Chapter 365 Back Out

James quickly agreed to Milo's invitation.

He left his phone number, accepted the one million dollar deposit, and then left the Marco Polo Bar with Kaitlyn.

As soon as they reached the parking lot, Kaitlyn asked James to wait while she went to the restroom.

James waited quietly.

Halfway through, a graceful figure appeared. Seraphina, holding her handbag, walked up to James and nodded slightly. "Hey, James."

Up close, James noticed that Seraphina looked even more beautiful than she did in the bar, with her perfect features, long legs, and an air of maturity.

Curious about her greeting, he asked, "Ms. Murphy, is there something you need?"

"Honestly, I don't want people to know that my father is Milo, the president of Glowing Oasis." Seraphina's tone was resigned. "But this circle is so small, my identity always gets exposed, and I hardly have any close friends."

James was puzzled, not understanding her point.

"Kaitlyn is a friend I just met, but she's genuine and unpretentious, so I consider her a true friend." Seraphina looked at James and said, "I genuinely care about Kaitlyn, so I want to have a heart-to-heart with you tonight."

James was still confused. "Go ahead, say what you need to say."

"Straightforward. I don't want you to participate in tomorrow's fight. Find a way to back out."

Seraphina's words were shocking. "As for the one million dollars, I'll repay my father for you, and I'll speak well of you so he won't hold you responsible."

James was stunned. "Why? Don't you want your father to win?"

"Whether my father wins or not, you won't make much of a difference." Seraphina's gaze fixed on James. "Despite your impressive performance at the bar, I don't think your skills are that great."

"You beat Ezra and the others mostly because they underestimated you. In a real fight, you wouldn't stand a chance."

She wanted James to understand his own abilities.

"Tomorrow, you'll be facing top fighters from the Mystic Alliance. In a real match, you'll definitely lose."

"So I hope you can back out of this fight. It's better for you, for Kaitlyn, and for my father."

Seraphina's tone was firm. "In short, back out of tomorrow's fight."

To minimize casualties, Milo and Ruby had agreed to each send ten people to fight. Whoever's fighters stood last would become the president.

In Seraphina's view, James was far inferior to Crazy Bear and the others; he was insignificant in tomorrow's fight.

But his life mattered to Kaitlyn, so Seraphina wanted to persuade James to withdraw.

James looked at Seraphina and smiled. "I accepted your father's one million dollars, so I'll be there tomorrow no matter what."

"Why are you so stubborn? Just back out, and I'll handle the rest."

Seraphina couldn't understand. She had made her point clear, but James still didn't get it.

James spoke with double meaning, "I'm not stubborn; I just have confidence in handling tomorrow's situation."

"It's not as simple as you think." Seraphina's pretty face grew increasingly frustrated. "Just so you know, I just got word that Ruby has regained her strength and is unbeatable."

"Do you know who Ruby is?"

"She's not just a woman; she's the dream girl of countless Glowing Oasis men and the idol of Mystic Alliance members."

Seraphina spoke earnestly, "Her skills are far beyond your imagination. Even my father can't beat her."

She had a good relationship with Kaitlyn, and James had shown some promise at the bar, so she didn't want him to do something foolish.

"I appreciate your kindness." James forced a smile. "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."

"James, don't be so naive." Seraphina's face turned cold. "If it weren't for Kaitlyn, I wouldn't even bother with you."

"Your arrogance will cost you, maybe even your life."

She was frustrated. "To be clear, my father is using you as cannon fodder. His real reliance is on Crazy Bear, the top fighter."

"You can still back out now. Tomorrow, even I won't be able to help you."

Seraphina was really angry. She had tried to persuade James not to be cannon fodder, but he wouldn't listen, wasting her efforts.

James remained calm. "I know you're looking out for me, but I really don't need it."

"Fine!" Seraphina lost her patience and her gentle demeanor, her voice sharp. "I'll tell you this: if you show up at the fight tomorrow, you and Kaitlyn are done."

"I won't allow Kaitlyn to date a reckless man like you."

Seraphina's eyes were resolute, and she walked away with her handbag.

Almost at the same time, Kaitlyn was on the phone with Mary. "Hey Mary, are you asleep?"

Mary's indifferent voice came from the other end. "If you have something to say, say it. If not, I'm hanging up. I'm busy."

Kaitlyn pouted. "Why are you still so unapproachable? No wonder James has a fear of marriage."

Mary's voice turned stern. "Kaitlyn, I'm hanging up."

"No, wait, Mary, I have something to tell you." Kaitlyn quickly laughed and said, "I went to the bar with the crew tonight, and guess who I saw?"

"I saw James, yes, James. He was drinking alone, downing five or six bottles of vodka."

"I went over to say hi, but he couldn't even see me clearly. He kept calling out for Mary, Mary."

Kaitlyn's eyes darted around. "He looked so lovesick, he could star in a tragic romance."

"Are you done with your stupid stories?" Mary scolded her bluntly. "And don't mention his name in front of me again."

"See, you still care about James, don't you? Otherwise, why would you avoid mentioning him?" Kaitlyn teased, then quickly laughed. "Mary, I'm not lying. I'll send you some photos later, and you'll see."

"Kaitlyn, don't get involved in these things. I don't want to see him or know what he's doing." Mary's voice grew colder. "Stop bothering me with him, okay?"

"Alright, since you hate James so much, I won't mention him again." Kaitlyn sighed. "I was going to tell you that he's been missing you so much that he signed a death match contract to relieve his stress."

"The fight is tomorrow night, and I heard his opponent is really tough. James isn't in good shape right now, and I think he might die this time."

With that, Kaitlyn suddenly hung up the phone and immediately turned it off, then bounced out of the restroom.

Meanwhile, in Stardust City, Joseph District, in a building labeled Phoenix Tower, the chairman's office on the eighteenth floor was brightly lit.

Mary sat in her chair, repeatedly dialing her sister's number, but Kaitlyn had already turned off her phone.

She tried Kaitlyn's other number, but no one answered. Mary suddenly grew angry and threw her phone at the floor-to-ceiling window.

With a loud crash, the bulletproof glass shook but quickly returned to its usual calm.

The phone, however, shattered into pieces.

The noise prompted the door to silently open, and a dozen bodyguards, hands on their weapons, rushed in.

"It's nothing, get out!"

Mary stood up and walked to the broken phone, looking at the shattered pieces, seeing her reflection, her anger.

And her sorrow.
