Chapter 252 Confrontation

"Hey, who the heck are you guys?" Samuel yelled out, his voice shaky.

James put a hand on Samuel's shoulder, trying to calm him down. He turned to the sharp-faced guy and smirked, "So, you've been tailing me for two days and finally decided to show yourself, huh?"

The sharp-faced guy, Sadie, had been on James' trail for a while. Hearing James, he looked a bit surprised but quickly sneered, "You knew I was watching and still wandered around alone? Got a death wish or something?"

Sadie scanned the area, saw no backup, and felt a bit more confident.

"I'm only twenty-five, man. I've got plenty of living left to do," James said, still standing coolly in the pavilion. "I don't sweat you guys 'cause you're no match for me."

Sadie was taken aback for a second but then laughed, "You're cocky. I know you're banking on Francis. Too bad he's not here to save you. Actually, he can't even save himself right now."

Sadie taunted, "I've got over a hundred guys going after him."

James just shrugged, "A hundred guys? Still not enough for Francis."

Sadie laughed harder, "You really don't get it, do you? My guys might not be as good as Leopold, but they're tough. No way Francis can take them all. And even if he does, it won't matter. He's so loyal to you, if we nab you, he'll fold."

"That's why I brought thirty guys to corner you," Sadie said smugly. "Just to make sure nothing goes wrong."

Samuel, looking worried, stepped in front of James, "Don't try anything, or I'll call the cops."

Even though he knew James could fight, Samuel was still nervous about one guy against thirty thugs.

"Call the cops?" Sadie sneered. "Go ahead, if you can get a signal, I'll admit defeat."

Samuel pulled out his phone, but there was no signal.

Sadie barked, "Get him!"

Thirty masked men started closing in.

Sadie pulled out a knife and moved closer too.

The backyard went dead silent as everyone raised their knives, the cold steel glinting in the evening light.

"I don't like fighting, but that doesn't mean I'm a pushover," James said, not even glancing at the approaching men. "Anyone who wants me dead better be ready to die."

He placed his right hand on the cold stone table. There was a pattern in the middle of it.

Sadie shouted, "Go!"

The masked men rushed forward, knives flashing.

At that moment, James turned the stone table.

With a loud bang, thousands of nails shot up from the grass.

The guys in front couldn't stop in time and stepped right onto the nails, their feet getting pierced.

Blood splattered, and screams filled the air.

Sadie roared, "Jump over and kill him!"

As the attackers moved, a sharp sound rang out, and ropes with barbed hooks sprang from the ground, catching legs and bodies, drawing blood.

A dozen attackers fell, screaming.

Before the others could react, James slapped the table again, and crossbow bolts shot out from the pavilion and rockery.

Over a hundred bolts took down another dozen guys.

The scene was chaos, blood everywhere.

"Damn it!" Sadie cursed as a bolt flew towards him. He jumped back as fast as he could.

Out of the original thirty-plus guys, only five or six were left.

Sadie was shocked, "When did you set up these traps?"

James smirked, "After I knew you were following me."

"I was hoping to take out a hundred or two, but you only brought a few dozen. What a waste. You were so focused on Francis, you didn't take me, a little doctor, seriously." He looked at Sadie and grinned, "So today, you're out of luck."

Sadie couldn't hold back his anger, "James, you're so shameless."

"You guys came to kill me, a little doctor, and I'mthe shameless one?" James sneered. "As long as I kill you, I'm safe. So what if it's shameless?"

"James, we underestimated you," Sadie shouted. "But you also underestimated us. Even with over twenty of us down, the few of us left can still take you out."

Sadie always thought James was just a cocky guy who relied too much on Francis.

Six of Sadie's buddies pulled out shotguns, aiming them right at James and Samuel in the pavilion.

Sadie, holding a club, sneered, "Time to turn you into Swiss cheese."

"Fire!" he ordered.

But before they could pull the trigger, six gunshots rang out from outside.

The six guys aiming at James dropped to the ground, each with a bullet hole in their head. Their shotguns clattered to the floor.

Sadie spun around, eyes wide.

A dozen people in tactical gear stormed in, led by a woman in her thirties with a gun. She was tall and striking, with a sharp nose, thin lips, and cold eyes, exuding an air of arrogance.

Two other women, just as tough-looking, flanked her, their faces hard as stone.

James remembered Olivia mentioning she had sent someone to protect him—Phoebe.

"No one messes with the people I protect," Phoebe said, leading her team towards Sadie and his men. "You gonna surrender, or do I have to break you first?"

"Phoebe?" Sadie’s face twisted in shock. "You guys are back?"

He recognized them as Olivia's elite team, sent off for special training three years ago. He had almost forgotten about them.

"Since you know who I am, why aren't you on your knees?" Phoebe blew on her smoking silenced pistol. "Do you really want to piss me off?"

She glanced at James, then at the pit filled with bodies, her eyes full of disdain. Only someone weak like James would need traps. Someone like her would just crush Sadie and his men outright.

James noticed her disdain but didn’t care. He sensed a strong presence approaching.

Sadie, still defiant, snorted, "Surrender? In your dreams..."

Before he could finish, Phoebe lunged and kicked him, sending him flying into a rockery. Bones cracked, and he screamed in pain.

Several of Sadie's men tried to fight back but were quickly taken down by Phoebe's team.

Phoebe stepped on Sadie, sneering, "With your pathetic skills, you dare challenge Miss Lee? Neil must be rolling in his grave."

She looked up at James again, her presence overwhelming, like a giant looking down at an ant. She couldn’t understand why Olivia would send her to protect someone like James.

She thought the fighters in Rosewood City were weak. If she had been there, she could have taken down The Bennett Group and ten Leopolds by herself.

She looked at James, lounging around, and found it ridiculous.

Phoebe kicked Sadie over, "The Bennett Group is full of nobodies."

"Self-righteous fools," a voice called out from outside, leaves rustling.

A figure flew in, and Phoebe saw a flash of a sword, swift and direct like falling rain.

She had no time to dodge and fired at the sword light, but the bullet missed. The sword light stayed cold and deadly.

Phoebe's face paled. She raised her left hand, blocking with a dagger. The sound of metal clashing echoed.

Under everyone's gaze, Phoebe staggered back, blood spilling from her mouth.

Sadie and his men were stunned.

Five seconds later, Phoebe stopped, leaning against a tree, blood trickling from her mouth. She had taken a serious hit.

Before she could recover, a sword was pressed against her forehead, cold and sharp.

A woman in a black veil had appeared, and the place fell silent.

James squinted, "Montgomery?"
