you want to desecrate her body. How could my Kimberly be so unlucky?"

"Beat him to death! Beat these two bastards! They're human traffickers, pretending to save her to escape." The crowd was once again filled with righteous indignation, their eyes now on Charles by the window.

Charles's legs went weak, and he tugged at James's sleeve. "James, call the police, call the police."

"How could I forget this?" James ignored the crowd's anger, focusing on Kimberly. The Nine Palace Reviving Needle was fine, but why hadn't Kimberly woken up?

After thinking for a moment, James suddenly slapped his forehead.
