Chapter 134 Stepped on Together

Leading the way was a voluptuous woman, around forty years old, tall and imposing, yet still exuding femininity.

She was accompanied by four or five men and women, all of whom looked arrogant, clearly used to being flattered.

The pretty-faced female doctor and her colleagues brightened up and greeted her, "Violet."

Alexander also showed a glimmer of hope as if his daughter's appearance could save his shop and reputation.

The middle-aged woman nodded and then approached Alexander, asking, "Dad, what's going on?"

Alexander pointed at James, saying, "Violet, he came to challenge me, forcing me into a medical and poison duel, trying to take over my shop and drive me out of Rosewood City."

"He even forced me to drink a bowl of poison. Luckily, I survived, or I'd be dead by now."

Compared to his reputation, Alexander cared more about money. If he could keep his million-dollar clinic and herbs, he didn't mind being scorned.

The onlookers were all in an uproar, not expecting Alexander to be so shameless.

Daniel wanted to say something, but James waved him off.

James had anticipated that. Given Alexander's character, he would refuse to admit defeat. Now that someone had come to interfere, he decided to watch and see what would happen.

Since they came, they would all be dealt with together.

"Challenge? And poison duel? Nonsense!" Violet, with her hands behind her back, sternly scolded,

"Medical skills are for saving lives, not for showing off."

She continued, "Moreover, challenges are illegal, and poison duels are criminal acts. Young man, which clinic are you from? I will punish you and revoke your license."

"You're too reckless to be a doctor. If I don't teach you a lesson today, you'll harm patients tomorrow."

Her words were flawless.

The pretty-faced doctor pointed across the way, saying, "They're from JZL Medical Hall, coming over here to provoke us."

"Investigate!" Violet tilted her head slightly, exuding an air of authority as if she were a queen.

Several companions took out their phones, ready to call for joint enforcement.

James smiled indifferently. "Can't accept losing?"

James' nonchalance provoked Violet.

Feeling her authority challenged, she sneered and stood in front of James, scolding, "You've already broken the law and have no right to speak."

"Moreover, who wins or loses is not up to you or them; it's up to me."

Violet raised her head arrogantly, clearly intending to suppress James.

James spoke calmly, "Aren't you afraid of being talked about for being so shameless?"

"Who dares to talk? I'll kill them!" Violet glanced at James with disdain, finding it ridiculous that a nobody would try to act tough with them.

Many onlookers were intimidated by her cold smile and stopped talking, even stepping back.

James laughed, "So you're going to bully people with your power?"

James' words didn't anger Violet; instead, she laughed coldly and said,

"Yes, I'm bullying you with my power. So what?"

She continued, "Let me tell you, you can't touch my dad's shop today, nor can you drive him out of Rosewood City. On the contrary, your clinic will be shut down, and your license revoked."

Violet looked at James with disdain. "Not convinced? Do something about it."

James fiddled with his phone, saying, "Impressive credentials."

Violet snorted contemptuously, "I'm the director of the 18th Division of the Medical Department."

"Not anymore."

A stern voice came from behind.

Violet's pretty face darkened. "Who says so?"

"Me, David! Any objections?"

'David?'

Hearing these words, the others instinctively turned to see a group of people escorting a wheelchair.

In the wheelchair sat a gaunt middle-aged man, his face pale as paper.

'David? Mr. Miller?'

Violet was initially stunned, almost scared out of her wits, and hurriedly rushed over, shouting, "Mr. Miller."

David slapped her away. "Kneel, then speak."

Violet's heart sank, knowing she was in big trouble. Ignoring the onlookers, she knelt down immediately.

Her companions also knelt beside her, not daring to make a sound.

David slapped her twice more, scolding harshly, "As a government official, not only do you fail to enforce the law impartially, but you also bully the people in public."

"Is this your attitude toward serving the people?"

"Do you know how many doctors and patients you've disheartened with your actions?"

"Kneel and reflect. Only when you've truly repented can you stand up."

Violet's pretty face burned, blood trickling from her mouth, but she didn't dare to retort, obediently kneeling.

As a director, she was far beneath David, who could crush her with a single word.

David ignored them and slowly approached James, his stern gaze softening instantly.

"James, I'm sorry for not managing my people well and causing you trouble."

This was the second time the Medical Department had troubled James, and David felt deeply apologetic.

James smiled and stepped forward, shaking David's hand, saying, "Mr. Miller, you're too kind. Every organization has its bad apples; it's normal."

James then asked, "By the way, how are you doing? What brings you here today?"

"I'm much better. I was bored in the hospital, so I came to chat with you and thank you for saving my life." David's expression was sincere. "Twice you've saved my life. I had to thank you in person."

Hearing that James had saved David's life, Violet and her companions felt despair, regretting their earlier arrogance towards James.

"Mr. Miller, you're too kind." James smiled. "It's my duty, and besides, you've helped me a lot too."

'Mr. Miller?'

Violet felt dizzy.

'This jerk not only saved David but was also on good terms with Scott. It was over, completely over.'

If David was angry, they might just lose their jobs.

If Scott had been angry, unless they had been completely innocent, there would had been no good outcome.

She began to resent Alexander. If he hadn't called her to help, she wouldn't be in this mess.

The pretty-faced female doctor and her colleagues were also in a daze, never expecting James to be connected to such prominent figures.

"Haha, we're all friends here, no need to be so formal."

David patted James on the shoulder and said, "From now on, just call me David."

James responded graciously, "Alright, I'll call you David from now on."

David was pleased, patting James' arm. Just as he was about to speak, a text message came through on his phone.

He glanced at it and then spoke softly to James, "James, I need your help with something."

James was taken aback. "David, please go ahead."

"Are you free this weekend? I'd like you to see my dad."

'David's dad?'

James was shocked.

Brandon, the elusive power behind the scenes in Rosewood City, was the highest-ranking official.
