Chapter 205 Break the Other Leg
James barely had a second to react before Richard yanked him into the brotherhood ceremony.
Just like that, they were sworn brothers.
James stared at the blood on his finger, totally baffled by Richard's sudden move.
He'd just come to check things out, and now he had an older brother?
"James, from now on, we're brothers for life," Richard said, giving James a solid pat on the shoulder. "We don't have to die on the same day, but we share our ups and downs. If you ever need anything, just holler. The eight thousand members of the Mystic Alliance got your back."
This meant James could now strut around Rosewood City with confidence.
Bruce and Riley were floored, still trying to wrap their heads around what just went down.
Over the years, countless folks, even big shots, had wanted to be sworn brothers with Richard, but he never gave them the time of day.
Today, Richard took the initiative to befriend James, leaving Riley and the others in shock.
James snapped out of his daze and gave a wry smile. "Mr. Davis—"
"Don't call me Mr. Davis; we're brothers now. I'm a few years older, so just call me Richard," Richard said seriously. "Unless you think you're too good for me."
James could only smile helplessly. "Richard, what did I do to deserve this?"
Richard cut him off. "Cut the crap. Do you want to be my brother or not?"
Richard's straightforwardness and generosity made James stop hesitating. "It's an honor to be your brother, Richard."
Richard's enthusiasm was hard to refuse, and it seemed like there was no downside.
"Hahaha, awesome!" Richard laughed heartily, then waved his hand. "Bruce, Riley, come over and greet James."
Riley dropped her arrogance and looked at James with a complex expression. "Greetings, Mr. Williams."
She almost regretted not recognizing him as her peer earlier. Now, she was a generation lower and couldn't tease him anymore.
Bruce also stepped forward. "Greetings, Mr. Williams."
James rubbed his head. "Bruce, just call me James."
Bruce shook his head. "That's not right. The Mystic Alliance values etiquette. You're Mr. Davis's brother; I can't be impolite."
James looked helpless.
"Mr. Williams, you said you could improve this set of fist skills?" Riley asked directly. "How do you plan to do that?"
Richard nodded with a smile. "Yeah, James, spill the beans. This martial art is fierce and has been the foundation of the Davis family for generations. It would be a shame to lose it. If it can be improved, even if it's not as powerful, it would still honor our ancestors."
His face showed a mix of regret and hope.
Bruce also looked at James eagerly.
"If this set of fist skills is to be improved, some moves need to be changed." James didn't waste words. He stepped forward, stood in the middle of the open space, and looked around. "Watch closely!"
With that, James moved, his momentum exploding.
He started from the beginning, performing the complete set.
His fists flew, shadows overlapping, and with each move, his momentum grew stronger.
The bamboo leaves on the ground gathered, forming two bamboo balls around his fists.
When James threw his final punch, a dull sound of force exploded like thunder.
The two bamboo balls instantly detached from his fists and struck the bamboo three feet away.
With two cracking sounds, the bamboo snapped.
"No way!" Riley and the others widened their eyes, unable to believe what they were seeing.
They never expected the modified martial art to be so fierce, nor did they expect the bamboo balls to break the bamboo.
This wasn't just a 60% power-up; it was more like a full-on 100% boost.
The best part? James's improved version wasn't rocket science; just watching it once was enough to get the hang of it.
Riley and Bruce gave it a shot.
They found that not only did the power skyrocket, but it was also super smooth, and after running through the whole set, they felt way more energized.
It was insanely powerful.
For the first time, Riley felt a bit of respect for James, thinking she had to introduce him to her grandpa someday.
If the Walkers could snag someone this talented, they might be able to outshine other families in the future.
Thinking about the potential respect they'd gain, Riley got all excited and determined to win over James.
"Good!" Richard couldn't stop clapping, totally stoked. "James, your tweaks are top-notch."
He didn't need to try it himself; just watching it once, he could feel how effective this set of fist skills was.
"On behalf of the entire Davis family and the Mystic Alliance, thank you."
He started to stand up to thank James.
"Richard, hold up. Your joints are messed up. Forcing yourself to stand could mess you up more. Sit down, and I'll give you some acupuncture."
James looked at Richard's legs and said, "In no more than ten minutes, your pain will vanish, and you won't need a wheelchair to get around."
After saying that, he stepped forward, took out nine silver needles, and started working on Richard.
"This old problem, left over from martial arts practice, can be fixed with a few needles?"
Riley's eyes showed disbelief. No meds, no injections, no fancy equipment—it seemed way too simple, right?
Richard also found it hard to believe.
But the next second, his expression changed.
Richard felt a surge of heat flow into his knees, then rush through his legs and body, like an army charging.
The blood clots were washed away, the damaged tendons were repaired, and the rampant inflammatory cells were completely eradicated.
Richard could feel the battle and the joy of victory.
When James inserted the last needle, Richard's legs suddenly hurt.
The wheelchair beneath him broke.
Richard reflexively stood up.
He made it!
Bruce and the others were all stunned.
Riley was also stunned, then full of joy. "Grandpa Richard, you can stand up?"
Richard had been in pain for two days, and in the morning, he could barely move his legs, let alone stand up.
"Yes, I can stand up, and I feel much better, my whole body is full of energy."
Richard looked radiant, as if reborn. He looked at his legs, then at James. "Your skills are miraculous."
Bruce and Riley were sincerely convinced. "Thank you for healing Grandpa."
"You're too kind." James quickly waved his hand. "It was just a small effort, no need to thank me."
"Dad."
At this moment, a sharp voice came from behind. James turned his head and saw Nathaniel with a cane, leading some people.
Seeing James, Nathaniel was startled, instinctively dodging, then excitedly shouted, "Dad, this is the bastard who bullied me, he's the one who made Uncle Bruce break my hand and leg. Help me kill him."
Nathaniel pointed at James and shouted, "James, you're finished."
In his shouting, he felt something was off. Why were Bruce and Riley both looking at him?
Richard slightly tilted his head toward Bruce. "Go, break his other leg too."
