Chapter 150 Short-sighted
At eleven o'clock at night, James returned to the Smith Family villa.
He had an additional badge in his hand. The badge was pitch black, hard in texture, with a tiger engraved on the front and a character on the back.
This was a precious gift from Aaron to James.
In tonight's battle, James killed Kylie with a single sword strike, not only earning the respect of many but also winning Aaron's genuine admiration.
For the sake of his mother's life and his own, Aaron gave James the badge while they were drinking together.
With this badge, James could not only access SH Group's funds but also mobilize any of its forces at any time.
He had the power of life and death over high-ranking members like Jacob.
James' status in SH Group was almost equivalent to Aaron's, which also meant Aaron would unconditionally protect James.
Although James didn't like the violent and chaotic atmosphere, he felt that having an extra card up his sleeve would be an additional means of self-protection, so he ultimately accepted it.
However, his high spirits suddenly cooled down when he saw Mary.
"You're back?"
Mary wasn't hiding in her room but was sitting on the sofa in the small living room of the suite, her sharp eyes fixed on the indifferent James.
James responded with a grunt, "What's up?"
"I thought you were so reliant on Aaron that you looked down on us and didn't want to come back." Mary's eyes were cold as she looked at James. "What, Aaron didn't keep you, and neither did Olivia?"
James frowned slightly. "Can you speak properly?"
"Deliberately blocking us from entering Enchanted Vine Tavern, scaring my sister with a gun in public, and slapping Joseph twice." Mary's tone remained icy. "You teamed up with outsiders to bully the Smith Family members, how do you expect me to talk to you properly?"
In fact, she understood many things and knew they had little to do with James, but thinking of Olivia, she just wanted to provoke James.
"There's nothing to say, I'm going to wash up and sleep."James rubbed his aching head. "I have things to do tomorrow."
At the banquet, Taylor pulled his arm, asking James to go to the antique town with her the next day. She wanted to personally show James which piece of land belonged to him.
James couldn't resist Taylor's soft and hard tactics, so he agreed to go with her tomorrow.
He could tell that Taylor wanted to spend some time alone with him.
"Annoyed with me? It seems like you really forget the old when you have the new." Mary's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Fine, I won't provoke you anymore. Now explain things to me."
James was slightly taken aback. "Explain? Explain what?"
"Tell me," Mary spoke lightly, "how did you get Patrick and the others to flatter you, and how did you make Aaron value you so much and even book a venue for you?"
Thinking of how James was so respected and flattered by Jacob and the others, Mary felt a bit dazed, finding it very unreal.
But she quickly became mocking again.
"What's there to explain?" James looked at Mary in front of him and replied. "Besides, even if I tell you, you won't believe it."
Mary's pretty face darkened as she said, "Go on!"
It was clear that tonight, no matter what, she wanted James to explain. Even though she already had an answer in her heart, she still wanted to hear it from James.
Seeing Mary so stubborn, James loosened his collar, took a step forward, and stared at her pretty face.
"Fine, you want an explanation, I'll give you one."
"I'm exceptionally skilled in martial arts and medicine."
"I brought Sophia back to life."
"I single-handedly took down SH Corporation."
"I removed the centipede from Raymond's stomach."
"I unblocked Mrs. Green's reproductive meridians."
"I saved the life of the shot David."
"I preserved Gabriella's youth."
"I defied fate and gave Mrs. Collins five more years to live."
"I took in three famous doctors as disciples in one go and drove away Alexander in a single match."
"The dignitaries of Rosewood City, most of them owe me favors, respect my medical and martial arts skills, and genuinely want to befriend me."
James' eyes were like lightning, his body leaning forward bit by bit, staring directly at Mary's cold face.
"So David gave me the Audi, so Raymond gave me the Alluring Love Diamond, so Andrew gave me Peach Blossom No. 1."
"And Aaron gave me this badge."
"Now, I'm not the number one in Rosewood City, but I can walk around Rosewood City with ease. Whether it's money or connections, I can get them effortlessly."
"Even Summit Villa is within reach."
"Are you satisfied with these explanations?"
As James listed one thing after another, Mary's pretty face grew colder and colder, eventually turning as cold as ice.
"Enough!" She slapped the sofa, stood up, and shouted, "James, I want you to explain properly, not to talk nonsense. Can you stop being so self-righteous?"
Mary couldn't hold back anymore. She never expected James to be so arrogant.
"Don't even mention that you only watched medical lectures on TV and have average medical skills. Even if you were exceptionally talented, what do you have to compare with Mark and the others?"
"Do you think I would believe that what you learned from TV is better than what others have accumulated over decades?"
"Do you think I don't know that you were able to squeeze into the so-called upper-class circle all because of Olivia's maneuvering?"
"Whether it's Patrick, Raymond, or Aaron, they all treat you as a distinguished guest because of Olivia's face, don't they?"
"See if they would even bother with you without Olivia's backing?"
"Wake up, there's no such thing as a free lunch."
"Especially with Olivia, you've received so many favors from her and used her resources to make connections with dignitaries. Do you think you don't have to repay her?"
"I don't know what Olivia sees in you, but I know that once you lose your value, you'll pay back tenfold for what you've enjoyed."
She was convinced that James would get into trouble sooner or later, and Olivia's methods were not something James could contend with.
James' emotions didn't fluctuate, as if he had expected Mary not to believe him. He smiled faintly. "See, I told you, you wouldn't believe it, yet you insisted on me explaining."
"I want you to explain, not to talk nonsense." Mary was very disappointed. "Besides, even if you're lying, at least make it believable."
"You said you saved Aaron's mother, meaning my mom was released and received $1,562,500 in compensation because of you? Isn't that nonsense?"
"My sister and the others all know that it was Joseph's parents who pleaded for her, so mom could come out safely. It had nothing to do with you."
"This alone proves that everything you just said is nonsense."
Mary glared at James fiercely.
"It seems you have no intention of explaining. Fine, I won't force you."
After saying that, she turned and went into the inner room, closing the door behind her.
James wasn't angry, just sighed lightly, "Short-sighted."
