Chapter 229 Mary Has an Epiphany
Ruby hit the ground, screaming in pain.
She tried to get up but ended up coughing blood and collapsing again.
The Los Angeles Mystic Alliance members gasped.
Mia had actually crippled Ruby. It was wild to think James's casual advice had such a huge impact.
They looked at Mia and James, stunned and angry, feeling like they'd just seen the impossible.
Scott and Bruce now respected James even more.
James wasn't just powerful; he could make others powerful too, making him even more valuable.
Before, they just wanted to be friends with him. Now, they needed to get on his good side.
Mia admired James even more.
"The most powerful disciple in Los Angeles?" James sneered at Ruby. "Not impressive."
Ruby's face turned pale with rage, but she knew the gap between her and James was huge.
Just moments ago, she bragged about killing James with one punch. Now, the tables had turned.
Her three killer moves were a joke, and James didn't even lift a finger; he just guided Mia.
This was her first taste of defeat and humiliation.
"James, I lost today, but that doesn't mean the Los Angeles Mystic Alliance is beaten." Ruby raised her head. "They'll avenge me sooner or later."
James stomped on her other leg, breaking it.
"If you're crippled, the others are even more worthless."
Ruby was filled with grief and anger but didn't dare to shout anymore.
"You're too weak, no surprise, really disappointing." James shook his head, then looked at the Los Angeles Mystic Alliance members.
"Anyone here to surprise me?"
They all lowered their heads.
If Ruby was defeated, rushing up would be suicide.
"No surprises? It's time to settle accounts. I'm not a good person, and I hold grudges. Those who wanted to see me fail, break one of your hands and get lost." James's tone was firm. "Otherwise, if I take action, you'll be completely crippled."
A young man with a crew cut shouted, "We are members of Los Angeles."
James slapped him, knocking out a few teeth.
"So what? I'm hitting Los Angeles members. Not satisfied? Make a move then. I'm not stopping you."
James's gaze was sharp and cold, making the Los Angeles Mystic Alliance members break out in a cold sweat.
"Mia, break both of their hands."
James kicked the crew-cut guy, then left with Scott.
An hour later, James showed up at Harmony Care Hospital to visit Larry.
As he entered the lobby, a familiar figure grabbed his arm and shouted, "James, are you here to see Mary?"
Kaitlyn, full of joy, pulled James along. "I knew you still cared about Mary. Come on, I'll take you up."
James hesitated. "Kaitlyn, I came to the hospital..."
"I'm taking care of Mary today. My parents went home, so you won't see anything that upsets you." Kaitlyn ignored him and pulled James into the elevator. "Mary's mentioned you a few times, wanting to thank you, but she's too proud to call."
She pressed the button for the eighth floor.
James thought about Larry on the thirteenth floor and decided to visit Mary first.
"Why would she call me?" James smiled wryly. "I got the Smith Family involved, got Mary involved. It's good enough she doesn't hate me, let alone thank me."
Kaitlyn smiled. "We know Damon and his men were sent back to Stardust City with broken limbs. If it wasn't you, who else could it be?"
James chuckled. "Do you think I have that capability? Maybe they provoked someone else."
Kaitlyn tilted her head. "It can't be a coincidence, and you said last night things would be resolved today, so it's most likely you."
James patted Kaitlyn's head to change the subject. "By the way, how's Mary doing?"
Kaitlyn giggled. "I don't know. If you want to know, ask her yourself. I'm not your messenger."
They walked out of the elevator. Kaitlyn pulled James to Mary's ward and shouted inside:
"Mary, James is here. You two have a good time. I'm going to have lunch. Don't come out until you've talked for at least an hour."
She pushed James in, locked the door, and ran off.
"Kaitlyn," James called out, but seeing the door was locked, he turned to look at the bed.
Mary, in a hospital gown, still looked graceful and alluring.
On the bed, Mary looked at him with eyes full of emotion.
James felt a bit awkward. "Mary, are you okay?"
Mary didn't respond directly, just extended a hand. "Aren't you a doctor? Come check on me."
James was taken aback, feeling like Mary had changed, losing her pride and reserve.
But he didn't hesitate, took a deep breath, stepped forward, and sat by the bed, then took her wrist.
Before James could diagnose, Mary extended her other arm and hooked it around James's neck.
In the next second, she pulled him down with force.
Caught off guard, James lost his balance and fell onto Mary. "Mary," he called out.
Mary tightly hugged James, her voice incredibly gentle. "James, do you still like me?"
James's body trembled slightly, looking up at Mary's charming face. "We are divorced."
"I asked if you still like me?" Mary held James's neck tightly, inhaling his scent, her face showing an indescribable intoxication.
James was confused. What was going on with Mary?
Wasn't this something a man should do?
"If you don't answer, I'll take it as a yes. You like me, and I like you. Don't leave me again." Mary licked her lips, looking at him like a delicious meal. "James, you're the only man I've ever wanted."
James felt it was hard to breathe.
He coughed. "Mary, what are you doing?"
"Of course, it's..."
Mary's face moved closer to James, her lips curling up, exuding an unprecedented allure.
In the next second, her soft, delicious lips kissed James.
